Dear colleagues, ACM ISS 2020 Doctoral Symposium Call for Participants! *ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ACM ISS 2020) <http://iss.acm.org/2020/>* is the premier venue for research in the design, development and use of new and emerging interactive surface technologies and interactive spaces. ACM ISS 2020 welcomes original, high-quality research and industry contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the area of interactive surfaces, interactive spaces and novel interface technologies. *The ISS Doctoral Symposium (ISS DS) <http://iss.acm.org/2020/authors/doctoral/>* provides Ph.D. students with the opportunity to meet and discuss their work with each other and a panel of experienced researchers in an informal and interactive setting. Participants can expect the chance to present their dissertation research in a supportive environment and to receive constructive expert and peer feedback on their research topics and possible career paths in both academia and industry. The Symposium aims to support community building by connecting beginning and established researchers. Each submission will be reviewed by the DS chairs to assess its suitability for the DS, as well as additional expert reviewers when necessary. Authors of accepted submissions will present their work in a dedicated session and registration will be free. *Submission* Every submission should include: an extended abstract - no more than six pages in pdf format according to ACM Master Article Submission Template, a poster design - A0 portrait format, also in PDF format, a still image and a 30-second preview video that will both be used to advertise the work before and during the conference. a short video (optional) of up to 5 minutes long and at most 100MB in size presenting the research displayed in the poster. You are encouraged to do so if this clarifies the work, as is often the case in ISS interfaces. PhD Students should submit an extended abstract that describes: the problem that the thesis aims to address; the broad approach and how it builds upon and goes beyond key relevant previous work; the work completed and the plan for the full dissertation work; open questions/issues for discussion and/or what you want to get out of participating in the symposium. Completed work may be presented as an overview or highlighting a particularly important part in depth. Submissions must include a poster design (A0 portrait format), also in PDF format. The doctoral symposium posters are intended for display along with the other conference posters, and so should follow the same guidelines as described here: ISS 2020 Posters. The optional video presenting the research displayed in the poster must be no longer than 5 minutes and must be less than 100 MB in size. Please make sure that your video is playable on standard PC and Macintosh computers. We recommend that you encode your video as an MP4 using the H.264 codec. We will provide a virtual demonstration area in which you will be able to showcase your best interactive experiences and commercial products during the ISS 2020 conference. In spite of the COVID-19 situation, our goal is to provide a highly interactive forum for lively discussions and hands-on experiences around the most exciting interactive technologies and installations. Virtual Demos ISS 2020 is going fully virtual because of COVID-19, resulting in modifications to the Call for Demos in previous years. Unlike in previous years, a video demonstration is required at time of submission a poster is not required as part of the submission. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Creative and innovative technologies and applications in interactive surfaces and spaces, including displays, input and sensing technologies, interaction techniques, shape-changing devices, computer vision applications, audio – speech interfaces, wearable devices, visualization techniques, interfaces for public spaces and more. Also demos from industry (i.e. commercial applications and products) are highly encouraged. What are the benefits? You will get the opportunity to perform an online demonstration of your exciting projects and ideas to experts from both academia and industry during the conference. Your submission will be published and indexed as an extended abstract in the ACM digital library. How will we evaluate? Demo submissions will be reviewed and selected by the demo chairs. Confidentiality of submissions is maintained during the review process. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference. Abstracts of invited demos from the papers track will not be reviewed. We will focus on interactive and exciting demos. We want to showcase interactive technologies from all over the world and create a highly exciting event. We thus encourage resubmission of existing exciting demos. Demonstrating during a virtual conference? Accepted demos will be demonstrated remotely by the authors to a live audience. At least one author is expected to present the demo during the times of the conference demo session and to interact with conference attendees. The virtual format of the demo session expands the capabilities of demo demonstrations in previous years, giving authors the opportunity to even demonstrate large-scale installations that could not have been brought to a conference venue. PREPARING THE SUBMISSION Every submission should include: A submission document using the ACM Master Article Submission Templates (single column), maximum 6 pages including references. SELECTION PROCESS Demo submissions will be reviewed by the ISS demos co-chairs for the suitability of ISS and this year’s virtual format. Due to the nature of this year’s conference format, submissions will be particularly evaluated on the quality of the accompanying video and the potential for remote demonstration. Review comments will be lightweight and justify the outcome. There will be no rebuttal phase. Novelty Resubmitting a demonstration shown at a previous venue is allowed. Authors are requested to mention that the work has been demonstrated at other venues in the PCS submission. The ISS 2020 poster program offers an engaging venue to present and discuss new and developing research. Posters provide the opportunity for researchers to get feedback on early-stage work and work-in-progress, to establish potential collaborations and to discuss the burning issues in ISS 2020 in an informal manner with the larger community during the interactive poster session. Call for Participation: GD Contest 2020 with Remote Live Challenge

