Participants still needed for visualization recommendation performance study

Hi everyone, I am a graduate student in computer science, and we are conducting a user study to evaluate the performance of different data visualization recommendation techniques. We still need a couple more professional participants for our user study from the *industry* (Part-time students with an occupation in the industry are also welcome to sign up!). The user study only requires basic visualization or data analysis experience, such as experience with one of the following tools (or similar tools): Excel, R, SAS, Numpy/Pandas, Tableau, D3JS. In the study, you would interact with a visual analytic tool and complete 4 analysis tasks. The position can be extended after the initial 2-year period up to an additional 2 years. We are seeking highly creative and motivated individuals that want to start their research career in immersive visualization at the EAC. Candidates need to have a strong background in interactive computer graphics or related fields, good programming skills, experience with current graphics APIs, and familiarity with visualization tools and/or game engines. VISSOFT 2021: 9th IEEE Working Conference on Software Visualization Call for Papers ============ Conference website: https://vissoft.info/2021/ Software visualization is a broad research area whose general goal is to enhance and promote the theory, realization, and evaluation of approaches to visually encode and analyze software systems, including software development practices, evolution, structure, and software runtime behavior. Software visualization is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing on theories and techniques from areas such as information visualization, human-computer interaction, computer graphics, and data science, and applying these in the software engineering domain. The VISSOFT conference is principally a venue for publishing and discussing research related to software visualization. Consequently, VISSOFT brings together a community of researchers from software engineering, information visualization, human-computer interaction, computer graphics, and data science to discuss theoretical foundations, algorithms, techniques, tools, and applications related to software visualization. This year’s VISSOFT, co-held with ICSME, encourages a variety of submissions that address outstanding challenges in software systems using visualization. This includes technical papers, evaluations, applications/design studies, systems and formalisms, and papers that present novel ideas and tools. === Topics of interest include: - Innovative visualization and visual analytics techniques for analysis of software engineering data. Papers will be rigorously reviewed by an international program committee. In addition to technical papers, VISSOFT features a New Ideas and Emerging Results and Tool Demo (NIER/TD) track. All accepted submissions will appear in the conference proceedings and the IEEE Digital Library. Submission Types =============== ==== Technical papers: A technical paper contribution must describe an in-depth and mature research result relevant to software visualization. The content of a technical paper can be at a maximum 10 pages long (including all figures, tables, and appendices). However, the 10 page limit does not include the bibliography, which is limited by two additional pages. The submission of a video (up to 5 minutes in length) to accompany the paper is highly encouraged to show interaction possibilities. Authors who wish to submit a video can submit the video together with their paper if the size of the video is smaller than 50 MB, alternatively a URL to the video could be provided. Authors of technical papers that do not receive an acceptance recommendation from reviewers can, eventually, be invited to adapt the paper and make it acceptable for the NIER/TD track. Indeed, the Big Data era has realized the availability of voluminous datasets that are dynamic, noisy and heterogeneous in nature. Transforming a data-curious user into someone who can access and analyze that data is even more burdensome now for a great number of users with little or no support and expertise on the data processing part. Thus, the area of data visualization, visual exploration and analysis has gained great attention recently, calling for joint action from different research areas from the HCI, Computer graphics and Data management and mining communities. In this respect, several traditional problems from these communities such as efficient data storage, querying & indexing for enabling visual analytics, new ways for visual presentation of massive data, efficient interaction and personalization techniques that can fit to different user needs are revisited. The modern exploration and visualization systems should nowadays offer scalable techniques to efficiently handle billion objects datasets, limiting the visual response in a few milliseconds along with mechanisms for information abstraction, sampling and summarization for addressing problems related to visual information over-plotting. Further, they must encourage user comprehension offering customization capabilities to different user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences according to the analysis needs. Overall, the challenge is to offer self-service visual analytics, i.e. enable data scientists and business analysts to visually gain value and insights out of the data as rapidly as possible, minimizing the role of IT-expert in the loop. The BigVis workshop aims at addressing the above challenges and issues by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss, exchange, and disseminate their work. Subjects needed for Visualization User Study

Greetings, Are you interested in participating in cutting edge research on the development of state-of-the-art visualization systems? Then this email is for you! We are conducting an online study on the usability of recommendation tools for the creation of interactive visualizations. We are seeking out participants for a 65-minute study (no more than 2 hours) that will require you to try out new data science techniques, create astonishing visualizations, and interact with a state-of-the-art visualization system. In the session, you will use a new visualization tool and provided datasets to create visualizations that highlight the requested properties. This session will be followed by a brief interview. You will only be interviewed once. This is an opportunity to be an active contributor to current and future data science research. Participation is completely voluntary and the experience and data you share will be anonymous. Personal demographic data, answers to interview questions, and interaction logs will be collected and shared after being anonymized. To participate in this study you must meet the following criteria: 1) Be over the age of 18 2) Have greater than three months of experience using D3.js 3) Have at least basic visualization or data analysis experience.
