The election period will begin on November 15, 2021 and will remain open for 30 days until December 15, 2021. This webpage contains information about the candidates, instructions for becoming eligible to vote (and checking eligibility), and the role of the VGTC and the VGTC Chair. The VGTC is the Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee, the governance body that oversees and sponsors all IEEE visualization and virtual reality conferences including VIS, VR, ISMAR, Pacific Vis, LDAV, BioVis, and EuroVis (as a co-sponsor). The VGTC is the main interface for these research communities with the IEEE Computer Society, and also maintains close ties with the publications TVCG (Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics) and CG&A (Computer Graphics and Applications). The VGTC fulfills many important roles including: approval and oversight of conferences, symposia, and workshops; oversight of publications through interactions with the IEEE CS Publications Board; getting involved in policy and budget decisions at the IEEE CS-level that affect the research community; and awarding the IEEE VGTC Awards<https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/award-criteria/>. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE VGTC CHAIR? The VGTC Chair directs the VGTC and oversees the VGTC budget while also advocating to the upper levels of IEEE on policy decisions. The VGTC Chair is the only elected position within VGTC that is determined directly by the membership. The Chair has the authority to directly appoint many positions including most of the voting members of the VGTC Executive Committee, VIS Executive Committee, and the VIS, VR, and ISMAR steering committees. After the Chair term ends, the Chair joins other previous Chairs on the VGTC Executive Committee as a VGTC Director. Subjects Needed for a Visualization Study

Hello All, Are you interested in participating in cutting edge research on state-of-the-art visualization systems? Then please consider participating in our online user study! We are conducting an online study to measure the relationship between creativity and insight during data exploration. We are seeking out participants for a one-time 55-minute study (no more than 1.5 hours) that will require you to perform data exploration using industry standard business analytics tools. In the session, you will use an analytics tool to explore a dataset, and complete a series of surveys to measure creativity, as well as a demographic survey This is an opportunity to be an active contributor to current and future data science research. Participation is completely voluntary and the experience and data you share will be anonymous. Personal demographic data, answers to survey questions, and interaction logs will be collected, anonymized, and shared as a public resource for data science research. To participate in this study you must: 1) Be 18 or older 2) Have at least basic visualization or data analysis experience such as with Excel, Tableau, JupyterLab, or Vega-Lite. In July 2020, the University established the Data Institute for Societal Challenges (DISC) to grow convergent data-enabled research to solve global challenges. To solve challenging problems, we need to team these expertise together for effectiveness, reliability, efficiency, and adoption of many data-driven solutions. This area is cross-disciplinary and we seek a senior faculty member with expertise in one or more of human-computer teaming, visualization, infovis, visual analytics, human-machine interaction, decision theory, HCI, human factors and industrial engineering, or cognitive psychology. Gentle reminder: EuroVis 2022 Call for Papers, abstract deadline coming up. When submitting your paper under http://new.precisionconference.com/, please select "Eurographics" (*not* VGTC) in the first box, and then EuroVis 2022 in the second box. With this call for papers, we invite submission of high-quality papers that will set the standard and stimulate future trends in the field of visualization and visual analytics. Accepted full papers will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the Eurographics Association, after a two-stage peer-reviewing process. All accepted papers will be presented orally at the conference. EuroVis 2022 ( https://conferences.eg.org/eurovis2022/) will be held in Rome, Italy on June 13-17, 2022. We encourage submissions from all areas of data visualization and visual analytics. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS The maximum length for submitted papers to the full papers track is 10 pages (in Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) style, including all images, but excluding references). Submissions must be made using the Computer Graphics Forum style, using the conference LaTeX template for full papers. A LaTeX style sheet and overleaf template will be provided as well as a sample document explaining the required format. Authors have the option to submit their papers anonymously. In contrast to previous years, double-blind reviewing is optional, not required: authors may choose to disclose their identities to the reviewers. The reviewing process does not consider anonymity as a factor. The process will attempt to preserve anonymity of authors of anonymized submissions. As per our charter, his replacement is voted upon by the VGTC community (*see details below) in an election that will begin on Nov 15th. Paul, VGTC Secretary (on behalf of the VGTC) ========== VGTC Chair Election 2021 The Visualization and Computer Graphics Technical Committee (VGTC) is electing a new chair and you are invited to cast your vote. The election period will begin on November 15, 2021 and will remain open for 30 days until December 15, 2021. As outlined in the VGTC Charter, the new Chair’s term is for two (2) years, nominally beginning July 1. This webpage contains information about the candidates, instructions for becoming eligible to vote (and checking eligibility), and the role of the VGTC and the VGTC Chair. CANDIDATES As per the VGTC charter, the Directors and current VGTC Chair nominated two candidates. The Directors solicited names and encouraged people to apply, sometimes by directly approaching potential candidates at workshops. The VGTC is the Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee, the governance body that oversees and sponsors all IEEE visualization and virtual reality conferences including VIS, VR, ISMAR, Pacific Vis, LDAV, BioVis, and EuroVis (as a co-sponsor). The VGTC is the main interface for these research communities with the IEEE Computer Society, and also maintains close ties with the publications TVCG (Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics) and CG&A (Computer Graphics and Applications). The VGTC fulfills many important roles including: approval and oversight of conferences, symposia, and workshops; oversight of publications through interactions with the IEEE CS Publications Board; getting involved in policy and budget decisions at the IEEE CS-level that affect the research community; and awarding the IEEE VGTC Awards. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE VGTC CHAIR? The VGTC Chair directs the VGTC and oversees the VGTC budget while also advocating to the upper levels of IEEE on policy decisions. The VGTC Chair is the only elected position within VGTC that is determined directly by the membership. The Chair has the authority to directly appoint many positions including most of the voting members of the VGTC Executive Committee, VIS Executive Committee, and the VIS, VR, and ISMAR steering committees. After the Chair term ends, the Chair joins other previous Chairs on the VGTC Executive Committee as a VGTC Director. The successful candidates will contribute to “Narrating Complexity: Exploring Multi-Actor Timelines”, a collaborative project between King’s College London and the University of Oxford, funded by EPSRC. Project overview: “Narrating Complexity” is a multi-disciplinary project, with the ambitious goal of advancing the state-of-the-art in static and interactive displays of multi-actor timelines – that is datasets where a long series of individual events are captured, involving many separate actors interacting across time. This project will address the technical challenges involved in the formal definition of such timelines, drawing on two separate datasets to capture the underlying similarities between them – one taken from social media such as Twitter and Facebook – and the other from formal decision-making processes involving negotiation, for example, legislative assemblies (as described in the Quill Platform https://www.quillproject.net/) This project is conducted in collaboration with the Quill Project at the University of Oxford. The Quill Project, which provides use cases for the project such as the formal discussions of a legislative setting (for example, the European Union Withdrawal Acts (Brexit legislation)). The candidate will be responsible for conducting research around data visualization to aid in the understanding and presenting time-sequence data, particularly data consisting of many actors interacting over a long period. Tasks will involve structuring a design space, designing visualizations, developing compression and filtering algorithms of timelines, developing a framework and software for human-in-the-loop interactive visual analytics that will improve comprehension, analysis, and story-presentation of the information captured both from social media and data sets derived from formal decision-making processes. The candidate will collaborate with other RAs working on the project and may be involved in the co-supervision of Ph.D. and Master's students.
