ARDA Geospatial Intelligence Information Visualization Program
Dr. John D. Prange (ARDA) and Jon Dale (NIMA)

Date: Monday, October 20, 2003
Time: 5:30
Location: TBA

ARDA (Advanced Research and Development Activity) of the Intelligence Community established the Geospatial Intelligence Information Visualization Program (GI3Vis) to foster research & development in information visualization relevant to the work of the Intelligence Community. ARDA envisions GI2Vis as a three-phased program with each phase having a two-year duration and treated as a separate solicitation. Phase II is in its second (and last) year while Phase III is in its planning stage.

Areas of interest of GI2Vis Phase II are:

  • Integration & representation of disparate & large information sources
  • Maximizing visualization effectiveness and facilitating visualization use
  • Visualization of tacit knowledge

This talk will include an overview of the GI2Vis R&D Program, its challenges to the information visualization community highlighting currently funded projects that are addressing these challenges. The speakers and the InfoVis audience will then discuss and deliberate the new set of requirements for Phase III of GI2Vis plus solicit and discuss any additional ideas that the InfoVis researchers and developers might suggest.
