Call for Contributions EXTENDED DEADLINE: September 17th Computers & Graphics - Special Issue on Visual Analytics - vol. 31, no. 3, June 2007 Visual Analytics has become an increasingly important topic on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. The integration of data mining technology and information visualization is evolving into a foundation for dealing with the rapidly growing amounts of data in very different areas. All scenarios share the basic idea to support the capabilities of the human mind by computer systems, which extract and compile information from heterogeneous sources and present them in an appropriate way to the user. At the technological level, achievements in visualization, data processing and analysis from the last two decades have to be integrated into this emerging field of research. The International Journal "Computers & Graphics" has decided to dedicate a special issue to Visual Analytics. Contributions to this issue describing original research are solicited that contribute to the technical challenges posed by Visual Analytics. Thus, topics of interest - within the area of Visual Analytics - include, but are not limited to: - Visual representations and new visual paradigms - Integration with automated analysis, databases, statistics, design, perception, etc. - Knowledge representation and semantics - Data streams, data compression & feature extraction - Scalability in problem size - Data quality and uncertainty - Data provenance - Problem solving, decision science, human analytic discourse - Evaluation methods - User acceptability - Synthesis of problems in applications Papers for this special issue will be chosen from the submissions based on their quality and originality. Papers published previously in conferences should contain significant new material, while including the previous version with the submission. ============================================ Call for Papers Asia Pacific Symposium on Visualisation 5-7 February, 2007 Sydney, Australia http://www.cs.usyd.edu.au/~visual/apvis2007/ ============================================ APVIS2007 is the sixth annual international symposium to be held in the Asia-Pacific region with the objective to foster greater exchange between visualisation researchers and practitioners. Authors are invited to submit papers describing original and unpublished research and practical applications in all areas of visualisation. The scope of previous APVIS meetings was limited to graph drawing and information visualisation. From this year, APVIS has been expanded to include scientific visualisation. We anticipate an exciting technical program. * Scope Suggested topics for papers include, but are not limited to: - Theoretic foundations of visualisation - Usability and human-factors - Visual models and representations - Visual knowledge discovery - Visual data mining - Visual analytics - Interaction techniques - Scientific visualisation - Information visualisation - Graph drawing algorithms - Visualisation of large data sets - Visualisation of time-varying data - Visualisation in bioinformatics - Visualisation in social network analysis - Software visualisation - Case studies - Real-world systems * Invited Speaker The keynote address will be given by Jim Thomas, Director of the National Visualization and Analytics Center and Fellow of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA. * Important Dates Submission of draft papers 11 September, 2006 Notification of acceptance 3 November, 2006 Submission of camera-ready papers 17 November, 2006 Symposium 5-7 February, 2007 * Submission and Publication Submitted papers should be at most 8 pages in length and conform to the formatting conventions of VGTC/IEEE (see http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Tasks/camera.html for details and templates). All papers are to be submitted electronically in PDF format to http://www.cs.usyd.edu.au/~visual/ConfMan/REG-paper/ Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and the accepted submissions will be included in the official proceedings of the symposium, which will be printed by VGTC/IEEE. At least one author of each accepted paper must register to attend APVIS2007 and present the paper. Simultaneous submission to other conferences with published proceedings is not allowed.
