We plan to keep all the important dates of the conference as announced. ================================================ Graph Drawing is concerned with the geometric representation of graphs and constitutes the algorithmic core of Network Visualization. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, and software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 25 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. GD 2020 will take place September 15-18, 2020, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters, and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. PAPERS ------ We invite authors to submit papers describing original research of theoretical or practical significance to graph drawing and network visualization. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of two distinct tracks described below. Papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms • Geometric and topological graph theory • Computational topology of graphs on surfaces • Geometric network design and optimization • Geometric computing Track 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as the development of network visualization systems and interfaces in different application areas. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Visualization of graphs and networks in real world applications, including big data analysis • Engineering of network visualization algorithms and systems • Experimental results in graph theory and algorithms • Benchmarks and experimental studies of network visualization systems and user interfaces • Cognitive studies on graph drawing readability and user interaction • Interfaces and methods for interacting with graphs Authors of applied papers will have the opportunity to show a demo of their software/system during the conference. SHORT PAPERS ------------ In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers, describing theoretical or applied contributions of shorter length. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. SUBMISSION FORMAT ----------------- All submissions must be formatted using the LaTeX style file for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. To promote inclusion of more figures in the submitted papers, submission will have a strict number of lines limit and the possibility to have one page more compared to previous years. REGULAR PAPERS HAVE AT MOST 400 lines (excluding references and figures) AND AT MOST 13 PAGES (excluding references). Short papers have at most 200 lines (excluding references and figures) AND at most 7 pages (excluding references). The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. If this information does not fit within the page limits, the authors should include it in a clearly marked appendix, whose length is not constrained and which the reviewers may read at their own discretion. GD 2020 will be online on September 16-18, 2020, hosted by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters, and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. POSTERS ------- The submission of posters on graph drawing, network visualization, and related areas is solicited. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Due to Covid-19 poster session will be done online. During the conference there will be an online 45-minute poster session where participants of the conference will have access to zoom rooms, one room for each accepted poster with at least one of the authors present in the room to answer questions. Furthermore, each poster will be accessible online to all participants during the entire conference. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to two pages, excluding references, in LNCS style) that must be submitted via easychair. Abstracts of accepted posters will appear in the conference proceedings (two pages+references). The format of the poster is unrestricted this year, the authors just send a URL for their electronic poster. However, there are two requirements: (1) the poster must be accessible online during the entire period September 10-25, (2) a participant should be able to get the main information within at most 5 minutes when browsing/reading the poster. A valid webiste URL is mandatory to submit your poster. That url may point to a blank page until 19 August and you'll be able to update it until 9 September (23:59 PDT). Each submission will then consist of a pdf file (the two-page abstract) and a web link and must include names, email addresses and contact information of the contributors. Influence of/in visualizations helps to shape ideas, create opinions, spread information or foster debates, often beyond the community of viewers it is devised. The most influential visualizations are recalled, mentioned, or imitated over time; mostly, they generate new knowledge or inspire new visualizations. Although we are all touched by influential visualizations, the topic of influence is still little explored by scholars of visual analysis/communication. For instance, defining, quantifying, and measuring influence in visualizations need to be verified. Equally, thorough investigations are required to define the visual elements that characterize influence or understand how producing more influential visualizations. Dear Colleagues, [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] We invite researchers and practitioners working in the field of interactive surfaces and spaces to submit workshop proposals for ISS 2020. *ISS Workshops provide a unique opportunity to discuss ideas, challenges, and new work around more specific topics in the area of interactive spaces and surfaces.* We welcome proposals from a large variety of topics and domains. Example topics include but are not limited to: Architectural concepts and emerging trends Immersive analytics and data physicalization Museum and art installation trends Interaction paradigms around large surfaces (tangibles, pen+touch, etc.) New and emerging body and space sensing technologies Overview of social protocols, presence, territoriality, and proxemics Evaluation methods for surface applications Multi-touch interaction with mobile devices Feel, taste, smell and splash user interfaces on surfaces ... and other exciting topics! ACM ISS 2020 Tutorials Call for Participants! Tutorials provide a broad overview of particular topics in the area of Interactive Surfaces and Spaces from recognized experts in the field. We invite industry and academic leaders in interactive surfaces and spaces technologies interested in leading a tutorial session at ISS 2020 to submit a tutorial proposal following the guidelines below. ACM Spatial User Interaction 2020: Call for Poster Submissions We invite you to showcase your demo at the ACM Symposium on Spatial User Interaction (SUI 2020, https://sui.acm.org/2020/) which will be held virtually from 31 October to 1 November 