EuroVis 2025: Call for workshops https://www.eurovis2025.lu/for-submitters/workshops We solicit workshops related to all areas of visualization. These informal workshops in EuroVis provide a setting for participants to discuss advanced topics in visualization, involve experts in the field, disseminate work in progress, and promote new ideas. Workshops at EuroVis are open to all registered attendees (“invitation only” workshops will not be approved). Important Dates * Proposal Submission Monday, November 11, 2024 * Notification Monday, November 25, 2024 All deadlines are at 11:59 pm (23:59) AoE Anywhere on Earth (AoE)<https://time.is/Anywhere_on_Earth>. Workshops should: * Emphasize emerging ideas, concepts, or technologies that are currently too nascent or too interdisciplinary for a full symposium; * Encourage information flow not solely from the presenters to the audience but rather engage the participation of all attendees, for example, through collective or small group discussions. Possible topics may include emerging or persisting problems, developing research agendas, networking to find common interests and possibilities for cooperation, interacting with domain experts involving analysis of their domain problems, etc. When choosing workshop topics to propose, please consider pre-approved workshops and try to avoid large overlaps: * EGPGV * EuroVA Note that workshops remain extremely well attended, but as new associated events and publication formats are introduced to EuroVis, the number of submitted papers may drop from previous years. So, a more interactive format (rather than one based mainly on presentations of submitted papers) is encouraged. Submission requirements Workshop proposals should include: * a title, * the contact details of the organizers, * a brief description of the organizers’ background, related publications, and research, * the planned activities (e.g., mainly talks, mainly interactive sessions, a mix), including an outline schedule for the program—workshops are strongly encouraged, though not required, to consider ways to engage all participants interactively, * the intended result and impact of the workshop, * a brief justification for why this workshop is necessary (e.g., why would the topic benefit from a more informal setting, in what ways is the topic emergent or a relatively poor fit for the main conference program, etc.), * a chosen measure for a successful CFP (e.g., number of submissions), possibly including an outline for a “backup policy” (e.g., changing the workshop format or voluntarily withdrawing the workshop before acceptance notification is sent, but should not require the workshop organizers to submit emergency papers to their own workshop), * a statement of the organization and the development of the list of participants (intended size, detailed selection procedures, and timeline for finalizing workshop presenters), * a list of any special technology needed, * the number of poster slots requested, if the workshop intends to feature posters, and * the proposed dates for the call for participation, author notification, and camera-ready deadlines (author notification must be before the early registration deadline for EuroVis; for inclusion of materials in the EG digital library and/or the downloadable proceedings, the camera-ready deadline must be 4 weeks prior to the conference). Because the number of workshop time slots is limited, half-day workshop proposals are strongly encouraged. However, well-justified full-day proposals will also be considered. Full-day proposals may optionally state what changes would be implemented to allow the workshop schedule to fit within a half day. If the proposed workshop is a follow-up of a previous workshop, please include a critical reflection of the prior workshop(s), including a discussion of the results and evidence of impact. The proposal should not exceed four pages. Please use the template file from https://www.eurovis2025.lu/fileadmin/files/egPublStyle-EuroVis_full-short-s… Attendance At least one author for each paper must register and attend the conference in person. Evaluation criteria The workshops aim to include various topics and a healthy mix of new and recurring events. Repeat submissions will be partially judged by the previous workshop's success. Workshop success will be judged subjectively, but popularity, research impact, visibility, and attendee feedback will all be considered. Specifically, the workshop proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria: * The potential for inspiring people, being influential, and opening new lines of research, * The degree to which the workshop provides a more interactive environment for participants—all things being equal, preference will be given to workshops that emphasize participant interaction, * The coherence of the proposed topic and the degree to which it would benefit from a workshop environment, * The ability to attract people and make them excited about the workshop, * The appropriateness with respect to EuroVis topics, * If this workshop has special needs, the feasibility of the proposed plan, including financial, logistics, scheduling, and coordination impact, is also important. The workshop chairs will balance the proposed topics to support the diversity of topics within EuroVis and complement the main program. Organizers should consider what steps they will take to encourage diverse participants in their workshop (e.g., a balance of experience, background, gender, etc.) to make participation as inclusive as possible. If accepted, workshops are required to prepare a short summary (50–100 words) for the workshop website and the web program. Workshop Support The workshop organizers will receive the following support from the EuroVis conference: * One complimentary 1-day registration for an invited speaker, * Room and AV support suitable for around 50 attendees, * Food and beverages for attendees: coffee breaks throughout the day, Sunday evening opening reception, space in the poster display area, if requested (from a limited pool set aside for standard workshops; available space depends on the specifics of the