We solicit poster submissions in the form of a sketch (i.e., an extended abstract of at most 2 pages in the EuroVis poster format, with an additional page allowed for references only) submitted as a PDF file. Contributions must be written and presented in English. We also strongly encourage the submission of additional materials. The poster draft itself can also be added as additional material (not mandatory for the initial submission, but mandatory for eventual camera-ready submission of accepted posters). As stated by UNESCO, cultural heritage provides societies with a wealth of resources inherited from the past, created in the present for the benefit of future generations. The massive digitization of historical analogue resources and production of born digital documents provide us with large volumes of varied multimedia heritage data (images, maps, text, video, 3D objects, multi-sensor data, etc.), which represent an extremely rich heritage that can be exploited in a wide variety of fields, from research in social sciences and computational humanities to land use and territorial policies, including urban modeling, digital simulation, archaeology, tourism, education, culture preservation, creative media and entertainment. In terms of research in computer science, artificial intelligence, and digital humanities, they address challenging problems related to the diversity, specificity or volume of the media, the veracity of the data, and the different user needs with respect to engaging with this rich material and the extraction of value out of the data. These challenges are reflected in the corresponding sub-fields of machine learning, signal processing, mono/multi-modal techniques and human-machine interaction. The objective of this special issue is to present and discuss the latest and most significant trends on analysis, understanding and promotion of heritage contents, focusing on advances on machine learning, signal processing, mono/multi-modal techniques, and human-machine interaction. ** FUNDED PHD POSITION AT TU VIENNA ** [Funded PhD Position] ViSual ANalytics for Event-based Diffusion on Networks @ TU Wien f/m/d (30-40h) We are hiring a talented PhD candidate in an international project on the visual analytics of complex diffusion processes over temporal networks. You will work in the context of SANE, a project held by TU Vienna (Austria), the University of Cologne (Germany) and the University of Newcastle (United Kingdom). This project arrangement gives you unique career opportunities, including student exchanges abroad, regular meetings with researchers from the other institutions participating to the project. We are looking for a PhD candidate to work from the TU Wien, at the Institute of Visual Computing and Human-Centered Technology, in the Research Unit of Visual Analytics. We offer a position as project assistant (prae-doc) limited to 3 years for 30 hours/week (that can beex-tended to 40). Gross annual (monthly) salary of Euro 43,650 (2,464.80) according to FWF regulations. Pandemics, computer malware attacks, misinformation campaigns – all of these phenomena have one thing in common: some kind of “information” (a pathogen, a virus, fake news) that spreads across an underlying structure of elements interconnected between each other by some kind of relationship (physical contacts, public WiFi, social networks). In Computer Science, such structures are known as graphs or networks – and have been extensively researched. Within this formalization, the phenomena described above are referred to as diffusion processes, and their dynamics have been studied and researched to obtain models that allow researchers and institutions predict, mitigate, and generally understand such complex events. Visual Analytics (VA) showed its potential in communicating and investigating information diffusion processes over networks. Diffusion processes are highly dynamic and stochastic phenomena. To this end, VA needs to tackle two challenges: representing the progression on the underlying dynamic network structure and capturing the uncertainty of the process. The majority of existing VA approaches approximate the problem by imposing a discrete time structure to the input data and disregarding uncertainties. We strive to be among the first to systematically explore the design space of VA for event-based information diffusion with uncertainty. We investigate promising but currently under-represented research trends in VA with innovative solutions and approaches, to contribute to the current body of knowledge in the field and open new and exciting research questions. Information Visualization has been one of the cornerstones of Data Science, turning the abundance of Big Data being produced through modern systems into actionable knowledge. Indeed, the Big Data era has realized the availability of voluminous datasets that are dynamic, multidimensional, noisy and heterogeneous in nature. Transforming a data-curious user into someone who can access and analyze that data is even more burdensome now for a great number of users with little or no support and expertise on the data processing part. In this context, several traditional problems from Data Management & Mining, Information Visualization, and Human-computer Interaction communities, such as efficient data storage, querying, and indexing to enable visual analytics, as well as new ways and AI techniques for visual presentation of massive data, need to be revisited. For instance, techniques that provide mechanisms for information abstraction, prefetching, sampling, progressive data visualization, and summarization to address problems related to visual information overplotting. Furthermore, it is essential to develop new methods that enhance user comprehension by providing customization options tailored to various user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences. The Big Data Visual Exploration and Analytics workshop (BigVis) aims at addressing the above challenges and issues by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss, exchange, and disseminate their work. The conference fosters multi-disciplinarity and allows researchers from areas such as computer science, mathematics, psychology, philosophy, history (of science, art, etc.), education research, and more to meet and share their perspectives on the theory and application of diagrams. We invite tutorials consisting of shorter presentations and activities that run for a maximum of 2 hours. Previously, attendees have particularly enjoyed tutorials that are interactive and spark debate. In contrast to Workshops, Tutorials do not solicit contributions from attendees. Tutorials are expected to address topics that are of interest to the Diagrams 2024 conference attendees.
