The primary objective of the annual workshop is to bring together medical experts, leading scientists, and visionaries to discuss visualization techniques that can be applied to healthcare data and discuss the areas of healthcare that need more attention from the visualization and visual data mining communities. The workshop will allow participants to showcase their ongoing work on visual analytics of healthcare-related data through podium, posters, or demo presentations as well as to learn more about emerging techniques, software applications, and datasets. This year the VAHC 2015 workshop is co-located with the IEEE VIS conference in Chicago, Illinois. To formalize the community, the VAHC workshop and the workshop on Visualizing Electronic Health Record Data -- EHRVis (www.cs.umd.edu/hcil/parisehrvis/) have merged and plan on hosting events at IEEE VIS and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Annual Symposium, alternating yearly. TOPICS AND SCOPE: ------------------ We will welcome discussions of the use of visual approaches, interaction design, statistical methods, and machine learning for healthcare data analysis. Participants may address the needs of a variety of users, including clinical researchers, epidemiologists, public health analysts, pharmaco-vigilance experts, physicians, hospital-based quality assurance officers, insurance claim analysts, and patients. Topics of interests include but are not limited to: * Visual Analytics of health data (e.g., in surgery, radiology, Electronic Health Records, emergency room and operation room, patient safety, Public Health Data, patient-generated health data, clinical data, drugs) * Visual Analytics for forecasting and tracking of health data (e.g., pandemic forecasting and tracking, outcome forecasting or prediction) * Improving patient understanding and/or physician-patient communication with Visual Analytics * Dashboards for health data (e.g., Public Health Surveillance programs) PAPER SUBMISSION AND FORMAT GUIDELINES: --------------------------------------- We encourage a diverse range of submissions and demonstrations from academic, healthcare organizations, and industry that addresses any of the topics listed above. See http://vacommunity.org/VASTchallenge2015 for details. This year’s VAST Challenge presents two related mini-challenges and an overall Grand Challenge for your consideration. The challenges are open to teams and individuals in academia, industry, and government. This year, we would like to encourage participants create innovative visualizations to support their analyses of the data. There will be many different features within the data sets that could use creative approaches, so even if your particular approach doesn’t address the entire Challenge problem set, please enter and show us your new ways of working with this data. *Background* *Note: This scenario and all the people, places, groups, technologies, contained therein are fictitious. Any resemblance to real people, places, groups, or technologies is purely coincidental.* DinoFun World is a modest-sized park amusement park, sitting on about 215 hectares and hosting thousands of visitors each day. It has a small town feel, but it is well known for its exciting rides and events. One event last year was a weekend tribute to Scott Jones, internationally renowned football (“soccer,” in US terminology) star. Scott is from a town nearby DinoFun World. DinoFun World declared “Scott Jones Weekend” where he was scheduled to appear in two stage shows each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to talk about his life and career. In addition, a show of memorabilia from his career would be displayed in the park’s Pavilion. However, the event did not go as planned. Scott’s weekend was marred by crime and mayhem perpetrated by a poor, misguided and disgruntled figure from Scott’s past. While the crimes were rapidly solved, park officials and law enforcement figures are interested in understanding what happened during that weekend to better prepare themselves for future events. They are interested in understanding how people move and communicate in the park, as well as how patterns change and evolve over time, and what can be understood about the motivations for changing patterns. *The Challenges* *Mini-Challenge 1 * Mini-Challenge 1 focuses on movement of people around the park. You are asked to characterize the movement of groups and individuals, with a special emphasis on what might be relevant to better understanding the incident that occurred in June 2014. These tools have typically been designed for experts, including scientists, financiers, and other professionals. However, individuals are now increasingly able to collect and manipulate large volumes of data about themselves (e.g. biometric data, exercise, sleep, and nutrition data) as well as data about topics that interest them (neighborhood statistics, sports metrics, environmental data, etc.). This "personal data" is creating new opportunities for both visualization and visual analytics, and presents a variety of new research and design challenges. Recently, the visualization community has started to consider the emerging and important case of "personal visualization" and examine the challenges and potential associated with collecting, visualizing, and making sense of personal data. This workshop, held in conjunction with the <http://ieeevis.org/> 2015 IEEE VIS conference in Chicago, will examine the opportunities and challenges for personal visualization and personal visual analytics. The venue