The Department of Computer Science at University of Illinois—Chicago (UIC) seeks a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the areas of visualization and human-computer interaction to work on a DARPA-funded project under the direction of Dr. Angus Forbes. The project will be carried out within the Electronic Visualization Laboratory and involves researching and developing information visualization systems for representing and interacting with biological networks across multiple layers of abstraction. Funding is available for up to three years; the appointment will begin in Fall 2014 or shortly thereafter. Applicants should have a PhD in computer science or a closely related discipline. Ideally, applicants will have strong experience in designing and evaluating visualization systems. Experience with (or interest in learning) the following technologies and/or areas is desired: network visualization, visual analytics, biological visualization, SBML and SBGN, and immersive systems. The Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) is an extraordinarily collaborative place, especially for work in visualization and immersive environments. EVL, established in 1973, represents the oldest formal collaboration between engineering and art in the country, specializing in the design and development of visualization, virtual reality and collaboration systems utilizing high-performance networks. UIC ranks among the nation’s top 50 universities in federal research funding and is ranked the fourth best U.S. university under 50 years old by Times Higher Education.