2020. Posters offer you the opportunity of engaging the audience of the Symposium at a personal level, elicit feedback on early stage work, and discuss potential collaborations in an informal manner. You will also be able to publicize your poster during the fast-forward session at the Symposium. We seek posters describing work in progress, novel ideas or systems, or late breaking results and application implementations from all areas of spatial user interaction. You can submit both a paper and a poster on the same topic, and some authors of otherwise rejected papers will be invited to present their work as a poster. Extra information such as videos may also be submitted. These will be taken into account during the review process and may be included in the final publication. This year, SUI will be co-located with the ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST 2020) and CHI PLAY 2020. Be sure to include the names and affiliations of all authors. Posters extended abstracts should be prepared as a two-page manuscript in the ACM SIG Proceedings format<http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html>. Please submit your extended abstract in camera-ready format and include an initial poster draft. For the LaTeX version, the correct template to use is sigconf. The poster abstracts will be included in the ACM Digital Library. * Submissions are expected to address topics within the scope of SUI, i.e., one or more of the topics listed in the Call for Papers page<https://sui.acm.org/2020/papers>. Unlisted but strongly related topics are also welcome. * At least one author of each accepted poster will be required to register to present at the symposium. The demo abstracts will be included in the ACM Digital Library. * Also, a mandatory explanatory video of the demo should be included in the original submission. The submission should include information about the overall architecture of the system, installation, exhibit or performance, interaction with the audience, foreseen benefits to audience members, as well as its relevance and impact on the SUI community, emphasizing on the novelty and rationale. In addition, a short paragraph with a description of the research lab or creators is strongly encouraged. * Unlike paper submissions, demo submissions are NOT anonymous and should include full names and affiliations of the authors. * Supplementary materials should include a schematic of the layout (showing components such as projectors/cameras) of the demo and a picture showing the demo in action, particularly for presenting the demo physically at the symposium. Demos should be presentable in a form of video presentation or online live demonstration during the symposium. * The authors of the accepted demos must provide a 30-sec brief video of the demo in action, including audio descriptions, for the final camera-ready version. The video should demonstrate how users will interact with the demo as well as any other relevant information about the demo. Many of these systems have been incorporating machine learning (ML) models and algorithms to introduce some level of automation to the analytical process. However, within this relationship, there are a number of aspects that can impact the effectiveness of the human-machine teaming, including 1) people's domain and system expertise; 2) human biases, including cognitive and perceptual biases; 3) trust in ML models and visual representation of data. Expertise, bias, and trust are intrinsically intertwined. Additionally, visual analytics systems are used in different fields and by people from various backgrounds, with different levels of domain expertise and experience with machine learning and visual analytics tools. This variety of experience and domain expertise among human users has opened the door for new research directions and challenges in the fields of visual analytics and machine learning. Designers who fail to consider the aforementioned diversities might introduce problems to the analysis effectiveness and user experience. Furthermore, experience and domain expertise might affect user trust in visual analytics tools; although, how and why they affect trust is still an open question. Trust will eventually affect how much the users would rely on and use the tool. While users will take advantage of their prior experiences to make better decisions with the assistance of analytic support, they might carry many cognitive biases that can negatively influence their decision-making or analysis process. Recent research shows trust in and reliance on the visual analytics systems/tools as well as user strategies and biases can be directly influenced by domain and system expertise (or lack of expertise). The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines to discuss and discover challenges in ML supported visual analytics tools and set the stage for future research directions and collaborations regarding these issues by proposing design guidelines, empirical findings, and VA techniques. Topics of Interest The workshop suggested topics are as followed: 1. Trust considerations based on different areas of domain expertise (e.g., medical, security, scientific, financial domains). 2. Trust and bias considerations based on different levels of user familiarity with machine learning and visual analytics systems. 3. Detecting and preventing cognitive biases in visual analytics and machine learning for users. 4. User trust in machine learning models and visual explanations of model decisions in visual analytics systems. 5. The correlation between trust, domain knowledge, and potential cognitive biases. 6. The relationship between domain expertise and trust with model transparency, human interpretability, and model understandability in visual data analysis. 7. The relationship between model interpretability, domain expertise, and trust. Contribution Types We are looking for and open to diverse forms of research (as listed below) within the realm of VA and ML with appropriate emphasis and relation to human trust, expertise, and cognitive factors. We encourage submissions of research involving: 1. Human empirical research/findings 2. Design guidelines and surveys 3. Technique papers 4. Position papers 5. Case studies Submission Format The workshop will accept papers with 2 to 6 pages in length, plus 1 page of references. All submissions must be in the IEEE VGTC Conference Style Template format. We also encourage authors to submit a short 30-second video of their work when submitting their work, if applicable. For the camera-ready deadline, all the poster submissions must prepare a 30-second video for the poster fast-forward session. These videos might have audio for archival purposes, but the authors will only use the video as a visual tool while presenting their fast-forward in the workshop.
