MLVis 2020: Machine Learning Methods in Visualisation - Call For Papers https://www.tuni.fi/mlvis2020/ MLVis 2020 will be a co-located workshop at EGEV2020 - Eurographics & EuroVis 2020 in Norrköping, Sweden. It aims to bring Machine Learning and Visualization researchers together in order to exchange research ideas. We solicit short papers on machine learning methods in visualisation, from both the machine learning and visualisation communities, addressing how the two technologies can be used together to provide greater insight to end users. Paper submissions for MLVis should be at most 4 pages in MLVis 2020 latex style (provided on the website), with an additional page allowed for references. Papers are to be submitted via the PCS system, link on the website. Proceedings will be published by the Eurographics Association, and be stored on the Eurographics Digital Library. Selected papers may be invited to special issues, either in the Information Visualization journal or ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems. This is an ideal possibility for a just-finished PhD student or a postdoc seeking short term employment as the project can include a significant amount of research in data visualization literacy, data literacy, and teaching visualization (for professionals). The group has access to the latest immersive tech <http://edinburghvishub.github.io/> (VR, MR, touch screens and tables, 3D printing and cutting, fab lab etc) and is about to plan its own lab space. Visual+Interactive Data is highly engaged in co-organizing Edinburgh’s monthly Data Vis meetup (over 700 members) and collaborates across Schools and outside the University involving: NHS, the Scottish Government statistics division, the City council, Visa, etc. In the Centre for Design Informatics https://www.designinformatics.org <https://www.designinformatics.org/>, we design systems for better human-data interaction, in diverse settings such as health, culture, mobility and finance. * Application deadline: February 7, 2020 * The Cluster of Excellence EXC 2120 on "Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture" (IntCDC) at the University of Stuttgart invites applications for the position of a *** Independent Junior Research Group Leader in Computer Science for the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC (f/m/d) *** EXC 2120 was newly established in 2019, with an initial funding period of seven years. A Cluster of Excellence is the most significant and substantial grant funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). For the first time, a Cluster of Excellence has been awarded to the field of architecture, bringing together a world-leading interdisciplinary team of researchers from seven faculties of the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. To complement our research activities, we are seeking a highly motivated young scientist with an outstanding early-career track record and substantial international research experience in fields related to the aims of the cluster. A successful candidate should have a PhD degree in computer science or a similar area, and profound experience in one or more of the following or related topics: * Human-computer interaction or human-robot interaction, in particular, for digital fabrication * Augmented reality and mixed reality, especially, in the context of engineering domains * Visualization and visual analytics, machine learning for visual data science * Computer vision or robot perception * Computational approaches for architecture and the building industry A successful candidate will combine above computer science research with the application-oriented research on methods that support digitization in architecture and the building industry. This research-focused position will lead a new Independent Junior Research Group within Research Unit IV (Computer Science and Robotics) of the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC. The establishment of a competitive research program is expected. The Research Group is expected to collaborate actively with the IntCDC partners at the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. The Research Group is funded for up to three years, including the Group Leader position (TV-L E14), funds for PhD projects, as well as startup and annual budgets.
