The aim of ETRA is to bring together researchers and practitioners from across fields with the common goal of continuing to move eye tracking research forward. The symposium presents advances and innovations in oculomotor research, gaze tracking systems, eye tracking applications, gaze-based interaction, and eye movement data analysis. DEMO/VIDEOS ============ Have a gaze interaction technique to share? Want to show off how your new eye tracking method works? Or want to discuss your study setup with other eye tracking researchers? At ETRA 2021, we will have a Demo & Video session, during which researchers give demonstrations of their research or show videos of their work. We encourage new and exciting ideas that may not yet be fully tested. To take part in this session, we request an extended abstract (4 pages + 1 additional page for references) to be submitted. Submission deadline: Feb 02, 2021 DOCTORAL SYMPOSIUM ==================== We invite abstracts from doctoral students who have a defined topic in the area of eye tracking research and applications, and whose work is still in a phase where it can be influenced by the feedback received at the symposium. Outstanding abstracts from students who have not yet been accepted into a doctoral program will also be considered. Participants will be selected based on an extended abstract (3 pages + 1 additional page for references) describing the thesis work, its current status, and future work. The abstract will be included in the ETRA adjunct conference proceedings and published at ACM. In light of new technological opportunities and challenges, public administrations are expanding their digital services in all fields of action. This includes classic e-government offers, such as applications for social benefits or building permits, but also solutions in the context of smart cities, urban sensing, and connected rural communities that rely on active participation, communication, and cooperation among citizens. Ideally, such new technologies will help citizens and civil servants to become efficient users of government services, consentful providers and informed users of government or city data, participants of constructive discourse, and informed decision makers. However, in practice, these goals are difficult to meet due to problems with the acceptance, availability, usability, and practical usefulness of new digital technologies and their application. ----------------------------------------------------------------- TOPICS ----------------------------------------------------------------- The relationship between citizens and public administrations has specific characteristics. Public services have a profound impact on the life of individuals and society. While the requirements for usability and user experience are not fundamentally different in the public sector compared to other areas, there are existential dependencies, for example against the background of security and order, protection, and welfare. On the other hand, public administrations are also accountable to citizens. Therefore, a key challenge is the human-centred design of new e-government and smart city services and answering key questions such as: - How can e-government or smart city services be designed to achieve sufficient usability and a positive user experience (especially with regard to trust, transparency, reliability) for all conceivable user groups? How can designers avoid that no one is excluded from government services and participatory platforms? - How can technologies such as information visualization, virtual reality, augmented reality, or conversational user interfaces contribute to human-centred e-government or smart cities? - How can e-government and smart city solutions be evaluated concerning usability and user experience? - How can services provide usable and human-centered applications while, at the same time, the regulatory framework needs to be correctly represented? - How can we harness the "bottom-up" creativity and innovative forces of civic hackers, citzen-led projects, and DIY initiatives, while also achieving the reliability and accountability of traditional "top-down" frameworks such as large IT or telecommunication cooperations? - How can we make citizens, public administration employees and other users curious about (or challenge them with) new civic technologies? - How can we educate citizens and public administration employees about e-government and smart city technologies and let them become active users or even active developers? - How can we enable citizens to actively control their level of participation, e.g., by enabling them to opt-in and opt-out of data collection and by letting them control their desired degree of privacy and anonymity? In this respect, several traditional problems from these communities such as efficient data storage, querying & indexing for enabling visual analytics, new ways for visual presentation of massive data, efficient interaction and personalization techniques that can fit to different user needs are revisited. The modern exploration and visualization systems should nowadays offer scalable techniques to efficiently handle billion objects datasets, limiting the visual response in a few milliseconds along with mechanisms for information abstraction, sampling and summarization for addressing problems related to visual information over-plotting. Further, they must encourage user comprehension offering customization capabilities to different user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences according to the analysis needs. Overall, the challenge is to offer self-service visual analytics, i.e. enable data scientists and business analysts to visually gain value and insights out of the data as rapidly as possible, minimizing the role of IT-expert in the loop. The BigVis workshop aims at addressing the above challenges and issues by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss, exchange, and disseminate their work. Data Physicalizations range from static 3D-printed artefacts to fully interactive dynamic bar charts that can update their physical form as a user interacts (see the dataphys website<http://dataphys.org/list/gallery/> for a list of examples). From a scientific perspective, this is a relatively new field of study that brings together researchers across Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Design, Engineering and Information Visualization. This technologically exciting project aims to understand the role and trade-offs of digital content in dynamic data physicalizations. You will design and construct a testbed that combines dynamic data physicalizations with Augmented Reality (AR) interfaces (such as the Microsoft Hololens). You will then explore the design space of digital/physical data display and human-data interaction, and empirically evaluate the resulting interfaces and interaction techniques to understand how mixed-reality data physicalizations can provide benefits over traditional data visualizations. Your work will lead to guidelines that will lay the foundation for the design of all future data physicalizations. You will publish your results at the top venues in HCI and Information Visualisation, including ACM CHI, ACM UIST, and IEEE VIS. The intent of this award is to recognize excellent young researchers in their early career and to highlight visualization research. Participants still needed for visualization recommendation performance study

Hi everyone, I am a graduate student in computer science, and we are conducting a user study to evaluate the performance of different data visualization recommendation techniques. We still need a couple more professional participants for our user study from the *industry* (Part-time students with an occupation in the industry are also welcome to sign up!). The user study only requires basic visualization or data analysis experience, such as experience with one of the following tools (or similar tools): Excel, R, SAS, Numpy/Pandas, Tableau, D3JS. In the study, you would interact with a visual analytic tool and complete 4 analysis tasks. [ Apologies for cross-posting ] The Emerging Analytics Center (EAC) at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock) offers a 2-year funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the areas of immersive visualization and interactive technologies. The position can be extended after the initial 2-year period up to an additional 2 years. We are seeking highly creative and motivated individuals that want to start their research career in immersive visualization at the EAC. Candidates need to have a strong background in interactive computer graphics or related fields, good programming skills, experience with current graphics APIs, and familiarity with visualization tools and/or game engines. Candidates must have a strong level of spoken and written English. They must be able to work both independently and in a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
