This study was commissioned by CISE’s Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (ACI) in 2013 to examine priorities and trade-offs for advanced computing in support of NSF-supported science and engineering research. An interim report was published in Fall 2014 identifying key issues and catalyzing input from the community. The final report, which was issued in late April, considered contributions from multiple stakeholders, including more than 60 submitted comments from individuals, research groups, and organizations. The recommendations within the report aim to: (1) position the United States for continued leadership in science and engineering; (2) ensure that computing resources meet community needs; (3) aid the scientific community in keeping up with the revolution in computing, and (4) sustain the infrastructure for advanced computing. We are enthusiastic about the study’s helpful observations and recommendations. The timing of the report is excellent, syncing with planning for NSF’s future research cyberinfrastructure (CI) investments. It also nicely complements the National Strategic Computing Initiative (NSCI)<https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/07/29/executive-order-crea…> that was announced last summer and some of our internal planning with respect to data infrastructure as the NSF-wide Cyberinfrastructure for 21st-Century Science, Engineering, and Education (CIF21) effort transitions. Position papers must not exceed 8 pages and they should relate to an ongoing research or experience. Position papers will be presented by the authors alongside regular papers. Position papers may be also submitted as DEMO PAPERS and presented as demonstrations of software tools and products. They should describe non-for-profit software tools in a prototype-, alpha-, or beta-version. We invite TWO TYPES OF POSITION PAPERS: EMERGING RESEARCH PAPERS present preliminary research results from work-in-progress based on sound scientific approach but presenting work not completely validated as yet. 2nd Biennial BPViz: Broadening Participation in Visualization Workshop, August 3 - 4, 2016

The 2016 CRA-W/CDC CADENS Broadening Participation in Visualization (BPViz'16) Workshop will be held August 3-4, 2016. The workshop will be co-located at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The goal of the workshop is to cross boundaries between STEM and non-STEM domains of scientists with data visualization needs, to facilitate collaborations and broaden participation in visualization on all levels in academia, research and industry. Sponsored by Computing Research Association -Women (CRA-W), The Coalition to Diversity Computing (CDC), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), BPViz is designed to bring together persons with an interest in visualization to: (1) present work-in-progress, (2) engage with others in the field, (3) obtain feedback from visualization experts, (4) discuss research and career interests, and (4) build a community of persons interested in broadening participation and inclusion across all domains where data visualization drives analysis and discovery. The workshop will include presentations on a variety of visualization topics, plenary speakers from academia, industry and research in the visualization field and much more. We have taken into account feedback from the 1st CRA-W/CDC BPViz Workshop participants in 2014, and we are changing the format a bit to include hands-on visualization workshops with various visualization tools and a trip to The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. BPViz'16 Workshop is an ideal opportunity to engage with others with interests in visualization, get hands-on experience with commonly used visualization tools, and network with visualization domain scientists. It is designed to inform, inspire and encourage participants to engage in the multidisciplinary dynamics of visualization. Who should apply: All persons with an interest in visualization are encouraged to apply (this includes, but is not limited to): undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, faculty, research faculty and staff. All academic majors and research interests with an interest in visualization are encouraged to apply. Women and members of underrepresented groups and underrepresented academic domains are also encouraged to apply. Travel expenses (flight or mileage), meals and lodging costs will be provided for a limited number of workshop participants. Persons who would like to be considered for travel support should indicate so when applying. We are regrettably restricted to reimbursing/providing travel support to only U.S. Citizens. 3-year Research Associate Position on Interactive Visual Analysis for Decision-Making within Cyber-Security Systems Dear colleagues, The giCentre at City University London is seeking a Research Associate in Visualisation to work on the EU funded Project DiSIEM. The post is on researching Interactive Visualisation methods for Supporting Decision-Making in Diverse Cyber-Security Systems. The position is within the EC H2020 funded "DiSIEM - Diversity Enhancements for SIEMs" and is for a fixed term of 36 months and is available from 1 September 2016. The project is coordinated by University of Lisbon and has 5 industrial partners involved -- EDP, ATOS, Amadeus, Digital MR, and Fraunhofer Institute . The project is an innovation action and in addition to excellent research, we strive to deliver deployable quality solutions. We expect you to have a PhD degree (either awarded or thesis submitted) or equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline possibly within Computer Science or related fields. We will be looking for expertise and publication record in visualisation, visual-analytics, human-computer interaction, and human factors in visualisation design. Advances in Visual Methods for Linguistics (AVML2016)

Dear InfoVis scholars, The UQ Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language will be hosting the AVML2016 conference this coming September. The conference is a great way for scholars from diverse fields to meet and discuss the visualisation of many forms of language and communication data including medical imaging, word clouds, concept maps, language trees, spectrograms, amongst others. If your research involves visual modelling, analysis and/or exploration of any aspect of language or communication data the AVML2016 conference is a great way to showcase and discuss this work with a diverse range of experts. Advances in Visual Methods for Linguistics 2016 (AVML2016) Call for papers Linguistics, like other scientific disciplines, is centrally reliant upon visual images for the elicitation, analysis and presentation of data. It is difficult to imagine how linguistics could have developed, and how it could be done today, without visual representations such as syntactic trees, psychophysical models, vocal tract diagrams, dialect maps, or spectrograms. With the emergence of new visualisation methods and technologies there is a renewed interest in the application of these techniques to the study of language. In 2012, the University of York hosted the first AVML meeting, addressing a need within the academic community for a forum dedicated to sharing work in this emergent interdisciplinary space. After the success of this first meeting, The University of Tübingen then hosted AVML2014. The UQ Node of theARCCentre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language<http://www.dynamicsoflanguage.edu.au/> at the University of Queensland is hosting 'Advances in Visual Methods for Linguistics' on September 26th - 28th 2016. The AVML2016 meeting consists of two events: The workshop with hands-on workshops/sessions (September 26th) and the conference with oral and poster presentations (September 27th & 28th).
