EuroVis 2021 Call for Papers With this call for papers, we invite submission of high-quality papers that will set the standard astimulate future trends in the field of visualization and visual analytics. Accepted full papers will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the Eurographics Association, after a two-stage peer-reviewing process. All accepted papers will be presented orally at the conference. EuroVis 2021 (https://www.eurovis.org/) will be held in Zürich, Switzerland on June 14-16, 2021. We encourage submissions from all areas of visualization and visual analytics. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: * Techniques: novel algorithms, visual encoding methods, and/or interaction techniques for data analysis, exploration, or communication. All sub-areas of data visualization and visual analytics are welcomed, including high-dimensional, time-series, spatial, geographic, text, hierarchical, and network data. Techniques may be specialized for specific devices or form-factors (e.g., mobile or wall-scale visualization). * Systems: new software frameworks, languages, or tools for visualization; systems for large-scale visualization; integrated graphical systems for visual analysis or interactive machine learning; collaborative and web-scale visualization systems. * Applications & Design Studies: novel use of visualization to address problems in an application domain, including accounts of innovative system design, deployment and impact. We welcome diverse application areas, including the physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts, sports, and humanities. * Evaluation & Empirical Research: Comparative evaluation of competing visualization approaches; controlled experiments to inform visualization best practices; longitudinal and qualitative studies to understand user needs, visualization adoption, and use. * Theory: models of visual encoding, interaction, and/or analysis tasks; implications from theories of perception, cognition, design, and/or aesthetics; methods for automated design or visualization recommendation. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS The maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track is 10 pages (in Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) style, including all images, but excluding references). Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra content. Papers exceeding the maximum allowed number of pages will be automatically rejected. Submissions must be made using the Computer Graphics Forum style, using the conference LaTeX template for full papers. A LaTeX style sheet and overleaf template will be provided as well as a sample document explaining the required format. Authors have the option to submit their papers anonymously. In contrast to previous years, double-blind reviewing is optional, not required: authors may choose to disclose their identities to the reviewers. The reviewing process does not consider anonymity as a factor. The process will attempt to preserve anonymity of authors of anonymized submissions. However, the program committee, which is responsible for half of the reviews, will know the authors of submissions reviewed by them. Authors have the option of submitting additional material with their submissions. Supplementary materials, such as videos and supporting data, are encouraged. For papers that have previously been reviewed for other venues and have been rejected or withdrawn, the authors are strongly encouraged to provide the original submission with a cover letter describing the changes they have made to comply with reviewers' comments and requests. All full papers accepted to EuroVis appear in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, containing the conference proceedings, and will appear at the same time in the Eurographics digital library. The goal of the tutorials is to provide a venue for presenting research on focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges. Tutorials are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and experience on topics related to intelligent user interfaces, and the intersection between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Note: We encourage you to contact the chairs with your ideas (emails above), and work together to prepare an exciting proposal. We encourage proposals for a wide range of tutorials, including but not limited to: - "Hands-on" or "project-centric" tutorials around a specific problem or topic. - Tutorials on a specific topic relevant to IUI; for example, methods and approaches in HCI and/or AI, specific techniques or algorithms to develop intelligent user interfaces, etc. Tutorials will be held on the first day of the conference. Provide a brief description of the background of the organiser(s). The aim of ETRA is to bring together researchers and practitioners from across fields with the common goal of continuing to move eye tracking research forward. The symposium presents advances and innovations in oculomotor research, gaze tracking systems, eye tracking applications, gaze-based interaction, and eye movement data analysis. We invite full and short papers in all areas of eye tracking research and applications, and welcome submissions from all domains, including visuomotor neuroscience, perception, cognition, and visualization. Invitation to Attend: Machine Learning from User Interactions (MLUI) 2020 at IEEE VIS