venue; early requests given priority over late requests), * PCS (Precision Conference Solutions) support for managing submissions and the review process, * EuroGraphics Digital Library publication of the workshop proceedings, if requested (considered archival). Workshops are intended to bring together researchers, developers, technology providers, practitioners, and users for a lively and interactive discussion of issues through an informal exchange of ideas and information. Workshops may target a specific application area, a specific research area, or a topic of general interest. Workshops should be more than just mini-conferences of paper presentations. Workshops may include, but are not limited to: - A focus on creating and exchanging new ideas and opportunities to meet new people - A balance of formal presentations with informal discussion and ideation - Emphasis on attendee participation and interactive discussions - Thought experiments and playing with ideas - Curated panels - Position papers - Live application development by both speakers and attendees - Inclusive VR and geographical diversity - Breakout groups and presentation of ideas generated by the groups - A summary session concluding with lessons learned, insights gained, and new ideas generated from the workshop - Continued discussion after the conference. Submission Guidelines Workshop submissions require a short two-page maximum proposal and a call for papers (CFP). - The Workshop Proposal is an internal document for decision-making purposes only. Organizers are welcome to email a PDF proposal to the Workshop Chairs at *workshops2025(a)ieeevr.org*, which should address the following: - Workshop title and acronym. - The goal of organizing the workshop. - Target audience and/or attendee prerequisites. - Has the workshop been organized before? - If yes, how many times has it been previously organized? - If yes, how many people attended the last time it was held? (Typical workshop rooms will have between 30 and 80 seats; if you seriously expect more, please indicate an estimation of attendees) - How long do you expect the workshop to be? Most workshops are half-day events, but full-day is possible, typically for established workshops with significant numbers of submissions. Please choose between these three options: Full day, could be full day or half day, half day. - Primary organizer name. - Primary organizer email. - Names, contact information, and short bios of all the organizers. - Other speakers and/or contributors. It is generally possible to use the main conference's Precision Conference system, but there is a cost attached to that, so we need to know how many workshops will need it to see if we can absorb the cost. If you plan to use the Precision Conference System, please mention it. - Are you planning on publishing your papers in the IEEE Digital Library? Workshops are optional to have papers that will be submitted to IEEE Digital Library. It is a powerful motivation for authors, but it will require adhering to some main conference deadlines, so you may have to do your reviews reasonably quickly to make it in time (see important dates above). - List any technical requirements for workshop hosting, including space, audio/visual, computer, and communication needs. Workshop rooms typically have a projector and presenter podium. If you need anything else (power for demos, tables for discussion, poster boards for posters, etc.), please include it here. We cannot promise to provide everything, but we will try as much as possible. - Do you have constraints on which day the workshop needs to be? This typically depends on the keynote speaker's availability. Please be flexible; everybody wants a Sunday slot to save a day of travel, but that's only possible for some workshops. - Are there any conflicts with other workshops? Overview The desire to replicate reality has been a long-lasting human endeavor. Images of the earliest cave drawings communicated about the important aspects of life at the beginning of human civilization. Paintings and sculptures aspired to capture the natural proportions and beauty of human form as well as spirit, while cinema made the static images move and accompany them with sound. In the late 20th century, the unprecedented speed in digital developments enabled the creation of three-dimensional worlds, which did not only surround the user, but also respond to their actions. Today, we are witnessing a rapid rise of artificial intelligence, conversational agents, and creative machines, the way reality is perceived is going through an unprecedented transformation. While offering immense creative possibilities, those tools also pose significant challenges by blurring the lines between fact and fiction, truth and fabrication. This digital storm is reshaping our relationship to facts and history, confronting our definition of reality, plausibility and realism. TOPICS and SCOPE As part IEEE VR 2025, we are delighted to invite you to the first edition of the ‘XR Gallery’ fostering bridges between people from the XR and Art communities through this art exhibition, titled "Edges of Reality: Questioning the Truthfulness of our Digital Realities". We aim to provoke creative thought and discussion between artists and researchers around the question of authenticity and truthfulness of digital experiences. By bridging the gap between the XR research community and the art world, we hope to inspire innovative perspectives and foster a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between technology and reality. Some of the potential questions which can be explored in this respect are: - How do scientific and technological advances confront and alter our common senses, changing our own perception of reality and of what is possible to imagine - Does my behavior change in a plausible simulated environment? - Can a software that behaves indistinguishably from a human be considered truly real? - What distinguishes our actual self from a simulated self constructed from our digital traces? - What would be the implication of a faithful simulation of an ancestor based solely on their private