CFP: ACM IUI 2015 Workshop on Visual Text Analytics
IUI Workshop on Interactive Visual Text Analytics http://textvis.org Full day workshop at ACM IUI 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA The primary goal of the workshop is to bridge the gap between machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, and natural language processing and fields such as human-computer interaction, information visualization, and visual analytics by bringing together researchers from both sides, allowing us to push the boundary of text analytics. In bringing together researchers from these fields, this workshop will enable participants to present their information, and engage in discussions. We invite submissions that address topics related to interactive visual analysis of text and linked data, streaming data, visual analysis of text data on mobile devices or other ubiquitous scenarios. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: User-adaptive approaches to visual text analytics Coupling of ML/AI systems with visualization for text analytics Visualization to improve ML/AI/NLP algorithms and models for text data Coordinated visualizations of textual and non-textual data Visual metaphors for textual data or ubiquitous text analytics Perception and cognition in visual text analytics Systems, languages, and architectures for visual textual analytics Collaborative analysis of textual and linked data Real-time visualization of streaming textual data Visual opinion analysis from textual data Visual event identification and prediction from textual data Uncertainty in interactive visual textual analytics Industry-specific applications of visual analysis of textual data (e.g. Retail, Healthcare, Government, etc.) Studies and evaluation of textual data visualization techniques, systems, metrics, and bench-marks Standardized datasets and tasks for visual text analytics We invite various kinds of papers such as (but not limited to): Novel research papers Demo papers Work-in-progress papers Visionary papers (white papers) Position papers Authors should clearly indicate the type of their submitted papers at the end of the abstract, to help reviewers better understand their contributions. ACM IUI 2015 is the 20th annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community and serves as a premier international forum for reporting outstanding research and development on intelligent user interfaces. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. A new faculty position opening at Northeastern University in information design and visualization: https://neu.peopleadmin.com/postings/32612 The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications and nominations for an open rank position, tenure-on-entry full or associate professor or tenure-track assistant professor, in information design and data visualization. We seek candidates with a substantial reputation and exceptional scholarship, in one or more areas within information design and data visualization, to join in growing a vibrant, innovative graduate program at Northeastern University in Boston. The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in visual design, creative coding, published scholarship and excellent teaching. Evidence is expected of significant accomplishments using current and emerging computational media and methods, to reveal, interpret, analyze and present complex issues, concepts, narratives and data. Special consideration will be given to candidates who apply their creative scholarship to enlightening public discourse, engaging civic action and improving urban experience. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research within the College of Arts, Media and Design and across Northeastern University, whose strong research faculty are active collaborators in network science, digital humanities, urban informatics, big data and experience design. Context: New faculty will help lead our newly created MFA in Information Design and Visualization and the MFA in interdisciplinary art. These degrees are built upon a well-established undergraduate studio and digital arts program with an emphasis on bringing innovative interactive art and design into the public sphere. We also offer a BFA and MFA in Studio Arts with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The Department of Art + Design has three distinct advantages. One, the faculty conducts courses of study in a strong diversity of practices: studio art and art history; graphic, information, interaction and experience design; digital arts, animation, photography, film, video, and interactive media. Two, we are located within a major private global research university and a leader in worldwide experiential learning, urban engagement and interdisciplinary research. Also, the College has a unique combination of disciplines, including Architecture, Art + Design, Game Design, Communication Studies, Journalism, Media and Screen Studies, Music, and Theatre. Three, we are in Boston, a thriving urban center of culture and innovation with extensive global connections. See: www.northeastern.edu/camd Qualifications Candidates must have an MFA, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in visual, graphic or information design, animation, interactive media, digital arts, or closely related fields. Candidates are expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and must have a well-developed research agenda that will inform and advance current trends in the field through creative production, experimentation, collaboration, exhibition and publication. Evidence of a high level of skill and accomplishment across media, provocative meaning making, and a sophisticated aesthetic sensibility are expected.
