Research Scientist Position:

  IBM T.J. Watson Research Center is looking for research scientists with interest in the field of data visualization and visual analytics, to design next-generation user interfaces for making sense of big data, particularly in the healthcare domain. The Research Scientist will be working alongside visualization, machine learning, and medical researchers performing cutting-edge research in data-driven medicine.
The ideal candidate should possess or be nearing completion of a doctorate in computer science or related field with a track record in interactive data visualization and visual analytics research, demonstrated with publications at premier venues, including IEEE InfoVis, IEEE VAST, ACM CHI, and ACM UIST. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong technical skills who can generate highly novel ideas and execute them rapidly.
  The researcher is expected to contribute significantly to the team in developing new visualizations, leveraging big data from longitudinal electronic medical records, patient-controlled devices, and genomic data. S/he should also have strong system design and development skills and should be able to deploy software services individually and as part of an extended team. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team across multiple geographies is a must. The researcher is also expected to disseminate, externally and internally, the results of such activities through publications and seminars, and represent IBM at conferences and universities.


Research Software Engineer Position:

IBM Research is seeking Software Engineers to work on next-generation user interfaces for making sense of big data, particularly in the healthcare domain. This position is based at IBM's Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. The software engineer will be working alongside visualization and machine learning researchers performing cutting-edge research in data-driven medicine.
Candidates should have an established record of building systems with one or more of the following attributes:
	• Full stack development of interactive web applications
	• Experience with distributed storage and processing of big data
	• Appreciation and taste for user experience and visual design.
Candidates should have proven abilities to generate new ideas, develop novel conceptual models and architectures, and validate them with working prototypes and experiments. In addition to technical skills and experience, candidates are expected to:
	• Embrace challenge and be passionate about solving hard problems
	• Have excellent communication skills
	• Collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams
Candidates with a Master's degree in Computer Science or related area are preferred.
