Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to join our symposium on Explainable Artificial Intelligence, at AISB (Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behaviour), Falmouth, UK, April 16-18, 2019. Description AI systems are increasingly present in everyday society, from simple computer systems to agents such as autonomous vehicles or social robots. In this context, it is often noted that it is critical to understand how human users perceive such systems - in particular, the degree to which they understand how the system works, and what mental models they build of the underlying algorithms. "Explainable AI" thus refers to AI systems that behave or provide the necessary information so that their working becomes comprehensible to the human user. The overall term can, however, cover various sub-disciplines ranging from machine learning researchers seeking to understand the functionality of black-box networks over researchers in decision support systems working on system awareness to cognitive scientists seeking to understand how humans understand intentions and other mental states in other agents. List of Topics The purpose of the present symposium is to bring together researchers from all aspects of XAI, and to foster an exchange of the current state of the art while facilitating the development of connections between different subfields of XAI. This is therefore intentionally intended to be broad so as to facilitate a diverse symposium that can cover diverse facets of XAI. Example topics include (but are certainly not restricted to): - Human expectations of intelligent systems - Methods by which various types of intelligent systems can generate explanations that are in line with human expectations. - XAI systems’ design issues. - Evaluation of the effectiveness of such systems, methods and metrics. - Theoretical aspects of XAI. Dear VIS Community - The VEC is currently forming a committee to develop detailed recommendations for moving VIS to a unified area chairs model, along with a new governance structure to facilitate the model. This committee will have a significant impact in shaping the future of VIS. **We are seeking nominations of people to serve on this committee.** Members of the committee will be expected to participate in weekly meetings and to conduct follow-up homework between the meetings for the duration of approximately six months. Additionally, the committee will be tasked with working in an open and transparent way, including releasing progress reports on a regular basis to the community and soliciting feedback on ideas as they evolve. The committee will be kept small to facilitate agility and consensus. Dear Colleagues, We now invite submissions to our interactive CHI 2019 (http://chi2019.acm.org) workshop on Interaction Design and Prototyping for Immersive Analytics, held on May 5 in Glasgow, UK: http://immersiveanalytics.net <http://immersiveanalytics.net/> New immersive technologies present many opportunities for enhancing humans' experiences with data interaction, but also present many challenges, a subset of which are specific to the analytics domain. This interactive workshop is centered around a set of group prototyping sessions, aimed at identifying new approaches to existing design challenges. In addition to giving perspective on opportunities and difficulties faced by future designers, these exercises will also explore new prototyping methods and tools for the design of interactive data-centric interfaces. This part-day workshop aims to build new ties between the existing immersive analytics community with researchers across many disciplines of the CHI community.
