CALL FOR SUBMISSION: Dear All, we invite submissions for the IEEE VIS<https://ieeevis.org/> Workshop on Visualization Education, Literacy, and Activities in October 2023 in Melbourne, Australia. https://ieee-eduvis.github.io WORKSHOP GOALS: The workshop intends to bring together scholars to share research and experiences and to discuss activities, teaching methods, and research challenges. With this workshop, we want to achieve the following goals: * build an international forum and an interdisciplinary community around teaching data visualization, open to researchers, students, and practitioners outside the traditional VIS community * share research on visualization literacy, education and teaching,, and practices * collect, test, and systematize learning activities * discuss best practices and challenges concerning visualization education and literacy SCOPE OF TOPICS: The workshop topics include, but are not limited to: * Visualization literacy * Learning goals and learning methods * Evaluation methods and learning analytics * Educational tools * Visualization activities * Pedagogy in visualization * Teaching in different scenarios (onsite, online, hybrid) * Reflective and research practices * Understanding and teaching to diverse audiences (e.g., children/adult learning, data journalists/data scientists/computer scientists/designers) * Guidelines, strategies, and guidance for education * Debate and discussions on visualization guidelines and well-established knowledge * Knowledge dissemination * Challenges and personal experiences * Informal learning * Experiential learning (hands-on learning & physicalization) * Visualizations for public education (e.g., health education, science communication) * Engagement with visualizations * Teaching approaches that encourage creativity and design critique * Accessibility of visualization learning resources SUBMISSION: The workshop accepts two types of submissions: * Research papers: authors are encouraged to submit a paper of length proportional to its contribution (submissions are expected to be minimum of 2 pages to a maximum of 8 pages excluding references, intended for publication through the IEEE DL) * Activities: practical reports that describe how an activity is conducted and how it could be reused by others and in other contexts; these activity reports will be published on the workshop website (not for publication in IEEE DL). Research papers must follow the formatting guidelines for IEEE VIS TVCG Journal submissions<https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/publications/journal>. We will use the Precision Conference System (PCS)<https://new.precisionconference.com/vgtc> for the submission and reviewing process. At least one author per accepted paper must register for IEEE VIS and present the work at the workshop, which will take place on 22 or 23 October 2023 in Melbourne, Australia. We would like to invite you to submit your research to VDS'23, co-located with IEEE VIS 2023 in Melbourne Australia. See additional submission information below: *VDS Call for Participation* We encourage you to submit original work that emphasizes the role, application, and impact of visualization in data science. Accepted submissions have the opportunity to present at VDS IEEE VIS <http://ieeevis.org/year/2023/welcome>, and will be archived in the IEEE Xplore digital library (associated publishing fees may apply). This event accepts full and short paper submissions for talks. Full Papers (up to 8 pages) Paper submissions should describe the role, application, and impact of visualization in data science. We would like to particularly encourage papers that cross disciplinary boundaries and show how visualization in data science can be a catalyst for discovery. Accepted papers will be archived in the IEEE Xplore digital library (associated publishing fees may apply). In addition, we plan to recommend extended versions of selected papers in a special issue of the journal, IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). Papers that integrate visualization with any stages of the data science pipeline (collecting data, cleaning data, mining data, exploring data, and communicating data) would be welcome as submissions to VDS. Short Papers (up to 4 pages) We also accept short papers, with similar themes as described in the Full Paper track above. However, we will not recommend extended versions of the short papers to IEEE TVCG due to their shorter length. Review Process (Double blind) Paper submissions will be managed by the Program Chairs and sent to the Program Committee to evaluate the work’s novelty and significance. Your work reviewed via a double-blind process; to do this, simply be sure to exclude all identifying information in the submitted manuscript file, ensuring that the reviewers will not know the identity of the authors. Otherwise, the review process will be single-blind, i.e., the reviewers will know the identity of the authors, but the authors will not know the identity of the reviewers. The Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow. The appointment is a 12-month position, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year, and will commence on August 1, 2023. Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field on or before August 1, 2023. This position is part of a collaboration between the Computer Science department at American University, the Environmental Science department at American University, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The successful candidate will become a part of an interdisciplinary team working to visualize global seafood trade data to understand when global seafood trade either improves or threatens food and nutrition security. The project aims at developing novel methods and systems to support the construction and analysis of a global seafood trade network database to advance human-environmental research. The focus of this postdoctoral fellow position at American University will be in analyzing geographic network flow datasets and delivering novel and interpretable representations on the web. Candidates must have a strong programming background. Requirements: • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical field. • Strong background in interactive data visualization and analysis. • Expertise in JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and other technologies supporting website development. • Experience with server-side web technologies, such as NodeJS and Flask, is preferred • Experience with online databases, especially network database schema (e.g., Neo4J), is preferred • Experienced in designing and implementing empirical user studies. • Experienced with quantitative research methods. