CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS) is the premier academic venue for research in the design, development, and use of new and emerging interactive surface technologies and interactive spaces. This years conference will take place 27-30 October 2024 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Visual methods have become increasingly vital in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research, particularly as we analyze and interpret the complex visual data that emerges from various interaction modalities. However, the methodologies for analyzing this visual data remain underdeveloped compared to textual data analysis. This workshop seeks to unite HCI researchers who work with visual data—such as hand sketches, photographs, physical artifacts, UI screenshots, videos, and information visualizations—to establish a collection of methods, exchange strategies, and delve into the challenges and opportunities of visual data analysis in HCI. Topics We invite contributions on a wide range of topics related to visual data analysis in HCI, including but not limited to: Challenges and opportunities in visual data analysis methods within HCI. Methodologies for coding and analyzing visual data. Reflections on visual data analysis practices in HCI and visualization research. Innovations in tools and systems that support qualitative coding of visual data. *Combining qualitative and quantitative methods for rich insights from visual materials. Epistemological reflections on the use of visual methods in research. Submission Guidelines We welcome submissions of papers (1-3 pages) that explore various aspects of visual data analysis, including reflections on current research, discussions of methodological challenges, and future ideas for visual methods. Submissions can be in the form of traditional papers or pictorials that visually represent the analytical process. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process. Accepted papers will be shared among participants prior to the workshop to foster discussion and collaboration.
