* We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this CfP * * Online version: https://www.um.org/umap2024/call-for-lbr-and-demos/ ACM UMAP 2024 - Call for Late-Breaking Results and Demos ACM UMAP 2024: The 32nd ACM Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy July 1-4, 2024 The 32nd International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization (ACM UMAP 2024) is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. ACM UMAP 2024 is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI<https://sigchi.org/> and SIGWEB<https://www.sigweb.org/>. User Modeling Inc.<https://um.org/>, as the core Steering Committee, oversees the conference organization. ACM UMAP operates under the ACM Conference Code of Conduct<https://www.acm.org/about-acm/policy-against-harassment>. The proceedings, published by ACM, will be part of the ACM Digital Library. ACM UMAP 2024 invites Late-Breaking Results (LBR) papers as well as Demonstrations (demos) of innovative UMAP-based systems (including research prototypes). The topics for these submissions are the same as the ones included in the Call for Full and Short Papers<https://www.um.org/umap2024/call-for-full-and-short-papers/>. However, their scope and timing is different. In particular, although short papers (from the main track) and the LBR papers of this call have the same maximum length, LBR papers are expected to present innovative ideas that are being explored and have already shown some promising results. It is also a dissemination channel for new research directions. Mature results which have already gone through experimental validation are more suitable for the general call, either as a full or short paper. Thus, rejected papers from the main track are not expected to be a valuable contribution as an LBR paper unless their contents are revised to address the scope of this track. Note also that LBR papers are to be presented physically during the conference in a poster format, allowing for more informal discussions on the ideas shared. Demos are intended to present systems that have been used to achieve the research outcomes presented as full and short papers. Publication in ACM UMAP 2024 adjunct proceedings. * Presentation. Physically presented as a poster during the conference. * Description. LBRs are research-in-progress that must contain original and unpublished accounts of innovative research ideas, preliminary results, industry showcases, and system prototypes, addressing both the theory and practice of UMAP. In addition, papers introducing recently started research projects or summarizing project results are welcome as well. We encourage researchers and practitioners to submit late-breaking work as it provides a unique opportunity for sharing valuable ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work, and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. In case that papers rejected in the main track (i.e. submitted as full or short papers) are submitted to this track, they should be revised not only to take into account the comments made to help improve the paper, but to fulfill the scope of the LBR, which emphasizes novelty of ideas. This is also valid for papers that have been recommended as an LBR when rejected in the main track. -- Demos Format -- * Page Limits *. Up to 5 pages, plus up to 1 additional page for references (figures, tables, proofs, appendixes, acknowledgments, and any other content count toward the page limit). On an extra page (not to be published), submissions should include a specification of the technical requirements for demonstrating the system at UMAP 2024. * Supporting Material *. Video or external material demonstrating the system. * Proceedings *. Publication in ACM UMAP 2024 adjunct proceedings. * Presentation * . Physically presented as a demo plus as a poster during the conference. * Description *. Demos will showcase research prototypes and commercially available products in a dedicated session. Demo submissions must be based on an implemented and tested system that pursues one or more innovative ideas in the interest areas of the conference. Demonstrations are an excellent and exciting way to showcase implementations and get valuable feedback from the community, especially for those papers that have been presented in the main track. Each demo submission must make clear which aspects of the system will be demonstrated, and how these will be demonstrated on-site as well as online. To better identify the value of demos, we also encourage authors to submit a pointer to a screencast (max. 5 minutes on Vimeo or YouTube) or any external material related to the demo (e.g., shared code on GitHub). *Non-Anonymity.* Submissions will be reviewed single-masked (i.e., authors’ names should be included in the papers) thus there is no need to be anonymized before submission. *Template for the Research Description.* Following the ACM Publication Workflow<https://www.acm.org/publications/taps/word-template-workflow>, all authors should submit manuscripts for review in the new ACM single-column format. The descriptive text will be displayed in place of a float if the float cannot be loaded. This benefits the author and it broadens the reader base for the author’s work. Moreover, the alt text provides in-depth float descriptions to search engine crawlers, which helps to properly index these floats. Additionally, authors should follow the ACM Accessibility Recommendations for Publishing in Color and SIG ACCESS guidelines on describing figures<https://authors.acm.org/journals/accessibility-recommendations-for-publishi…>. ** Review Process & Camera-ready Submission ** * Review * Submissions will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. They will be assessed based on their originality and novelty, potential contribution to the research field, potential impact in particular use cases, and the usefulness of presented experiences, as well as their overall readability. Papers that exceed the page limits or do not adhere to the formatting guidelines will be returned without review. The ACM Code of Ethics<https://ethics.acm.org/> gives the UMAP program committee the right to (desk-)reject papers that perpetuate harmful stereotypes, employ unethical research practices, or uncritically present outcomes/implications that clearly disadvantage minority communities. Further, reviewers will be explicitly asked to consider whether the research was conducted in compliance with professional ethical standards and applicable regulatory guidelines. Failure to do so could lead to a (desk-)rejection. *Camera-ready Information.