Extended Deadline: Monday, Sept 29, 2014 --- Call for Participation The IEEE VGTC International Data-Visualization Contest Contest Theme: Visualization-Now I See It! http://vgtc.org/content/ieee-vgtc-international-data-visualization-contest DEADLINE: Monday, Sept 29, 2014 The IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee (VGTC)<http://vgtc.org/> is sponsoring its first International Data-Visualization Contest to recognize outstanding design in visualization and visual analytics from around the world. The 2014 contest theme is "Visualization-Now I See It!" The contest will be administrated by the IEEE Visualization Pioneers Group (VPG)<http://vgtc.org/content/ieee-vgtc-visualization-pioneers-group> under the auspices of IEEE VGTC. The award will be announced at the IEEE VPG Reception to be held at the IEEE VIS 2014<http://ieeevis.org/> conference. You are not required to attend either the VIS 2014 conference or the VPG reception to participate in the contest. Eligibility All visualization and visual analytics designers, developers, researchers, and practitioners from business, academia, and government sectors around the world are eligible to participate. Submissions cannot promote a commercial product. Submission Limitation Contestants may be lead author on no more than 3 submissions to the 2014 contest. They may be a co-author of any number of submissions. Submission Deadline Nomination packets must be received by 5pm PDT on Monday, September 1, 2014 to qualify for the 2014 contest. Selection Procedure All active IEEE VPG members<http://vgtc.org/content/vis-pioneers-group-vpg-members> who do not make a submission to the contest will be invited to participate in the first-round review. The top contest submissions from this first-round review will undergo a second round of reviews conducted by five distinguished IEEE VPG members representing different backgrounds, who will be chosen jointly by the VGTC and VPG chairs. The 5-member selection committee will thoroughly review and assess the top contest submissions based on communication effectiveness and design originality. The selection committee will submit their recommendation for best visualization to the IEEE VGTC chair by Monday, Oct 27, 2014. Monetary Award Along with a certificate, the winner of the IEEE/VGTC VIS Pioneers Group Best Data-Visualization Award will receive a check for $500 USD. Only one monetary award will be given in 2014. Submission Details The 2014 contest accepts only static visualizations in the form of an image. The contest participant should email the submission package to ieeevpg@googlegroups.com<mailto:ieeevpg@googlegroups.com>. The package will include: 1. A pdf file that contains: a. Title of the data-visualization contest submission b. Name, affiliation, email address, and postal address of the participant c. An up to 200 words description of the visualization written in English 2. A static visualization figure in jpg or png format. The size of the total submission package must be less than 10MB.
