VASPE'19: International Workshop on Visual Analytics in Supercomputing and Performance Engineering 2019 Mumbai, India, April 2019 Conference website: https://vaspe.gitlab.io Submission link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vaspe19 Both high performance computing (HPC) and performance engineering (PE) experts are facing the challenge of analyzing, comparing, visualizing, and reasoning about ever increasing volumes of performance-related data. While HPC typically deals with massively parallel simulation codes being executed on supercomputers, PE focuses on distributed, reliable software systems. Due to the scale of performance-related data and the open-ended nature of analyzing it, visualization (VIS) and data analytics are often the only feasible tools to comprehend, debug, and improve the performance behavior of systems and/or codes. This is becoming ever more important, since the scale of performance-related data keeps rapidly growing. However the research communities in HPC, PE, and VIS are mostly disjunct. VASPE '19 aims at gathering experts from (i) the HPC community, (ii) the PE community, and (iii) the VIS community in order to breed cross-community algorithms, techniques, and systems for analyzing and visualizing performance-related data. Workshop Topics Topics include, but are not limited to: • Scalable displays of performance data • Data models to enable scalable visualization • Graph representation of unstructured performance data • Presentation of high-dimensional data • Visual correlations between multiple data source • Human-Computer Interfaces for exploring performance data • Multi-scale representations of performance data for visual exploration • Data analytics of historical performance data • Machine learning or statistical techniques for data exploration Call for Papers We solicit 6–8 page full papers and 2–4 page short papers that focus on techniques at the intersection of the three communities HPC, PE, and VIS that either use visualization techniques to display large scale performance data or that develop new visualization or visual analytics methods that help create new insights. We welcome submissions presenting novel and experimental ideas as well as tool descriptions. Papers must be submitted as a PDF file in the ACM Standard proceedings format, and formatted for 8.5" x 11" (U.S. Letter). The 4-page and 8-page limits include figures, tables, and references. Papers will be peer-reviewed by members of the program committee and accepted papers will be published by ACM as part of ICPE 2019 proceedings. Accepted papers will also be presented during the workshop as a paper talk (~20 min) or a lightning presentation (~10 min). All papers must be submitted through EasyChair. These research activities enhance human knowledge and performance through numerous applications and domains, such as bioinformatics, education, entertainment, healthcare, manufacturing, rehabilitation, smart cities, therapy, and training. IWISC is a venue for researchers from this broad spectrum of applications and domains to convene and discuss the next generation of interdisciplinary ideas related to Interactive and Spatial Computing. Call for Papers The 4th International Workshop on Interactive and Spatial Computing (IWISC 2019) will address the challenges and opportunities faced in this broad and yet important discipline. This approach works well with sufficient high-quality meta-data or tagging. However, with the explosive growth of big data collections, it has become apparent that tagging new data quickly and efficiently is not always possible. Secondly, even if instantaneous high-quality data tagging were possible, there would still be many instances, where search by keyword query is problematic. For example, in the case of image retrieval it might be easier for a user to define their query if they are looking for an image of a cat, but how would they specify that the cat should be of a particular shade of ginger with sad looking eyes? A solution to these problems is active engagement of the user in the information retrieval loop, thus enabling the user to not only explore a given dataset more easily but also gradually direct their search to a more specific area of the search space. The aim of this workshop is to explore new methods and interface/system design for interactive data analytics and management in various domains, including specialised text collections (e.g. legal, medical, scientific), multimedia, and bioinformatics, as well as for various tasks, such as semantic information retrieval, conceptual organization and clustering of data collections for sense-making, semantic expert profiling, and document/multimedia recommender systems. The primary audience of the workshop is researchers and practitioners in the area of interactive and personalized system design as well as interactive machine learning both from academia and industry. IUI, with its focus on the intersection of HCI and AI, is a perfect venue where researchers from system/interface design community and the machine learning community can meet. Workshop Target Areas The workshop aims to solicit submissions in all areas of interactive data analytics and exploratory search including: - design, testing and assessment of interactive systems for data analytics - interactive data visualization for exploratory and investigative analysis - interactive classification and clustering of data - user-assisted curation and validation of the analysis process, and generation of data visualizations - user engagement in the semantic analysis process via suitable annotation and correction tools - study of the trade-off between accuracy of the results and user effort - personalization and user modeling related to interactive system design Submissions aimed at solving practical problems in specific application domains are especially welcome, including: - digital libraries - legal document management - personalized online learning systems - news media - biomedical data - multimedia collections - specialized image and video collections, e.g. medical images. TVX is the leading international conference for presentation and discussion of research into online video and TV interaction and user experience. The conference brings together international researchers and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, ranging from human-computer interaction, multimedia engineering and design to media studies, media psychology and sociology. We invite authors to submit Long & Short Papers, Workshop Proposals, Demos, Work-in-Progress, TVX in Industry and Doctoral Consortium submissions. The ACM Europe Council Best Paper Awards recognize authors of outstanding technical contributions to ACM conferences taking place in Europe. Awards at TVX will be given to acknowledge ground-breaking research, likely to shape the future of computing both in Europe and worldwide. Winners will be decided by the Program Committee and will receive a plaque and a 1000 Euro honorarium. == STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS == SIGCHI provides two opportunities for students to receive funding to attend TVX: the SIGCHI Student Travel Grant and the Gary Marsden Student Development Fund. *** Please forward to anyone who might be interested *** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Posters and Demos: ACM IUI 2019 to be held in Los Angeles, CA, USA, March 17-20, 2019 http://iui.acm.org/2019/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACM IUI 2019 is the 24th annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community and serves as a premier international forum for reporting outstanding research and development on intelligent user interfaces. In 2019, IUI will be held in the Marriott Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles, CA from March 17th - 20th. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community, also accepting contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design or the arts. This year we especially encourage submissions on explainable intelligent user interfaces for IUI 2019. ** Why you should submit to ACM IUI ** At ACM IUI, we focus on the interaction between machine intelligence and human intelligence. While other conferences focus on one side or the other, we address the complex interaction between the two. We welcome research that explores how to make the interaction between computers and people smarter, which may leverage solutions from data mining, knowledge representation, novel interaction paradigms, and emerging technologies. We strongly encourage submissions that discuss research from both HCI and AI simultaneously, but also welcome works that focus more on one side or the other. The conference brings together people from academia, industry and non-profit organizations and gives its participants the opportunity to present and see cutting-edge IUI work in a focused and interactive setting. It is large enough to be diverse and lively, but small enough to allow for extensive interaction among attendees and easy attendance to the events that the conference offers, ranging from oral paper presentations, poster sessions, workshops, panels and doctoral consortium for graduate students. Demonstrations show implementations of novel, interesting, and important intelligent user interface concepts or systems. We invite submissions relevant to intelligent user interfaces and which address, but are not limited to, the topics of the conference. All submissions are intended to convey a scientific result or work in progress and should not be advertisements for commercial software packages. The page limit for demo papers is 2 pages (including references). Accepted demo papers will be presented as interactive demonstrations at IUI and published in the companion proceedings of the conference. Posters Posters provide an opportunity for sharing valuable last-minute ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. We invite submissions on all topics of the conference. All submissions should convey a scientific result or work in progress that is not yet ready to be published as a full length research paper at a refereed conference. Submitting a draft poster along with your submission is not required but recommended. The page limit for poster papers is 2 pages (including references).
