Overview The 28th IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces 2021 seeks poster submissions, which describe recently completed work, highly relevant results of work in progress, or successful systems and applications, in all areas related to virtual reality, including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and 3D user interfaces. Presenting a poster is a great way to get feedback on work that has not yet been published. A combination of local and remote poster presentations will be an integral part of the conference, with sessions for interactive discussion between presenters and attendees for at least two days, plus a fast-forward presentation track where authors can orally present a brief summary of their work to all conference attendees. Note that, in order to maintain interactive and exciting poster presentations, we require at least one presenter per accepted poster to attend the conference (in person or virtually). Submission Guidelines Poster submissions must be in English and anonymous. The submission must be in the form of a two-page summary paper with a maximum 100-word abstract. Supplemental material, such as a poster draft or videos may be submitted as well, but are not mandatory. All submitted materials must be in PDF format with embedded fonts. Two-page paper will be included in the proceedings and will be archived in the IEEE Digital Library, and therefore must be formatted using the IEEE Computer Society format described at http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera.html. Poster papers must be submitted through a special poster slot available at the online submission site - https://new.precisionconference.com/submissions. Supplemental materials can be uploaded to the submission site as well. Poster drafts and final posters should be in portrait format with a maximum size given by the A0 standard (841 x 1189 mm; or 33.1 x 46.8 in). This year, every accepted poster would submit a 30-second teaser video. This video would not have sound, but would have captions. The goal of the tutorials is to provide a venue for presenting research on focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges. Tutorials are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and experience on topics related to intelligent user interfaces, and the intersection between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Note: We encourage you to contact the chairs with your ideas (emails above), and work together to prepare an exciting proposal. We encourage proposals for a wide range of tutorials, including but not limited to: - "Hands-on" or "project-centric" tutorials around a specific problem or topic. - Tutorials on a specific topic relevant to IUI; for example, methods and approaches in HCI and/or AI, specific techniques or algorithms to develop intelligent user interfaces, etc. Tutorials will be held on the first day of the conference. We invite submissions of proposals for half-day (3 hours) or full-day (6 hours) tutorials. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the tutorial chairs. We encourage you to consider virtual and semi-virtual options for the tutorial in the submission. The organizers of accepted tutorials are responsible for producing a call for participation and publicizing it, such as distributing the call to relevant newsgroups and electronic mailing lists, and especially to potential audiences from outside the IUI conference community. Tutorial organizers are also required to set up their own website with information about the tutorial and the IUI 2021 web site will refer to this website. PROPOSAL FORMAT Tutorial proposals should be maximum 2 pages long and follow the formatting instructions at https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template. Please either use the Word interim template with Libertine fonts downloaded and embedded, or the LaTex sigconf template. The proposals should be organized as follows: - Name and title: A one-word acronym and a full title. - Description of tutorial topic: This description should discuss the relevance of the suggested topic to IUI and its interest for the IUI2021 audience. The aim of ETRA is to bring together researchers and practitioners from across fields with the common goal of continuing to move eye tracking research forward. The symposium presents advances and innovations in oculomotor research, gaze tracking systems, eye tracking applications, gaze-based interaction, and eye movement data analysis. We invite full and short papers in all areas of eye tracking research and applications, and welcome submissions from all domains, including visuomotor neuroscience, perception, cognition, and visualization. Papers must be original and not accepted previously for publication elsewhere. All submissions will undergo a double-blind review process assessing the originality and technical quality of the work as well as the relevance for eye tracking research and applications. Invitation to Attend: Machine Learning from User Interactions (MLUI) 2020 at IEEE VIS

This year, the third instance of the MLUI workshop will kick off the IEEE VIS conference on Sunday morning from 8:00-11:30 MDT. Attendance to the workshop is open to everyone and free with the accompanying registration for IEEE VIS (http://ieeevis.org) This year, we have two excellent keynote speakers to begin each session. In the first session, Michael Sedlmair will present "Machine Learning meets Visualization," discussing how the two fields can work together for mutual benefit. In the second session, Alvitta Ottley will present "Using Models and Predictions to Help Humans and Computers Click," discussing the current state and future of research in user modeling for data visualization. Each session will also contain shorter research talks, as well as some dedicated time for discussion. We briefly discuss these categories below. Although your main paper type has to be specified during the paper submission process, papers can include elements of more than one of these categories. Please see “Process and Pitfalls in Writing Information Visualization Research Papers” by Tamara Munzner for a more detailed discussion. *Technique papers* introduce novel techniques or algorithms that have not previously appeared in the literature, or that significantly extend known techniques or algorithms, for example, by scaling to datasets of much larger size than before or by generalizing a technique to a larger class of uses. The technique or algorithm description provided in the paper should be complete enough that a competent graduate student in visualization could implement the work, and the authors should create a prototype implementation of the methods. Relevant previous work must be referenced, and the advantage of the new methods over it should be clearly demonstrated. There should be a discussion of the tasks and datasets for which this new method is appropriate, and its limitations. Evaluation through informal or formal user studies, or other methods, will often serve to strengthen the paper, but are not mandatory. *System papers* present a blend of algorithms, technical requirements, user requirements, and design that solves a major problem. The system that is described is both novel and important, and has been implemented. The rationale for significant design decisions is provided, and the system is compared to documented, best-of-breed systems already in use. The comparison includes a specific discussion of how the described system differs from and is, in some significant respects, superior to those systems. For example, the described system may offer substantial advancements in the performance or usability of visualization systems or novel capabilities. Every effort should be made to eliminate external factors (such as advances in processor performance, memory sizes, or operating system features) that would affect this comparison. *Application/design study papers* explore the choices made when applying visualization and visual analytics techniques in an application area, for example relating the visual encodings and interaction techniques to the requirements of the target task. Similarly, application/design study papers have been the norm when researchers describe the use of visualization techniques to glean insights from problems in engineering and science. Although a significant amount of application domain background information can be useful to provide a framing context in which to discuss the specifics of the target task, the primary focus of the case study must be the visualization content. The results of the application/design study, including insights generated in the application domain, should be clearly conveyed. Describing new techniques and algorithms developed to solve the target problem will strengthen a design study paper, but the requirements for novelty are less stringent than in a technique paper. Where necessary, the identification of the underlying parametric space and its efficient search must be aptly described. The work will be judged by the design lessons learned or insights gleaned, on which future contributors can build. We invite submissions on any application area. *Evaluation papers* explore the usage of visualization and visual analytics by human users, and typically present an empirical study of visualization techniques or systems. Authors are not necessarily expected to implement the systems used in these studies themselves; the research contribution will be judged on the validity and importance of the experimental results as opposed to the novelty of the systems or techniques under study. The conference committee appreciates the difficulty and importance of designing and performing rigorous experiments, including the definition of appropriate hypotheses, tasks, data sets, selection of subjects, measurement, validation, and conclusions. The goal of such efforts should be to move from mere description of experiments, toward prediction and explanation. We do suggest that potential authors who have not had formal training in the design of experiments involving human subjects may wish to partner with a colleague from an area such as psychology or human-computer interaction who has experience with designing rigorous experimental protocols and statistical analysis of the resulting data. Other novel forms of evaluation are also encouraged. *Theory/model papers* present new interpretations of the foundational theory of visualization and visual analytics. Implementations are usually not relevant for papers in this category. Papers should focus on basic advancement in our understanding of how visualization techniques complement and exploit properties of human vision and cognition. Dear all, My lab at Harvard Medical School has openings for multiple postdoctoral fellows in visualization of biomedical data. This project is highly interdisciplinary and being conducted in close cooperation with clinical experts, providing an excellent opportunity for collaborative research.
