[Apologies if you receive multiple copies] --------------------------------------------------------------------- GVP 2014 Call For Papers: 1st International Workshop on Graph Visualization in Practice August 1, 2014 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Co-located with Diagrams 2014 and VL/HCC 2014 in Melbourne, Australia GVP 2014: http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2014/workshops/ Diagrams 2014: http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2014/ VL/HCC 2014: https://sites.google.com/site/vlhcc2014/ The "Workshop on Graph Visualization in Practice: Challenges and Methods" is a forum to foster exchange and discussions among researchers in graph visualization and people from application areas that require graph visualization. The objective is to discuss challenges emerging from applications, recent advances in research, and how to facilitate the transfer of research results into practical applications. Graphs provide a versatile model for data from a large variety of application domains, including biology, finance, information security, telecommunication, software engineering, and social sciences. Graph visualization helps scientists and engineers to understand critical issues in these domains. However, the depth of understanding depends on the quality of the visualization and the interactive interface. Graph visualization techniques need to be intuitive for domain experts to facilitate exploration of networks within the experts' work flow. In particular, one has to take into account application semantics or user-defined constraints. In many areas, the application of graph visualization methods seems to lag behind the current state of the art in research by many years, whereas in others the most pressing challenges have not yet been addressed sufficiently by the research community. We invite researchers in the field of graph visualization and related areas as well as practitioners in fields of application both from academia and industry to submit papers. Papers should either describe substantial research in graph visualization concerned with application-driven requirements (long paper, 10 pages maximum) or ongoing research, experiences and challenges in application areas (short paper, 5 pages maximum). The scope of the workshop includes, but is not limited to: * graph drawing * interactive graph exploration * graph-based visual data analysis * evaluation of graph visualizations * graph visualization software * graph models and analysis All submissions should be in Springer's LNCS format. The proceedings will be published by CEUR. We plan to organise a special issue of a journal for extended versions of the best papers. --------------- Important Dates --------------- Abstract submission: May 17, 2014 Paper submission due: May 23, 2014 Notification of acceptance: June 13, 2014 Workshop: August 1, 2014 ----------------- Program Committee ----------------- Markus Chimani (Osnabrück University) Walter Didimo (University of Perugia) Yifan Hu (Yahoo Labs) Quang Vinh Nguyen (University of Western Sydney) Martin Nöllenburg (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) Carsten Gutwenger (Technical University Dortmund) ---------- Organizers ---------- Karsten Klein, The University of Sydney Steve Kieffer, Monash University Melbourne ------- CONTACT ------- If you have any questions, please contact the workshop organizers workshops@diagrams-conference.org