Dear Colleagues, the 28th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization will be held online from September 16 to 18 due to the uncertainty regarding future travel and physical meeting restrictions caused by the Corona virus outbreak. Nevertheless, as has been tradition since 1994, the symposium will be accompanied by a Graph Drawing Contest, allowing all community members to demonstrate their graph drawing skills in a fun competitive setting. The contest has two parts: the Live Challenge and the Creative Topics. 1) Live Challenge Following popular tradition, a live challenge will be held the day before the symposium in a format similar to a typical programming contest. Teams are presented with a collection of challenge graphs and have approximately one hour to submit their highest scoring drawings. This year, the challenge focuses on minimizing the number of crossings in a straight-line upward drawing on a fixed grid. Teams may either draw the graphs manually, or use their own customized tools. This year, remote participation will be possible for both categories! Hrafnkels Saga: This is an Icelandic saga which tells of struggles between chieftains and farmers in the east of Iceland in the 10th century. The provided Hrafnkel Saga Network models relationships between the actants of the saga. This graph consists of 43 vertices and 117 edges. 2. K-Pop: K-pop, short for Korean pop, is an umbrella term for popular music originating from South Korea. The provided K-pop network models relations between Korean artists, bands (groups), and management & recording companies (labels). This is a larger graph with 4675 vertices and 5094 edges. In both cases, you may visualize the graph in any way you like. Submissions will be judged on a list of criteria that includes, but is not limited to, readability, aesthetics, novelty, and design quality. The weighting of the criteria might be different for the two graphs. The goal of the tutorials is to provide a venue for presenting research on focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges. Tutorials are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and experience on topics related to intelligent user interfaces, and the intersection between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Note: We encourage you to contact the chairs with your ideas (emails above), and work together to prepare an exciting proposal. We encourage proposals for a wide range of tutorials, including but not limited to: - "Hands-on" or “project-centric” tutorials around a specific problem or topic. - Tutorials on a specific topic relevant to IUI; for example, methods and approaches in HCI and/or AI, specific techniques or algorithms to develop intelligent user interfaces, etc. Tutorials will be held on the first day of the conference. We invite submissions of proposals for half-day (3 hours) or full-day (6 hours) tutorials. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the tutorial chairs. We encourage you to consider virtual and semi-virtual options for the tutorial in the submission. The organizers of accepted tutorials are responsible for producing a call for participation and publicizing it, such as distributing the call to relevant newsgroups and electronic mailing lists, and especially to potential audiences from outside the IUI conference community. Tutorial organizers are also required to set up their own website with information about the tutorial and the IUI 2021 web site will refer to this website. PROPOSAL FORMAT Tutorial proposals should be maximum 2 pages long and follow the formatting instructions at https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template. The proposals should be organized as follows: - Name and title: A one-word acronym and a full title. - Description of tutorial topic: This description should discuss the relevance of the suggested topic to IUI and its interest for the IUI2021 audience. Include a brief discussion of why and for which audience the tutorial is of particular interest. - Organizer(s): Names, affiliations, emails, and web pages of the organizer(s). Provide a brief description of the background of the organiser(s). Strong proposals normally include organizers who bring differing perspectives on the topic and are actively connected to the communities of potential participants. Also please provide a list of other tutorials organized by the organizers in the past. - Participants: A statement saying how many participants you expect and how you plan to invite participants for the tutorial. If possible, include the names of at least 10 people who have expressed interest to participate in the tutorial. -Tutorial format: A brief description of the format regarding the mix of events or activities, such as teaching activities, hands-on practical exercises, and general discussion. Call for Papers Special Issue "Interactive Big Data Visualization and Analytics" Big Data Research Journal, Elsevier (Impact Factor: 2.95) https://www.journals.elsevier.com/big-data-research/call-for-papers/big-dat… Information Visualization is nowadays one of the cornerstones of Data Science, turning the abundance of Big Data being produced through modern systems into actionable knowledge. Indeed, the Big Data era has realized the availability of voluminous datasets that are dynamic, noisy and heterogeneous in nature. Transforming a data-curious user into someone who can access and analyze that data is even more burdensome now for a great number of users with little or no support and expertise on the data processing part. Thus, the area of data visualization, visual exploration and analysis has gained great attention recently, calling for joint action from different research areas from the HCI, Computer graphics and Data management and mining communities. In this respect, several traditional problems