* Accepted papers will be subject to further revision to meet the requirements of the camera-ready format required by ACM. We strongly recommend the usage of LaTeX/Overleaf for the camera-ready papers to minimize the extent of reformatting. Users of the Word template must use either the version for Microsoft Word for Windows, Macintosh Office 2011, or Macintosh Office 2016 (other formats such as Open Office, etc., are not admitted) for the camera-ready submission to avoid incompatibility issues. Instructions for preparing the camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be provided after acceptance. This might include instructions to prepare a video of the accepted contribution. Camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be later submitted using ACM’s new production platform<https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template> where authors will be able to review PDF and HTML output formats before publication. ** Registration and Presentation Policy ** Each accepted paper must be accompanied by a distinct full author registration, completed by the early registration date cut-off. Each accepted paper must be presented in person to be included in the conference adjunct proceedings, published by ACM and available via the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date is when the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of UMAP 2024. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work. During the conference, all categories will be presented at the poster reception, in the form of a poster and/or a software demonstration following poster format. In this workshop we aim to bring together researchers from both Visual Analytics and Process Mining, to learn, create a common language, spark collaborations, and advance both fields. Process Mining is a data-driven discipline that focuses on extracting valuable insights and knowledge from the vast amount of event data generated within organizations. It involves the discovery, analysis, and improvement of process models by leveraging techniques from data science, machine learning, and data analytics. By examining event logs and historical data, process mining aims to provide a clear, objective view of how processes actually operate, identifying bottlenecks, deviations, and opportunities for optimization. In turn, this supports organizations in making more data-informed decisions, and enhance operational efficiency. Visual analytics is an interdisciplinary field that combines data visualization, analytical techniques, and interactive interfaces to help people make sense of complex and often large datasets. It focuses on using the power of visual representations to facilitate data exploration, pattern recognition, and decision-making. By enabling users to interact with data through graphical interfaces, visual analytics promotes a deeper understanding of information, uncovers hidden insights, and supports the detection of trends, anomalies, and relationships that might be challenging to discern through traditional data analysis methods alone. We believe that process mining and visual analytics can mutually benefit each other. Until now, there has been limited interaction between the two fields, despite their shared objectives. In process mining, the emphasis has traditionally been on data extraction and process discovery, often neglecting the visualization aspect, whereas in visual analytics, event visualization efforts have often overlooked the wealth of process mining techniques that can enhance visualizations and analysis. Bridging this gap and fostering collaboration between the two fields will not only lead to more informed, efficient, and data-driven improvements in various domains but also advance the research and innovation in both process mining and visual analytics, ultimately contributing to a more holistic and integrated approach to understanding and optimizing complex processes. Topics and Scope ---------------- We encourage submissions from all areas on the intersection of visual analytics and process mining. This includes people who are d/Deaf, hard of hearing, or otherwise require captions; people who are blind and low vision; people with mobility challenges; and members of under-represented or historically marginalized groups. Selected individuals will be provided access to live streaming of select IEEE VR 2024 sessions, e.g., the opening/closing ceremonies, keynote talks, and special sessions. Due to IEEE and other restrictions of the public broadcasting of conference content, DEIA Accessibility Streaming will be restricted to those individuals who demonstrate a need through our application. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, life sciences, geography, business intelligence, information security, and software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 30 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing, their practical evaluation, as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters and to participate in the symposium as well as the graph drawing contest. GD 2024 will be held in Vienna, Austria, on September 18-20, 2024 with a reception on the evening of September 17. A pre-conference PhD school will take place September 16-17, 2024. GD 2024 is designed to be held on-site. It is expected that regular papers are presented on site by one of the authors. To address the global challenges and as an offer for authors who are unable to attend we allow for a limited number of remote presentations in the form of preproduced videos. The code of conduct for the GD conference can be found at http://graphdrawing.org/codeOfConduct.html =================================================================== PAPERS We invite authors to submit papers describing original research of theoretical or practical significance to graph drawing and network visualization. To promote a balanced coverage of the field, GD has two distinct tracks, and papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of the two tracks. However, all program committee members may review papers from either track. TRACK 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects This track is mainly devoted to fundamental theoretical graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms • Geometric and topological graph theory • Computational topology of graphs on surfaces • Graph representations • Geometric algorithms and optimization TRACK 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as experimental evaluations of graph drawing related algorithms, the development and/or evaluation of related libraries and tools, or systems and interfaces in different application areas. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Engineering of graph drawing algorithms and network visualization systems • Libraries, tools and systems in the context of graph drawing and network visualization • Interfaces and methods for interacting with graphs and networks • Benchmarks and experimental studies in the context of graph drawing and network visualization • Cognitive studies on network visualization readability and user interaction • Visualization of networks in real world applications Authors of accepted applied papers are encouraged to show a demo of their software/system during the poster session. SHORT PAPERS In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers. Here we welcome smaller and less elaborate contributions on relevant topics. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. REMOTE PRESENTATION For authors who cannot present their paper in person we offer the possibility for remote presentation. Authors of accepted papers in this category have to register for the conference. Papers in this category are evaluated and selected by the program committee by applying the same high standards as for the other tracks. In addition the authors have to submit a recording of their presentation two weeks after the submission of the paper. The remote submission chair can influence the score of papers in this track based on the quality of the recording and even reject submissions if the quality of the recording is inappropriate. There is a limit of six remote presentations. RULES FOR SUBMISSION Results that have been previously published (or are scheduled for publication) in another conference proceedings or journal, as well as simultaneous submissions of results to other conferences with published proceedings or journals are not permitted. Each paper or poster must be presented at the conference by an author, otherwise the paper can be excluded from publication in the proceedings. ChatGPT and similar large language models may be used to improve the paper’s language, but its use should be mentioned as a footnote and the authors remain responsible for the full paper. In particular, the unattributed use of any such tools in the creation of the paper’s scientific content is forbidden. SUBMISSION FORMAT Submissions must be formatted in accordance with the LIPIcs proceedings guidelines. Authors must use the LaTeX class file GD-lipics-v1.cls, which is a wrapper around the standard LIPIcs class. The GD-lipics-v1.cls class file and further instructions can be found on the conference webpage. Submissions must not exceed 500 lines, (225 lines for short contributions) excluding front matter (title, authors, and affiliations), references, and a clearly marked appendix. The class files provide line counting which should be accurate in most cases. Authors should avoid substantial amounts of text in unnumbered lines. To promote inclusion of figures in the submitted papers, submissions will have a strict limit on the number of text lines. Regular papers may have at most 500 lines, short papers 225 lines. We expect the main content of the paper to typically fit within 12 pages excluding references. For publishing purposes, the average length of final versions is limited to 20 pages (including everything). The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. If this information does not fit within the line limit, the authors should include it in a clearly marked appendix, whose length is not constrained and which the reviewers may read at their own discretion. =================================================================== POSTERS & CONTEST Submissions of posters on graph drawing, network visualization, and related areas are solicited. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to 2 pages in LIPIcs style) that must be submitted together with the poster itself. This means that authors are not allowed to reveal their identity in the submitted paper, but are free to disseminate draft versions of the paper prior to the conference and to give talks on the topic as they normally would. In particular, the submitted paper should not contain the authors' names, affiliations, and email addresses. References to their own related work are allowed, as long as the supporting text maintains anonymity (e.g., using sentences in the third person). Members of the Program Committee will not have the identity of the authors of any paper revealed to them during the entire review process. To handle conflicts of interest effectively, authors will be offered the opportunity to declare conflicts of interest with PC members when they submit their paper.