diaries or literary correspondence? - ... The exhibition will primarily focus on interactive XR art installations, while also welcoming non-XR art installations, such as performances or any other digital media questioning the nature of reality in our increasingly digital world. Accepted submission will be showcased at the dedicated space for the XR Gallery during the entire duration of the IEEEVR conference, excluding the days of workshops *(March 8-12 2025, Saint-Malo, France)*. Discussions are underway to arrange a public exhibition in the days following the conference. In our modern digital world, the role of maps has increased many folds, and maps in their various forms have become an underlying platform for countless tools, applications, visualizations, games, and other interactive systems, interfaces, and modes of interaction. Despite this increasing importance, and perhaps due to its transdisciplinary nature, research on map design, development, evaluation, and use is currently dispersed across many different disciplines and their specific publications, with hardly any of them focusing on maps as a basis for interfaces and interactions.This special issue aims to highlight the role of maps as a physical, theoretical, and metaphorical framework for interaction design and architecture. It provides a forum for the presentation of different perspectives in this emerging research area. * * *Topics of Interest** **+++++++++++++++* This special issue focuses on research related to the development of novel future map-based designs in different fields, including interaction design, user interface design, visualization, visual design, geographical information systems and cartography. EuroVis 2025: Call for workshops https://www.eurovis2025.lu/for-submitters/workshops We solicit workshops related to all areas of visualization. These informal workshops in EuroVis provide a setting for participants to discuss advanced topics in visualization, involve experts in the field, disseminate work in progress, and promote new ideas. Workshops at EuroVis are open to all registered attendees (“invitation only” workshops will not be approved). Important Dates * Proposal Submission Monday, November 11, 2024 * Notification Monday, November 25, 2024 All deadlines are at 11:59 pm (23:59) AoE Anywhere on Earth (AoE)<https://time.is/Anywhere_on_Earth>. Workshops should: * Emphasize emerging ideas, concepts, or technologies that are currently too nascent or too interdisciplinary for a full symposium; * Encourage information flow not solely from the presenters to the audience but rather engage the participation of all attendees, for example, through collective or small group discussions. Possible topics may include emerging or persisting problems, developing research agendas, networking to find common interests and possibilities for cooperation, interacting with domain experts involving analysis of their domain problems, etc. When choosing workshop topics to propose, please consider pre-approved workshops and try to avoid large overlaps: * EGPGV * EuroVA Note that workshops remain extremely well attended, but as new associated events and publication formats are introduced to EuroVis, the number of submitted papers may drop from previous years. So, a more interactive format (rather than one based mainly on presentations of submitted papers) is encouraged. Submission requirements Workshop proposals should include: * a title, * the contact details of the organizers, * a brief description of the organizers’ background, related publications, and research, * the planned activities (e.g., mainly talks, mainly interactive sessions, a mix), including an outline schedule for the program—workshops are strongly encouraged, though not required, to consider ways to engage all participants interactively, * the intended result and impact of the workshop, * a brief justification for why this workshop is necessary (e.g., why would the topic benefit from a more informal setting, in what ways is the topic emergent or a relatively poor fit for the main conference program, etc.), * a chosen measure for a successful CFP (e.g., number of submissions), possibly including an outline for a “backup policy” (e.g., changing the workshop format or voluntarily withdrawing the workshop before acceptance notification is sent, but should not require the workshop organizers to submit emergency papers to their own workshop), * a statement of the organization and the development of the list of participants (intended size, detailed selection procedures, and timeline for finalizing workshop presenters), * a list of any special technology needed, * the number of poster slots requested, if the workshop intends to feature posters, and * the proposed dates for the call for participation, author notification, and camera-ready deadlines (author notification must be before the early registration deadline for EuroVis; for inclusion of materials in the EG digital library and/or the downloadable proceedings, the camera-ready deadline must be 4 weeks prior to the conference). Because the number of workshop time slots is limited, half-day workshop proposals are strongly encouraged. However, well-justified full-day proposals will also be considered. Full-day proposals may optionally state what changes would be implemented to allow the workshop schedule to fit within a half day. If the proposed workshop is a follow-up of a previous workshop, please include a critical reflection of the prior workshop(s), including a discussion of the results and evidence of impact. The proposal should not exceed four pages. Evaluation criteria The workshops aim to include various topics and a healthy mix of new and recurring events. Repeat submissions will be partially judged by the previous workshop's success. Workshop success will be judged subjectively, but popularity, research impact, visibility, and attendee feedback will all be considered. Specifically, the workshop proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria: * The potential for inspiring people, being influential, and opening new lines of research, * The degree to which the workshop provides