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse interdisciplinary team. • Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor undergraduate students. • Excellent written and oral communication. • Research experience in spatial data analysis and/or GIS technologies is preferred. Dear colleagues, this is the Call for Papers for the Workshop on Visual Analytics in Healthcare (VAHC) (in conjunction with IEEE VIS 2023) Website: www.visualanalyticshealthcare.org The submission deadline is July 17, 2023, creating an opportunity to showcase late-breaking research results on Visual Analytics in Healthcare. CALL FOR PAPERS: ---------------- The 2023 Workshop on Visual Analytics in Healthcare (VAHC 2023) is the 14th annual workshop that provides an opportunity for participants to discuss state-of-the-art interactive visual data analysis techniques and review how such techniques can be applied to healthcare data. The primary objective of the workshop is to bring together leading VIS designers, scientists, medical experts, and visionaries to discuss: a) interactive data visualization techniques that can be applied to healthcare data, b) areas of healthcare that need more attention from visualization and visual data analysis research, and c) emerging research trends, visualization techniques, software applications, benchmarks, and open datasets. The workshop will enable presenters to showcase their ongoing work through oral presentations and system demos, either as video supplemental material or live demos during the workshop to be arranged with the organizers for maximum visibility. In years past, demos of prototype and/or production visual analytics software have been particularly well received, and paper submitters are encouraged to submit a companion demo proposal. BEST PAPERS: ---------------- VAHC assigns Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards. The awards entail a certificate and recognition on the VAHC website. This year, we also plan to invite authors of high-quality papers to submit a revised and extended version to an internationally recognized scientific journal (t.b.a. soon). The topic of this special issue will be “Interactive Visualization of Health Data for Digital and Personal Health”. The review process will seek to assign the same reviewers for previously accepted VAHC papers. Watch out for details in our second call for papers. Dear Members of the VIS Community, we are organizing a panel “The Future of Interactive Data Analysis and Visualization” at EuroVis, on Wednesday June 14, 11:00-12:30. Further, VIS is currently facing exciting times, with great changes and trends within and outside the community. We are happy to announce that the 8th edition of VIS4DH — the Workshop on Visualization for the Digital Humanities — will take place as part of [IEEE VIS 2023](http://ieeevis.org/year/2023/welcome) in Melbourne, Australia. For 7 years now, the VIS4DH workshop has brought together researchers and practitioners from the fields of visualization and the humanities to discuss new research directions at the intersection of visualization and (digital) humanities research. The general aim is to foster productive collaborations that mutually advance all fields involved. This year VIS4DH is taking inspiration from the conference’s host country by focusing on storytelling and narrative. Like other forms of communication, visualizing data is a way of telling stories. Just presenting data is not enough: it is also important to structure, sequence, and engage with the information being presented. You can contribute to VIS4DH 2023 in two ways - you can submit to the [Paper track](https://vis4dh.dbvis.de/cfp/#papers) (with an option to publish your work at IEEE Xplore), or you can submit to the [Exhibits & Provocations track](https://vis4dh.dbvis.de/cfp/#provocations). ChinaVis Poster Program aims to promote communication between scholars in visualization with interactive and dynamic presentation on the latest results and ideas of visualization research. The ChinaVis 2023 Poster Program encourages the submission of any work related to visualization, especially those that have not been officially published and are in progress, or published that can trigger new thinking through visualization. The summary can be written in either Chinese or English. The summary needs to include an introduction of the research motivation, results, findings, illustrations, and a discussion of the broader impact to application domains. It is not necessary to include a comprehensive list of references, but it is required to cite the most relevant literature in the 2-page summary. In addition, we highly recommend the authors to include a video that highlights the research work. The video submission can be made by including an online link to the video. The orientation of the poster must be portrait (taller than wide), and the dimension may not exceed A0 paper size (841 mm x 1189 mm / 33.1 in x 46.8 in). The language can be either Chinese or English. The design sketch (in PDF format) must be submitted together with the two-page summary. **Important Dates** • Submission deadline: Jun. 26, 2023 • Notification of acceptance: Jul. 10, 2023 • Final submission of camera ready versions: Jul. 17, 2023 All deadlines are at 23:59 Beijing Time. **Poster Presentation** At least one author of each poster should be registered for the conference and be available at the poster to discuss their work during the poster session. The authors must print the poster and hang the poster at the designated location at the conference venue. During the poster session, the authors should plan to present their work and discuss with attendees.
