Post-doctoral Position in Explainable AI and Visualization at NYU The Visualization, Imaging and Data Analysis (VIDA) Center has an opening for a post-doctoral associate to conduct innovative and exciting research in the area of explainablity and visualization for machine learning. The project is in collaboration with Capital One and it aims at developing novel methods and systems to support model understanding and validation. The position is available immediately but the start date is flexible. The CDVE2019 conference, the 16th International Conference on Cooperative Design, Visualization and Engineering will be held from October 6-9, 2019 in Mallorca, Spain. You are welcome to submit unpublished papers to the conference. The conference proceedings of CDVE2019 will be published by the LNCS - Lecture Notes in Computer Science by Springer and indexed by ISI(CPCI-S), Web of Science, EI, Scopus, DBLP, ACM Digital Library. Selected papers will be invited to fully expand to be included in special issues of a couple SCI indexed journals. The topics of the paper should be within the scope of the conference. ACM IUI 2019 (https://iui.acm.org/2019/index.html) is the 24th annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community and serves as a premier international forum for reporting outstanding research and development on intelligent user interfaces. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. This year we decided to offer two registration options. Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to join our symposium on Explainable Artificial Intelligence, at AISB (Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behaviour), Falmouth, UK, April 16-18, 2019. Description AI systems are increasingly present in everyday society, from simple computer systems to agents such as autonomous vehicles or social robots. In this context, it is often noted that it is critical to understand how human users perceive such systems - in particular, the degree to which they understand how the system works, and what mental models they build of the underlying algorithms. "Explainable AI" thus refers to AI systems that behave or provide the necessary information so that their working becomes comprehensible to the human user. The overall term can, however, cover various sub-disciplines ranging from machine learning researchers seeking to understand the functionality of black-box networks over researchers in decision support systems working on system awareness to cognitive scientists seeking to understand how humans understand intentions and other mental states in other agents. List of Topics The purpose of the present symposium is to bring together researchers from all aspects of XAI, and to foster an exchange of the current state of the art while facilitating the development of connections between different subfields of XAI. This is therefore intentionally intended to be broad so as to facilitate a diverse symposium that can cover diverse facets of XAI. Example topics include (but are certainly not restricted to): - Human expectations of intelligent systems - Methods by which various types of intelligent systems can generate explanations that are in line with human expectations. - XAI systems’ design issues. - Evaluation of the effectiveness of such systems, methods and metrics. - Theoretical aspects of XAI.
