******************************************************* PhD position (CIFRE contract with industry) : Visual Analytics for Multiplex Networks, Information Flows and Media Profiles http://www.labri.fr/perso/melancon - then follow « PhD position » ******************************************************* Where : 66% INA, 33% LaBRI, Université de Bordeaux INA, Avenue de l’Europe, Bry-sur-Marne (région parisienne) LaBRI, Université de Bordeaux, Campus de Talence, France Advisors : Marie-Luce Viaud, INA (mlviaud@ina.fr); Guy Melançon, LaBRI (Guy.Melancon@labri.fr) Keywords : visual analytics, information visualization, graph visualization, multiplex networks, data mining, information retrieval Contract : 3 years - Yearly gross salary 34000 euros Start : academic year 2014 (flexible) ------------------------------------------------------- Context : The PhD project takes place within the context of a collaboration between INA and LaBRI (potentially also AFP and Sciences Po). The project focuses on profiles for information flows, using visual analytics of multiplex networks to support modeling and simulation of flows. Multiplex networks are particularly good at modeling this context where citations and official information sources get mixed. These networks are multivariate and multilayers Combining numerous and distinct topologies into different layers where entities (nodes and edges) are equipped with several attributes (numerical, ordinal, semantic, etc.). The PhD project is an opportunity to extend standard approaches to multiplex networks in relation with the target application domain. It is also an opportunity to build visualizations combining different graphical representations of networks (coordinated multiple views as well as hybrid visualizations). ------------------------------------------------------- Interested candidates should contact the advisors. The project requires skills with visual analytics technologies supporting interactive graph visualization. The work requires a taste for algorithmics, but also for prototyping and user validation.