a more interactive environment for participants—all things being equal, preference will be given to workshops that emphasize participant interaction, * The coherence of the proposed topic and the degree to which it would benefit from a workshop environment, * The ability to attract people and make them excited about the workshop, * The appropriateness with respect to EuroVis topics, * If this workshop has special needs, the feasibility of the proposed plan, including financial, logistics, scheduling, and coordination impact, is also important. The workshop chairs will balance the proposed topics to support the diversity of topics within EuroVis and complement the main program. Organizers should consider what steps they will take to encourage diverse participants in their workshop (e.g., a balance of experience, background, gender, etc.) to make participation as inclusive as possible. If accepted, workshops are required to prepare a short summary (50–100 words) for the workshop website and the web program. Workshop Support The workshop organizers will receive the following support from the EuroVis conference: * One complimentary 1-day registration for an invited speaker, * Room and AV support suitable for around 50 attendees, * Food and beverages for attendees: coffee breaks throughout the day, Sunday evening opening reception, space in the poster display area, if requested (from a limited pool set aside for standard workshops; available space depends on the specifics of the venue; early requests given priority over late requests), * PCS (Precision Conference Solutions) support for managing submissions and the review process, * EuroGraphics Digital Library publication of the workshop proceedings, if requested (considered archival). EuroVis 2025 Call for Full Papers (https://www.eurovis.org/) TLDR: Please submit your papers! Abstracts due Nov 27, 2024 (Wednesday). New: Deadlines are now using timezone AoE (Anywhere on Earth) instead of GMT. With this call for full papers, we invite original submission of high-quality papers that will set the standard and stimulate future trends in the field of visualization and visual analytics. Accepted full papers will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the Eurographics Association, after a two-stage peer-reviewing process. All accepted papers will be presented orally at the conference. EuroVis 2025 (https://www.eurovis.org) will be held in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg on June 2-6, 2025. We encourage submissions from all areas of visualization and visual analytics. Suggested paper types and topics include, but are not limited to: • Techniques: novel algorithms, visual encoding methods, and/or interaction techniques for data analysis, exploration, or communication. All sub-areas of visualization and visual analytics are welcomed, including high-dimensional, time-series, spatial, geographic, text, hierarchical, and network data. Techniques may be specialized for specific devices or form-factors (e.g., mobile or wall-scale visualization). • Systems: new software frameworks, languages, or tools for visualization; systems for large-scale visualization; integrated graphical systems for visual analysis or interactive machine learning; collaborative and web-scale visualization systems. • Applications & Design Studies: novel use of visualization to address problems in an application domain, including accounts of innovative system design, deployment and impact. We welcome diverse application areas, including the physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts, sports, and humanities. • Evaluation & Empirical Research: Comparative evaluation of competing visualization approaches; controlled experiments to inform visualization best practices; longitudinal and qualitative studies to understand user needs, visualization adoption, and use. • Theory: models of visual encoding, interaction, and/or analysis tasks; implications from theories of perception, cognition, design, and/or aesthetics; methods for automated design or visualization recommendation. (http://cmci.colorado.edu/visualab/papers/19-CGA-ContributionTypes.pdf) SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS The maximum length for submitted papers to the full papers track is 10 pages (in Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) style, including all images and acknowledgements, but excluding references). References should not exceed 2 pages. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra content. Papers exceeding the maximum allowed number of pages will be automatically rejected. Submissions must be made using the Computer Graphics Forum style, using the conference LaTeX template for full papers (https://www.eurovis2025.lu/fileadmin/files/egPublStyle-EuroVis_full-short-s…) which includes a sample document explaining the required format LaTeX2e Style template. Authors have the option to submit their papers anonymously. In contrast to previous years, double-blind reviewing is optional, not required: authors may choose to disclose their identities to the reviewers. The reviewing process does not consider anonymity as a factor. The process will attempt to preserve anonymity of authors of anonymized submissions. However, the program committee, which is responsible for half of the reviews, will know the authors of submissions reviewed by them. This is required for selecting reviewers without conflict of interests. Please take note that submissions may be checked for plagiarism. Authors have the option of submitting additional material with their submissions. Supplementary materials, such as videos and supporting data, are encouraged. For papers that have previously been reviewed for other venues and have been rejected or withdrawn, the authors are strongly encouraged to provide the original submission with a cover letter describing the changes they have made to comply with reviewers' comments and requests. All full papers accepted to EuroVis appear in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, containing the conference proceedings, and will appear at the same time in the Eurographics digital library.