This year, the third instance of the MLUI workshop will kick off the IEEE VIS conference on Sunday morning from 8:00-11:30 MDT. Attendance to the workshop is open to everyone and free with the accompanying registration for IEEE VIS (http://ieeevis.org) This year, we have two excellent keynote speakers to begin each session. In the first session, Michael Sedlmair will present "Machine Learning meets Visualization," discussing how the two fields can work together for mutual benefit. In the second session, Alvitta Ottley will present "Using Models and Predictions to Help Humans and Computers Click," discussing the current state and future of research in user modeling for data visualization. Each session will also contain shorter research talks, as well as some dedicated time for discussion. We briefly discuss these categories below. Although your main paper type has to be specified during the paper submission process, papers can include elements of more than one of these categories. Please see “Process and Pitfalls in Writing Information Visualization Research Papers” by Tamara Munzner for a more detailed discussion. *Technique papers* introduce novel techniques or algorithms that have not previously appeared in the literature, or that significantly extend known techniques or algorithms, for example, by scaling to datasets of much larger size than before or by generalizing a technique to a larger class of uses. The technique or algorithm description provided in the paper should be complete enough that a competent graduate student in visualization could implement the work, and the authors should create a prototype implementation of the methods. Relevant previous work must be referenced, and the advantage of the new methods over it should be clearly demonstrated. There should be a discussion of the tasks and datasets for which this new method is appropriate, and its limitations. Evaluation through informal or formal user studies, or other methods, will often serve to strengthen the paper, but are not mandatory. *System papers* present a blend of algorithms, technical requirements, user requirements, and design that solves a major problem. The system that is described is both novel and important, and has been implemented. The rationale for significant design decisions is provided, and the system is compared to documented, best-of-breed systems already in use. The comparison includes a specific discussion of how the described system differs from and is, in some significant respects, superior to those systems. For example, the described system may offer substantial advancements in the performance or usability of visualization systems or novel capabilities. Every effort should be made to eliminate external factors (such as advances in processor performance, memory sizes, or operating system features) that would affect this comparison. *Application/design study papers* explore the choices made when applying visualization and visual analytics techniques in an application area, for example relating the visual encodings and interaction techniques to the requirements of the target task. Similarly, application/design study papers have been the norm when researchers describe the use of visualization techniques to glean insights from problems in engineering and science. Although a significant amount of application domain background information can be useful to provide a framing context in which to discuss the specifics of the target task, the primary focus of the case study must be the visualization content. The results of the application/design study, including insights generated in the application domain, should be clearly conveyed. Describing new techniques and algorithms developed to solve the target problem will strengthen a design study paper, but the requirements for novelty are less stringent than in a technique paper. Where necessary, the identification of the underlying parametric space and its efficient search must be aptly described. The work will be judged by the design lessons learned or insights gleaned, on which future contributors can build. We invite submissions on any application area. *Evaluation papers* explore the usage of visualization and visual analytics by human users, and typically present an empirical study of visualization techniques or systems. Authors are not necessarily expected to implement the systems used in these studies themselves; the research contribution will be judged on the validity and importance of the experimental results as opposed to the novelty of the systems or techniques under study. The conference committee appreciates the difficulty and importance of designing and performing rigorous experiments, including the definition of appropriate hypotheses, tasks, data sets, selection of subjects, measurement, validation, and conclusions. The goal of such efforts should be to move from mere description of experiments, toward prediction and explanation. We do suggest that potential authors who have not had formal training in the design of experiments involving human subjects may wish to partner with a colleague from an area such as psychology or human-computer interaction who has experience with designing rigorous experimental protocols and statistical analysis of the resulting data. Other novel forms of evaluation are also encouraged. *Theory/model papers* present new interpretations of the foundational theory of visualization and visual analytics. Implementations are usually not relevant for papers in this category. Papers should focus on basic advancement in our understanding of how visualization techniques complement and exploit properties of human vision and cognition. Dear all, My lab at Harvard Medical School has openings for multiple postdoctoral fellows in visualization of biomedical data. This project is highly interdisciplinary and being conducted in close cooperation with clinical experts, providing an excellent opportunity for collaborative research.
