*** Please forward to anyone who might be interested *** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Posters and Demos: ACM IUI 2019 to be held in Los Angeles, CA, USA, March 17-20, 2019 http://iui.acm.org/2019/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACM IUI 2019 is the 24th annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community and serves as a premier international forum for reporting outstanding research and development on intelligent user interfaces. In 2019, IUI will be held in the Marriott Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles, CA from March 17th - 20th. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community, also accepting contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design or the arts. This year we especially encourage submissions on explainable intelligent user interfaces for IUI 2019. ** Why you should submit to ACM IUI ** At ACM IUI, we focus on the interaction between machine intelligence and human intelligence. While other conferences focus on one side or the other, we address the complex interaction between the two. We welcome research that explores how to make the interaction between computers and people smarter, which may leverage solutions from data mining, knowledge representation, novel interaction paradigms, and emerging technologies. We strongly encourage submissions that discuss research from both HCI and AI simultaneously, but also welcome works that focus more on one side or the other. The conference brings together people from academia, industry and non-profit organizations and gives its participants the opportunity to present and see cutting-edge IUI work in a focused and interactive setting. It is large enough to be diverse and lively, but small enough to allow for extensive interaction among attendees and easy attendance to the events that the conference offers, ranging from oral paper presentations, poster sessions, workshops, panels and doctoral consortium for graduate students. Demonstrations show implementations of novel, interesting, and important intelligent user interface concepts or systems. We invite submissions relevant to intelligent user interfaces and which address, but are not limited to, the topics of the conference. All submissions are intended to convey a scientific result or work in progress and should not be advertisements for commercial software packages. The page limit for demo papers is 2 pages (including references). Accepted demo papers will be presented as interactive demonstrations at IUI and published in the companion proceedings of the conference. Posters Posters provide an opportunity for sharing valuable last-minute ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. We invite submissions on all topics of the conference. All submissions should convey a scientific result or work in progress that is not yet ready to be published as a full length research paper at a refereed conference. Submitting a draft poster along with your submission is not required but recommended. The page limit for poster papers is 2 pages (including references). We are interested in candidates who will strengthen the department’s research and teaching program and help build strong connections to other relevant science communities. Candidates with an emphasis in any area associated with GIScience will be considered. A PhD degree completed before August 1, 2019, is expected. Excellence in teaching, research, and service is expected of professors employed by Penn State Geography, as is development of an externally funded research program. *CFP: Interactive Visualizations for Sustainability** **A special issue of Multimodal Technologies and Interaction Journal** **Deadline for manuscript submissions: 31 March 2019** **https://www.mdpi.com/journal/mti/special_issues/visualizations_sustainability* Rapidly increasing global consumption of natural resources demands for more efficient use, as well as for more sustainable management of energy, water, minerals, land and other natural resources. Human-centred technologies, tools and services can provide effective solutions to support sustainability in different domains. To create better awareness, and support human decision making, such technologies, tools and services should provide advanced interactive visualization capabilities to their users to allow them to monitor, manage, compare, or share and use data, with the aim of identifying patterns and supporting efficiency in the use of natural resources. This special issue will focus on interactive visualizations for sustainability-related applications, tools, games, and services in the private, public, and industrial sectors. IWISC 2019: 4th International Workshop on Interactive and Spatial Computing Guanajuato City, Mexico, May 9-10, 2019 Announcement The University of Texas at Dallas Institute for Interactive and Spatial Computing (UT-DIISC<http://cs.utdallas.edu/ut-diisc/>) and the University of Guanajuato are pleased to announce the 4th International Workshop on Interactive and Spatial Computing (IWISC 2019<http://cs.utdallas.edu/ut-diisc/iwisc-2019/>). Interactive and Spatial Computing focuses on the real-time interactions among humans and computers, and the spatial information, qualities, technologies, and relationships that influence those interactions. Considering this broad scope, Interactive and Spatial Computing involves a wide range of research activities from many disciplines like augmented reality, computational geometry, computer graphics, computer vision, geographic information systems, human-computer interaction, human-robot interaction, information visualization, mixed reality, multimedia, and virtual reality. These research activities enhance human knowledge and performance through numerous applications and domains, such as bioinformatics, education, entertainment, healthcare, manufacturing, rehabilitation, smart cities, therapy, and training. IWISC is a venue for researchers from this broad spectrum of applications and domains to convene and discuss the next generation of interdisciplinary ideas related to Interactive and Spatial Computing. Call for Papers The 4th International Workshop on Interactive and Spatial Computing (IWISC 2019) will address the challenges and opportunities faced in this broad and yet important discipline. We solicit high quality, original research submissions in all areas related to Interactive and Spatial computing, including, but not limited to, the following topics: * Augmented reality * Computational geometry * Computer graphics * Computer vision * Geographic information systems * Human-computer interaction * Human-robot interaction * Information visualization * Mixed reality * Multimedia * Virtual reality A Best Paper Award will be given for the most outstanding paper in terms of groundbreaking research, ingenuity, and importance. Submission Deadlines All deadlines are Anywhere on Earth (GMT/UTC‐12:00). * January 11, 2019: Paper submissions due * February 15, 2019: Notification of results * March 1, 2019: Camera-ready material due Submission Guidelines All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. Submissions should contain substantial scientific contributions to the field of Interactive and Spatial Computing. Each paper should be classifiable as one of the following: * Research papers should contribute state-of-the-art advances and provide results as evidence. * Application papers should explain how pre-existing ideas were applied to solve a novel problem. * System papers should indicate how developers integrated techniques and technologies to produce a novel system and provide evidence of the system’s effectiveness. All papers should be prepared in the ACM SigConf format. EuroVis 2019 Call for Full Papers With this call for papers, we invite submission of high-quality papers that will set the standard in the field of visualization and stimulate future trends. Accepted full papers will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the Eurographics Association, after a two-stage peer-reviewing process. All accepted papers will be presented orally at the conference. We encourage submissions from all areas of visualization and visual analytics. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: Techniques: novel algorithms, visual encoding methods, and/or interaction techniques for data analysis, exploration, or communication. All sub-areas of data visualization and visual analytics are welcomed, including high-dimensional, time-series, spatial, geographic, text, hierarchical, and network data. Techniques may be specialized for specific devices or form-factors (e.g., mobile or wall-scale visualization). Systems: new software frameworks, languages, or tools for visualization; systems for large-scale visualization; integrated graphical systems for visual analysis or interactive machine learning; collaborative and web-scale visualization systems. Applications & Design Studies: novel use of visualization to address problems in an application domain, including accounts of innovative system design, deployment and impact. We welcome diverse application areas, including the physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts, and humanities. Evaluation & Empirical Research: Comparative evaluation of competing visualization approaches; controlled experiments to inform visualization best practices; longitudinal and qualitative studies to understand user needs, visualization adoption, and use. Theory: models of visual encoding, interaction, and/or analysis tasks; implications from theories of perception, cognition, design, and/or aesthetics; methods for automated design or visualization recommendation. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in CGF latex style, including all images but excluding references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra content.
