Dear colleagues, The ADVANSE team at LIRMM / University of Montpellier (France) is pleased to announce an opening for a postdoc position (20 months) in Machine Learning and Visual Analytics, focusing on adaptation of cities to climate change. ===Project description=== The adaptation of cities to climate change is an urgency that local authorities must address. To support their efforts, a better knowledge of the climatic specificities of the built environments but also of the climatic experience of city dwellers is necessary. To this end, the French ANR Project PICOPATT (Urban PICOclimatic PATTerns), in collaboration with the CRENAU Team (AAU), introduces the notion of urban picoclimate and proposes to study this notion from a scientific and operational perspective. This project aims at producing a methodology for the analysis of urban picoclimatic conditions based on mobile metrology, machine learning and visualization, deducing picoclimatic patterns in different urban fabrics from the collected data and to test them against the perceptions and uses of city dwellers to establish a typology of urban picoclimates and transforming this knowledge into operational tools for promoting the adaptation of cities to climate change by the development of existing conditions and anticipation through urban projects. The postdoc will contribute to one or more sub-projects. ===Profile=== PhD in computer science, machine learning and visualization, with good programming skills (ideally Python and/or web technologies). Previous experience with geographical data time series is a plus, as well as familiarity with data science and/or visualization modern libraries (scikit-learn, Pytorch, D3.js…). Depending on the project, you will be responsible for producing new methodologies, experimenting them, and disseminating the results at conferences and in journal articles. The language of the lab is French or English. French is not required. ===Work place and environment=== The Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics and Microelectronics of Montpellier (LIRMM) is a major multi-disciplinary French research center located in the South of France. It is affiliated with the University of Montpellier and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The research activities carried out by the ADVANSE team (ADVanced Analytics for data SciencE) are in the field of the analysis of large databases in order to extract new knowledge. They relate to the following three areas: Data mining, Visual Analytics and Machine learning. The ADVANSE team, in its three axes, is developing work on both theoretical and experimental bases to address the associated issues. The postdoctoral fellow will participate to the collaboration with the AAU laboratory and will also carry out assignments in Nantes to work directly with the experts. ===Duration and dates=== 20 months. Full time.