from these communities such as efficient data storage, querying & indexing for enabling visual analytics, new ways for visual presentation of massive data, efficient interaction and personalization techniques that can fit to different user needs are revisited. The modern exploration and visualization systems should nowadays offer scalable techniques to efficiently handle billion objects datasets, limiting the visual response in a few milliseconds along with mechanisms for information abstraction, sampling and summarization for addressing problems related to visual information overplotting. Further, they must encourage user comprehension offering customization capabilities to different user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences according to the analysis needs. Overall, the challenge is to offer self-service visual analytics, i.e. enable data scientists and business analysts to visually gain value and insights out of the data as rapidly as possible, minimizing the role of IT-expert in the loop. ACM IUI 2021 2nd CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS In conjunction with the 26th International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI 2021) College Station, TX, USA April 13 - 17, 2021 http://iui.acm.org/ IUI 2021 is pleased to invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the conference. The goal of the workshops is to provide a venue for presenting research on focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges. Workshops will be held on the first day of the conference. We invite submissions of full-day (6 hours) and half-day (3 hours) workshop proposals on any of the conference topics (or related). This year we are particularly interested in workshops that have an interactive aspect. Preference will be given to workshops with interactive and hands-on sessions where participants can team up or work together towards the common goal of the workshop. We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshops, including but not limited to: - "Mini-conferences" on specialized topics; such workshops may have their own paper submission and review processes. - "Late breaking work" meetings; such workshops usually have a lighter review process (e.g. based on abstracts only). - "Hands-on" workshops around a specific problem or topic that may wish to ask participants to submit a position statement. - "Mini-competitions", challenges, or hackathons around selected topics with individual or team participation. == PROPOSAL FORMAT == Note: One of the keys to a successful workshop submission is to CONTACT THE CHAIRS WITH YOUR IDEAS (workshops2021(a)iui.acm.org) and work together to prepare an exciting proposal! Workshop proposals should be maximum 2 pages long and follow the standard sigconf format, using one of the Interim ACM templates available at http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html Please submit your proposal via the PCS 2.0 submission system (https://new.precisionconference.com) The proposals should be organized as follows: - Name and title: A one-word workshop acronym and a full title. - Description of workshop topic and goal: This description should discuss the relevance of the suggested topic to the IUI audience. Include a brief discussion of why and for which audience the workshop is of particular interest. - Organizers: Names, affiliations, emails, and web pages of the workshop organizers. This can be a single person or a group of people. Strong proposals normally include organizers who bring differing perspectives on the topic and are actively connected to the communities of potential participants. Please indicate the primary contact person and the organizers who plan to attend the workshop. - Previous history: List of previous workshops that were held on the topic including the conferences that hosted past workshops and the number of participants. Also please provide the list of other workshops organized by workshop organizers in the past. - Workshop program committee: Names and affiliation of the members of the (tentative) workshop program committee that will evaluate the workshop submissions. - Participants: A statement saying how many participants you expect and how you plan to invite participants for the workshop. We recommend the proposal to include the names of at least 10 people who have expressed interest to participate in, or contribute a paper to, the workshop. - Workshop format: A brief description of the workshop format regarding the mix of events such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, demonstrations, and general discussion. - Length: Full-day or half-day. - Proposal format: Workshop proposals should be maximum 2 pages long and follow the formatting instructions from (sigconf): http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html Additional guidelines: ---------------------- - Workshop proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the workshop chairs. - Organizers: We strongly encourage all of the workshop organizers to attend IUI and take part in their workshop. This can make the workshops more appealing for the participants and strengthen the discussion part. - Workshop summary: An extended abstract with a summary of the workshop goals and an overview of the workshop topics will be included in the ACM Digital Library for IUI 2021. - Workshop proceedings: At the convenience of the workshop organizers, we will arrange a joint volume of online proceedings for the workshop papers. Workshops should request the authors to submit papers in the ACM SIGCHI Paper Format. - Cancellation: Workshops with few submissions by January 3 2021 may be cancelled, shortened, merged with other workshops, or otherwise restructured. This will be done in consultation between the IUI 2021 workshop chairs and the workshop organizers. Additionally, we strongly encourage to have workshop organizers from different institutions and research communities, bringing different perspectives to the workshop topic. We welcome workshops with a creative structure that attracts various types of contributions and ensures rich interactions. The organizers of accepted workshops are responsible for producing a call for participation and publicizing it, such as distributing the call to relevant newsgroups and electronic mailing lists, and especially to potential audiences from outside the IUI conference community. Workshop organizers will maintain their own website with updated information about the workshops and the IUI 2021 web site will refer to the workshop site. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for experts (researchers and practitioners) from visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, image processing, computer vision, human-computer interaction, as well as experts from biology and medicine, jointly working on next-generation visual computing solutions for medicine, healthcare, and the biotechnology sector. This year’s workshop (already the 10th VCBM since its foundation in 2008) will be held during September 28 - October 1, 2020 in Tübingen, Germany. We are pleased that this year we accept the following types of posters: *) Original, application-oriented research posters that advance the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology, according to the general call that can be found athttp://www.vcbm.org/ <http://www.vcbm.org/>. *) Research overview posters summarizing biomedical visualization research on topics below. This is an excellent way to highlight, for example, the research carried out in the scope of a PhD project, to promote PhD direction discussions with experts, or to present activities of a specific research group. *) Research group overview posters presenting the current research work of an entire group or a research center. The scope of such a poster can also include upcoming funded projects and thus even indicate open vacancies. *) Posters describing an open research problem that may have been defined by a domain scientist (e.g., a physician or biologist). This is a unique opportunity to present an exciting research problem to a broad professional audience and to promote new collaborations. Suggested topics for posters include, but are not limited to: *) Visual computing solutions for medical applications like radiology, surgery, pathology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, etc., including medical education *) Visual computing solutions for applications that support biomedical research in systems biology, -omics research, molecular pathology, neuroanatomy, biomedical imaging, etc. *) Medical simulation and visual computing solutions that support new approaches in computational medicine, including also the uses of stereoscopy and haptics *) Visualization approaches for data from new or challenging imaging modalities including real-time imaging (e.g., ultrasound) *) Visual computing solutions in the context of the virtual physiological human Methods might include, but are not limited to: *) Visualization and analysis of all kinds of biomedical data (signals and images) *) Visualization, mining, and analysis of biomedical data collections, including cohort data *) Information visualization of medical data sets, e.g., electronic health records *) Computer models of biomechanical, physiological, and biochemical functions in living systems *) Fusion, analysis, and visualization of heterogeneous and/or multi-source data *) Multi-scale methods and data structures for large data *) Interaction and design of visual computing workflows in medicine and biology *) Data tracking and registration *) Data reconstruction and geometry extraction *) Real-time rendering and interaction with anatomy models == Information for Authors == EG VCBM 2020 continues the poster track to enable researchers to present their work in progress, minor improvements beyond the state-of-the-art, and the best results of the undergraduate student projects in the area of visual computing for biology and medicine. Accepted posters will be placed in the workshop area during the time of the event, and the program will feature a dedicated poster session where the authors have the opportunity to present their research and lead fruitful discussions with peer researchers to inspire future research and cooperation. == Submission Instructions == The submission to the poster track at EG VCBM consists of a ½ - 1 page abstract (using the poster submission template) including one picture. The posters abstracts will be reviewed by the poster conference chairs and the abstracts of the accepted posters will be included in the conference publications. Dear colleagues, ACM ISS 2020 Doctoral Symposium Call for Participants! *ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ACM ISS 2020) <http://iss.acm.org/2020/>* is the premier venue for research in the design, development and use of new and emerging interactive surface technologies and interactive spaces. ACM ISS 2020 welcomes original, high-quality research and industry contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the area of interactive surfaces, interactive spaces and novel interface technologies. *The ISS Doctoral Symposium (ISS DS) <http://iss.acm.org/2020/authors/doctoral/>* provides Ph.D. students with the opportunity to meet and discuss their work with each other and a panel of experienced researchers in an informal and interactive setting. PhD Students should submit an extended abstract that describes: the problem that the thesis aims to address; the broad approach and how it builds upon and goes beyond key relevant previous work; the work completed and the plan for the full dissertation work; open questions/issues for discussion and/or what you want to get out of participating in the symposium. Completed work may be presented as an overview or highlighting a particularly important part in depth. Submissions must include a poster design (A0 portrait format), also in PDF format. The doctoral symposium posters are intended for display along with the other conference posters, and so should follow the same guidelines as described here: ISS 2020 Posters. The optional video presenting the research displayed in the poster must be no longer than 5 minutes and must be less than 100 MB in size. Please make sure that your video is playable on standard PC and Macintosh computers. We recommend that you encode your video as an MP4 using the H.264 codec.
