================================================================= Eurographics 3D Object Retrieval (3DOR) Workshop: Submission deadline extended to 16 February 2018. Please visit https://3dor2018.sites.uu.nl/ ================================================================= Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. Also, a new wave of information is underway: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modeling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. Indeed, traditional information access techniques have been shown inadequate to deal with 3D content. Therefore, it is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search, and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community. The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction who work on or are interested in 3D object retrieval search and exploration, to present state-of-the-art work in the field or learn about it and participate in discussions. This will provide a cross-fertilization that will stimulate discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2018 will be the 11th workshop in this series. 3DOR 2018 will be a 2-day event and will contain the following tracks: research paper presentations, posters, keynote speeches and EU project presentations and networking. The 3DOR Workshop proceedings are indexed by SCOPUS. Extended versions of the full papers will be submitted for a special issue of Computers and Graphics published by Elsevier (pending for confirmation). 3DOR is co-located with Eurographics 2018. The 2018 CRA-W/CDC CADENS two-day Discipline Specific Workshop aims to broaden participation of women and members of underrepresented groups in the field of data visualization. The two-day workshop will include demos, a poster presentation by participants, panel presentation by visualization professionals, keynote speakers, networking, mentoring activities and scholarly exchange of ideas. The workshop, co-located at Purdue University and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and scheduled for June 13-14, 2018, will include a trip to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Limited travel awards are available. For full consideration for travel awards, applications must be received by 5:00 PM (EST), Friday, February 16, 2018. We are regrettably restricted to reimbursing/providing travel support to only U.S. Citizens. We recognize this is a serious constraint, but it is a federal regulation on the funding. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, or software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 20 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. GD 2018 will take place September 26-28, 2018 at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. PAPERS ------------ We invite authors to submit papers describing original research of theoretical or practical significance to graph drawing and network visualization. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of two distinct tracks. Papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. All papers in all tracks will undergo single-blind reviewing. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects --------------------------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): * Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms * Geometric graph theory * Geometric computing * Planarity and topological graph theory * Optimization on graphs Track 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as the development of network visualization systems and interfaces in different application areas. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): * Visualization of graphs and networks in real world applications, including big data * Engineering of network visualization algorithms and systems * Experimental results in graph theory and algorithms * Benchmarks and experimental studies of network visualization systems and user interfaces * Cognitive studies on graph drawing readability and user interaction * Interfaces and methods for interacting with graphs Authors of applied papers will have the opportunity to show a demo of their software/system during the poster session. Short papers ----------------- In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers, describing theoretical or applied contributions of shorter length. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. Submission format ------------------------- All submissions must be formatted using the LaTeX style file for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty or mathptmx.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. The length of regular papers is limited to 12 pages (excluding references), while the length of short papers is limited to 6 pages (excluding references). The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. If this information does not fit within the page limits, the authors should include it in a clearly marked appendix, whose length is not constrained and which the reviewers may read at their own discretion. Authors must submit the complete paper (including the appendix) by the deadline. Minor updates will be allowed for 2 days following the deadline. All submissions will be handled through EasyChair at the web site https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=gd18 POSTERS -------------- Submissions of posters on graph drawing, network visualization, and related areas are solicited. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to 2 pages in the LNCS style) that must be submitted together with the poster itself. CONTEST -------------- Details about the traditional Graph Drawing Contest held at the conference are provided on the conference web site at http://graphdrawing.de/contest2018/contest.html PUBLICATION -------------------- All accepted papers (including the two-page poster abstracts) will appear in the conference proceedings, published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. Twelve pages (excluding references) will be allocated for regular papers and six pages (excluding references) for short papers. The copyright to these proceedings will be held by Springer. The LNCS proceedings will be made freely accessible to the GD community upon publication and openly accessible to anyone after four years. Authors will be required to submit their accepted papers to the arXiv repository, in order to provide immediate and unrestricted open access to them. The self-archived arXiv papers shall consist of the LNCS proceedings version (identical, except for possibly changed references to the appendix resp. the arXiv version) plus an optional clearly marked appendix. This appendix could contain a long version of the entire paper or proofs that have been omitted from the main text. Subsequent submissions of different versions of the paper to the arXiv (known as arXiv ``replacements'') are allowed. Upon submission of the camera-ready version of an accepted paper, the authors will be required to specify the arXiv identifier associated with the paper for inclusion in a conference index, which will be also published in the arXiv repository. Failure to comply with these guidelines will impede the publication of the paper. Each paper or poster must be presented at the conference by an author (barring unforeseen circumstances), otherwise the paper/poster will not be included in the proceedings. Should any visa restriction prevent an author from attending the conference and presenting a paper, he/she will be given ways to participate and give the talk via electronic means. Selected papers from both tracks will be invited for submission to a special issue of the Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications (JGAA). The authors of the best paper in Track 2 will be invited to submit a substantially extended and enhanced version of their work to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). **************************************************************************** Final Call for Submissions: Graduate Symposium Diagrams 2018 10th International Conference on the Theory and Application of Diagrams http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2018/ Conference dates: 18th - 22nd June 2018 Location: Edinburgh, UK Co-located event: International Conference on Conceptual Structures 2018 http://blogs.napier.ac.uk/iccs/ **************************************************************************** Diagrams 2018 is the tenth conference in the biennial series that started in 2000, which provides a united forum for all areas concerned with the study of diagrams. The goal of the Diagrams 2018 Graduate Symposium is twofold. Firstly, the Symposium will provide senior graduate students and recent Masters and Doctoral graduates with the opportunity to present their research. Established researchers will provide feedback and comments on each of the presentations. Secondly, the Symposium will provide students with an opportunity to network with each other as future colleagues. In previous Diagrams Graduate Symposiums, lively and useful discussions have enabled students to receive suggestions about their on-going research and allowed more experienced participants to hear some fresh ideas and view some of the new trends in the field. Participants will be selected for the Graduate Symposium based on the submission of a 3-page report describing their research (see the Submission section). Submissions will be peer reviewed. Summaries of accepted submissions will be available online on the conference website (as an example, see Diagrams 2016 Graduate Symposium proceedings: http://www. diagrams-conference.org/2016/gradsymp.html) **************************************************************************** Submission Submissions that focus on any aspect of diagrams research are welcome. Topics of interest are the same as those given in the calls for papers for the three conference tracks: http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2018/home/cfp/. Students who wish to present their work at the symposium must submit a 3-page report describing - the thesis topic, - the approach being taken, - the work that has been completed, - the expected contributions of the research, and - aspects of the work on which advice is desired. The report must be submitted in Springer LNCS format via the EasyChair system by 31st January 2018 https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=diagrams2018 The submission should be prepared following the LNCS style guidelines, http://www.springer.com/lncs, and each student can only submit one report. **************************************************************************** Participation Expectations Graduate students whose Graduate Symposium submission is accepted are expected to participate in the Graduate Symposium as follows. Students who are not giving a presentation of a long or short paper, or an abstract, in the main conference will be expected to give a presentation at the Symposium and present a poster in the main conference. Students who are presenting a long or short paper, or an abstract, in the main conference, including either of the special tracks, will be expected to attend the Symposium and present a poster in the main conference. Students who are presenting a poster at the main conference, including either of the special tracks, will be expected to give a presentation at the Symposium. They do not need to prepare an additional poster for the main conference. All students who receive student funding from Diagrams 2018 will be required to attend the Graduate Symposium. **************************************************************************** Supervisor Support Students who submit to the graduate symposium must ask their main or lead supervisor to submit a short supporting statement, by email to Andrew Blake, a.l.blake(a)brighton.ac.uk. The supporting statement should confirm that the supervisor supports the student’s participation in the symposium and briefly explain why the student will benefit. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their supervisor submits the supporting statement. **************************************************************************** Financial Support The organisers may be able to provide financial support for students attending the conference. If support is available then those eligible to apply for are expected to include: - students whose Graduate Symposium submission is accepted, - students presenting a paper, abstract or poster at the main conference who submit a Graduate Symposium report by the symposium submission deadline. Support is expected to range from free registration to additional travel support.
