- ISS 2019 Conference: 10-13 November 2019

ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ACM ISS 2019) (https://iss.acm.org/2019),
being held in Daejeon, South Korea this year, is the premier venue for
research in the design, development, and use of new and emerging
interactive surface technologies and interactive spaces.

ACM ISS 2019 welcomes original, high-quality research and industry
contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the area of interactive
surfaces, interactive spaces and novel interface technologies. Beyond the
traditional scope of the conference – i.e., interactive tabletops, large
displays, multi-display systems, mobile and mini devices – we also
encourage contributions focused on the use of space and technology around
us to bridge the gap between our digital and everyday lives, such as
interactive 3D spaces, on-body sensors, interactive art or interactive
architecture. We also encourage contributions focused on understanding
individual and group needs related to interactive surfaces and interactive
spaces, and the impact on individuals and groups of these technologies. We
embrace innovations in a wide variety of areas including design, software,
hardware, understanding of use, and applications or deployments of such
interactive systems.

*Topic Areas*

The conference welcomes contributions on a wide range of topics relating to
interactive surfaces and spaces as well as novel interface technologies,
including (but not limited to):

- Real-world applications of interactive surfaces and/or spaces in specific
domains (public spaces, education, science, business, entertainment,
health, art, homes, etc.)

- Large display interfaces and multi-display environments

- Gesture-based interfaces (hands, finger, body)

- Multi-modal interfaces

- Tangible user interfaces

- Novel interaction techniques and paradigms

- Interaction with mobile and body-worn devices

- Non-traditional interactive surfaces such as curved, sand, and water
interfaces

- Interactive 3D spaces (Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality, mid-air
displays, ...)

- Large scale and outdoor interactive spaces (projected interfaces, drones,
...)

- Interactive architecture

- Beyond traditional surfaces: shape-changing and actuated surfaces,
body-related...

- Information visualization / data presentation with interactive surfaces
and spaces

- Software engineering methods and frameworks

- Social aspects and protocols related to interacting with surfaces and
spaces

- Interactive surfaces and spaces that support group work or social
interaction

- Hardware, including sensing and input technologies with novel
capabilities, and results from maker communities

- Human-centered design and methodologies related to interactive surfaces
and spaces

- Empirical evaluations of novel interactive surfaces and/or spaces designs

- Evaluations of deployed interactive surfaces and/or spaces in specific
domains (public spaces, education, science, business, entertainment,
health, art, homes, etc.)

*ACM ISS 2019 CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: POSTERS*

https://iss.acm.org/2019/authors/posters/

*Important Dates*
- July 31, 2019: Deadline for submissions
- August 23, 2019: Author Notifications
- August 30, 2019: Deadline for invited submissions from paper/note track
- September 8, 2019: Camera-Ready Deadline

*General Information*
We invite submissions to the poster category of ISS 2019.

The ISS 2019 poster program offers an engaging venue to present and discuss
new and developing research. Posters provide the opportunity for
researchers to get feedback on early-stage work and work-in-progress, to
establish potential collaborations and to discuss the burning issues in ISS
2019 in an informal manner with the larger community during the interactive
poster session.

Work that is best suited for a poster submission includes - but is not
limited to - preliminary results, thought-provoking and current topics,
novel experiences and/or prototypes that have not been fully tested but
show great promise, summaries of small-scale studies, design-led
explorations of interactive tabletops, surfaces and spaces.

A poster submission will allow you to:

- Have a poster displayed during the posters & demos reception at the ISS
2019 conference and get feedback from the conference attendees (there will
also be a Best Poster Award at the conference).
- Publish an extended abstract of the poster in the electronic conference
proceedings in the ACM Digital Library. Publish an optional video of up to
3 minutes long in electronic conference proceedings in the ACM Digital
Library.
- Introduce your poster alongside other authors in a plenary fast-forward
madness session at the conference (30 seconds presentation).

*ACM ISS 2019 CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: DEMOS*

https://iss.acm.org/2019/authors/demos/

*Important Dates*
- Deadline for submissions: July 31
- Author Notifications: August 23
- Author Notifications (papers): August 23
- Deadline for invited submissions from paper/note track: August 30
- Camera-Ready Deadline: September 8

*General Information*
The ISS demo session provides a great opportunity for authors to present
their prototypes, products and applications to conference attendees. We
will provide a large area in which you will be able to showcase your best
interactive experiences and commercial products. Our goal is to provide a
highly interactive forum for lively discussions and hands-on experiences.

What are we looking for?
Creative and innovative technologies and applications in interactive
surfaces and spaces, including displays, input and sensing technologies,
interaction techniques, shape-changing devices, computer vision
applications, audio – speech interfaces, wearable devices, visualization
techniques, interfaces for public spaces and more. Also demos from industry
(i.e. commercial applications and products) are highly encouraged.

What are the benefits?
You will get the opportunity to present your exciting projects and ideas to
experts from both academia and industry during the conference. Your
submission will be published and indexed as an extended abstract in the ACM
digital library.

How we will evaluate?
Demo abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the demo chairs.
Confidentiality of submissions is maintained during the review process. All
rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted
materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the
start of the conference. Abstracts of invited demos from paper/note track
will not be reviewed. We will focus on interactive and exciting demos. We
want to showcase interactive technologies from all over the world and
create a highly exciting event. We thus encourage resubmission of existing
and exciting demos.
