Expressions of Interest to contribute to EuroVIS 2026 - PhD Education Track : You, Me and the VIS PhD

Hi everyone, We are organizing an activity track at the EuroVis 2026 conference<https://eurovis.org.uk/> where we would like to bring together PhD students and academics for a focused activity on PhD Education in Data Visualization. We would like to discuss PhD study, skills and supervision for students and staff and involved in PhD Education in Visualization by connecting, sharing best practice and developing ideas for the future. Details of the activity can be found on this page<https://jsndyks.github.io/diverse-cdt/eurovis/>. The activity is currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th in the afternoon (subject to changes until the EuroVis programme is finalized). To kick-start the activity, we are inviting current or prospective PhD students, at any stage in their studies or planning, to introduce themselves and connect with fellow PhDs and supervisors. This is a great opportunity to build a network of fellow PhDs, hear from experienced academics on their PhD experience and contribute to discussions where we will aim to imagine the visualization PhDs of the future. Please submit your expression of interest through a straightforward submission. The submission is a single visual that tells us something about you and your PhD. This can be anything, submitted in advance, but might involve: * your approach to visualization / design * something important to your PhD * why you love visualization * your favourite / least favourite data vis * something about you (or your data, or your cat) * the future of visualization * something you care about You can request a 1, 3 or 5 minute presentation during the submission and we do our best to fit that in during the day! IEEE vis4climate workshop

We are pleased to invite you to **vis4climate**, the 4th workshop on Visualization and Climate Change. This half-day workshop will be held at IEEE VIS 2026 in Boston and aims to build a strong transdisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners working in visualization or climate change related areas. The workshop brings together researchers and practitioners from visualization, climate science, policy, and other fields that relate to climate change to discuss how visualization can support climate mitigation, adaptation, and communication. We welcome submissions across research, reflections, and demos/pictorials. Previous events were held in Bilbao, Genova, Warsaw, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Guimarães, Luleå, Bournemouth, Bari, and Porto. Deep learning is a branch of artificial intelligence covering a spectrum of current frontier research and industrial innovation that provides more efficient algorithms to deal with large-scale data in a huge variety of environments: computer vision, neurosciences, speech recognition, language processing, human-computer interaction, drug discovery, biomedicine and healthcare, medical image analysis, recommender systems, advertising, fraud detection, robotics, games, business and finance, biotechnology, physics and astrophysics, biometrics, communications, climate sciences, geographic information systems, signal processing, genomics, materials design, video technology, social systems, earth and sustainability, mathematical proofs, etc. etc. The field is also raising a number of relevant questions about efficiency and robustness of the algorithms, explainability, transparency, interpretability, risks and safety, as well as important ethical concerns at the frontier of current knowledge that deserve careful multidisciplinary discussion. Most deep learning subareas will be displayed and main challenges identified through 16 four-hour and a half courses, 2 keynote lectures, 1 round table, and a hackathon competition among participants. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Face to face interaction and networking will be main ingredients of the event. It will be also possible to fully participate in vivo remotely. ADDRESSED TO: Graduates, postgraduates and industry practitioners will be typical profiles of participants. However, there are no formal pre-requisites for attendance in terms of academic degrees, hence people less or more advanced in their career will be welcome as well. Since there will be a variety of levels, specific knowledge background may be assumed for some of the courses. Overall, DeepLearn 2026 is addressed to students, researchers and practitioners who want to keep themselves updated about recent developments and future trends. All will surely find it fruitful to listen to and discuss with major researchers, industry leaders and innovators. The International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization has been the main annual conference in this area for more than 30 years. In particular, the submitted paper should not contain the authors’ names, affiliations, and email addresses. References to their own related work are allowed, as long as the supporting text maintains anonymity (e.g., using sentences in the third person). To this end, authors may indicate their preference for a remote presentation at the time of submitting their article. Such papers are evaluated and selected by the program committee by applying the same high standards as for the other papers. There is a limit of at most four remote presentations. In case of more requests, decisions may depend on the validity of the reasons mentioned. IEEE VGTC Visualization Awards call for nominations, due May 31 2026

The IEEE VGTC Visualization Awards program recognizes and honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community through their research and/or service. Please nominate individuals that enable us to recognize both the diversity of individuals and the diversity of contributions from the community at large. There are six categories of VGTC Visualization Awards. *VGTC Visualization Dissertation Award:* recognizes outstanding academic research and development in the field. Eligibility: within 2 calendar years of defending. *VGTC Visualization Significant New Researcher Award:* recognizes an individual who has made significant recent research contributions in the field. Eligibility: most recent degree within 7 years. *VGTC Visualization Technical Achievement Award:* recognizes an individual for a seminal technical achievement and/or significant contribution in the field. *VGTC Visualization Lifetime Achievement Award:* given to an individual to honor that person’s lifetime contribution to the field. *VGTC Visualization Service Award:* recognizes extraordinary service to the community through the IEEE VGTC and/or the IEEE VGTC Sponsored Conferences and Symposia. *VGTC Visualization Academy:* induction into the Academy recognizes the accomplishments of the leaders in the field. Dear VIS Community, The 4th workshop on visualization education, literacy, and activities will be held at the IEEE VIS 2026 conference in Boston, United States, with the option to join online. The EduVis workshop aims to become the primary forum to share and discuss advances, challenges, and methods at the intersection of visualization and education. Submission Guidelines and Reviewing Criteria The workshop will accept two types of submissions, peer-reviewed by at least two PC members and one workshop organizer. Paper submissions: full papers (4-8 pages excluding references, must follow the formatting guidelines for VGTC Conference Style Template); submissions will be published at the IEEE Xplore with authors’ permission. Note: Similar to the VIS paper stream, we accept both double-blind (anonymized) and single-blind (not anonymized) submissions Educator reports: short reports (1-2 pages, template agnostic) to discuss opinions or reflections on teaching experiences or describe the results of a datavis activity conducted and how it could be reused by others and in other contexts; they will be published in the Nightingale magazine (pre-arranged with the Data Visualization Society). Topics of interest are the same as those given in the calls for papers for the three conference tracks: Main, Philosophy, Psychology and Education. Students who wish to present their work at the symposium must submit a 3-page report describing – their thesis topic and the approach being taken, – the work that has been completed, – the expected contributions of the research, – any necessary acknowledgements (for example, supervision team and source funding) Students should be the sole authors of their submission, and the supervisor's name should be included in the acknowledgements section. *The report must be submitted in Springer LNCS format.* *Students who submit to the graduate symposium must ask their main or lead supervisor to submit a short supporting statement.* The supporting statement should confirm that the supervisor supports the student’s participation in the symposium and briefly explain why the student will benefit.It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their supervisor submits the supporting statement. This minitrack focuses on human decision making through interactive AI, human–computer teaming, visual analytics, visual interaction with AI (including ML and LLMs), and statistical and machine learning processes. We welcome contributions spanning laboratory studies, cognitive studies, communication theory, risk analysis, decision science, mis/disinformation, policy science, and field experiments.