will provide an opportunity to discuss the current landscape of personal visualization tools and approaches as well as highlight ongoing work in this new area. We welcome submissions both as papers and as posters/demos. PAPERS Authors should submit a 2-4 page position paper in <http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera_tvcg.html> TVCG format which describe a personal visualization challenge, informed by their own research, observations, or thinking about personal visualization and analytics. Position papers should clearly identify one challenge and discuss implications for the visualization community. High quality papers might be selected for a journal publication. *Submission deadline* - June 30 *Notification* - July 10 During IEEE BDVA 2015 a special session on Immersive Analytics will be hold. Immersive Analytics is an emerging research thrust which investigates how new interaction and display technologies can be used to support analytical reasoning and decision making. The aim is to provide multi-sensory interfaces for analytics approaches that support collaboration and allow users to immerse themselves in their data and designs. Immersive Analytics builds on technologies such as large touch surfaces, immersive virtual and augmented reality environments, and sensor devices. For this special session, we aim to bring together researchers working on all aspects of Immersive Analytics to discuss research directions and challenges, and to present the current state of the art. VIS publication dataset available

We have made available to all a dataset of information about the IEEE VIS Conference papers from 1990-2014. The dataset contains each paper that has appeared at the IEEE VAST, InfoVis, and SciVis Conferences, and it includes information such as the paper's year, conference, title, authors, abstract, DOI, pages, and more. We also provide the de-duped author names for each paper, that is, a list of authors where the different spellings, initials used, etc., of a specific person have been unified to one consistent string. Additionally, for each paper we include a list of the earlier papers from the three conferences that it cites as a reference. Further information about the dataset and a download link can be found at http://vispubdata.org. We have created this dataset as a resource for the entire visualization community and we hope that it will be helpful to you in your own research. We also intend to update the dataset in the future with the information about each new year's papers. If you find errors or mistakes in the datafile, please leave a comment there and we will correct them. Additionally, three visualizations useful for exploring different aspects of the dataset can be found at http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/ii/citevis/VIS25/. They were originally created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the conference in November in Paris at VIS '14, and they now have been udpated to include the 2014 papers data as well. VizSec provides an excellent venue for fostering greater exchange and new collaborations on a broad range of security- and privacy-related topics. VizSec will be held in Chicago, Illinois, USA in conjunction with IEEE VIS. The purpose of VizSec is to explore effective and scalable visual interfaces for security domains such as network security, computer forensics, reverse engineering, insider threat detection, cryptography, privacy, user assisted attacks prevention, compliance management, wireless security, secure coding, and penetration testing. Technical Papers ---------------- Full papers describing novel contributions in security visualization are solicited. Papers may present techniques, applications, practical experience, theory, analysis, experiments, or evaluations. The poster program will be a great opportunity for the authors to interact with the attendees and solicit feedback. Accepted poster abstracts will be made available on this website. Tests and Evaluation -------------------- When applicable, submissions including tests and evaluations of the proposed tools and techniques are considered particularly desirable. If possible, making the data used for the tests available will also be considered positively. If you do not have real-world data to demonstrate your visualization, you may be interested in looking at the VAST Challenge data sets. Submissions ----------- The VizSec 2015 proceedings will be published by IEEE. Papers should be at most 8 pages including the bibliography and appendices. Committee members are not required to read the appendices or any pages past the maximum. Postdoctoral Research Position in scientific processes visualisation

A 24 months postdoctoral position beginning in Fall 2015 is opened in Nantes (France) in information visualisation, namely visualization of scientific processes in astrophysics. The researcher will collaborate with an epistemology researcher on the analysis and visualization of astrophysicists’ activity. Three categories of visualization tools are considered for three categories of users: epistemologists, astrophysicists, and the general public. The project is well funded and will provide an excellent environment for publishing in leading venues in HCI, frequent travels to Paris (Saclay) are to be expected. The net salary, including medical insurance, will be > 2000€ net, depending on experience and qualification. The candidate should have a PhD with honours in HCI, infovis or activity analysis and an interest for humanities, as well as good programming skills.
