It provides an international forum for the exchange between those fields, to present advances in the state of the art, identify emerging research topics, and together define the future of these exciting research domains. CALL FOR WORKSHOPS & SPECIAL SESSIONS IEEE AIVR 2020 invites proposals for workshops and special sessions to be held on either of the conference dates (Dec 14-16). Workshops offer a chance to discuss topics related to AR/VR and AI more focused, explore new research directions and novel applications, and provide excellent opportunities for networking. They will run in parallel to the afternoon program of the conference. Special sessions on any topic related to the conference will take place as part of the main technical program and can feature paper presentation, invited and keynote talks, panels, or any other kind of suitable presentation. Duration should be about the same as a regular paper session. Accepted workshop papers and special session papers will be published in the conference proceedings by IEEE Computer Society Press and inculded in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Software visualization is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing on theories and techniques from information visualization and computer graphics and applying these in the software engineering domain. The VISSOFT conference is a venue for publishing and discussing research related to software visualization. VISSOFT brings together a community of researchers from software engineering, information visualization, computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and data science to discuss theoretical foundations, algorithms, techniques, tools, and applications related to the visualization of software. VISSOFT 2020, co-held with ICSME 2020, encourages a variety of submissions that address outstanding challenges in software systems using visualization. This includes technical papers, empirical studies, applications, case studies, and papers that present novel ideas and tools. ====================================== TOPICS OF INTEREST - Innovative visualization and visual analytics techniques for analysis of software engineering data. This includes source code, dependencies, repositories, developer social networks such as StackOverflow and GitHub, mobile app reviews, documentation, runtime logs, and DevOps data. - Visualization to support software development activities, including design, requirements engineering, program comprehension, software testing, and debugging. - Interaction techniques and algorithms for software visualization. - Visualization-based techniques in software engineering education. - Integration of software visualization tools with development environments. - Empirical evaluation of software visualizations, including eye tracking. - Industrial experience with using software visualization. - Applications of new technologies to enhance software visualization, including virtual reality, augmented/mixed reality, gamification, and artificial intelligence. - Analytical approaches to understand software-related aspects based on data science concepts. We solicit papers that present original, unpublished research results. Papers will be rigorously reviewed by an international program committee. In addition to technical papers, VISSOFT features a New Ideas or Emerging Results (NIER) track and a Tool Demonstrations (TD) track. All accepted submissions will appear in the conference proceedings and the IEEE Digital Library. ====================================== SUBMISSION TYPES **Technical papers**: A technical paper contribution must describe an in-depth and mature research result relevant to software visualization. The content of a technical paper can be at a maximum 10 pages long (including all figures, tables, and appendices). However, the 10 page limit does not include the bibliography, which is limited by two additional pages. The submission of a video (up to 5 minutes in length) to accompany the paper is highly encouraged to show interaction possibilities. Authors who wish to submit a video can submit the video together with their paper if the size of the video is smaller than 50 MB, otherwise a URL to the video should be provided. Both NIER and TD contributions have a page limit of 5 (including bibliography). NIER contributions describe work-in-progress and preliminary exciting results. Authors are encouraged to include open questions and even provocative hypotheses to get early feedback on their research ideas. A sound evaluation is not required for NIER contributions. One of the goals of the NIER Track is to foster collaboration among different research groups. Tool Demonstrations describe the design or actual utilization of software visualization tools, with a focus on the architecture of the tool or its use to gain new insights. During the conference, we will organize an informal tool demonstration session where authors of TD papers are requested to demonstrate their tools. Clinical guidelines are documents laying out specific diagnosis and treatment procedures and the project aims to facilitate doctors browsing and creating guidelines about Covid-19 for their hospital in an environment with quickly updating information and policies. Our effort is part of a larger UK-government funded project including partners in Natural Language Processing (NLP), the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary <https://www.nhslothian.scot/GoingToHospital/Locations/RIE/Pages/default.aspx>, and the Roslin Institute <https://www.ed.ac.uk/roslin>. MLVis 2020: Machine Learning Methods in Visualisation - Call For Papers https://www.tuni.fi/mlvis2020/ MLVis 2020 will be a co-located workshop at EGEV2020 - Eurographics & EuroVis 2020. It aims to bring Machine Learning and Visualization researchers together in order to exchange research ideas. We solicit short papers on machine learning methods in visualisation, from both the machine learning and visualisation communities, addressing how the two technologies can be used together to provide greater insight to end users. Due to the coronavirus situation, EGEV2020 and the MLVis 2020 workshop will be arranged online based on the Zoom tool. Due to the disruption, we have extended the submission, notification, and camera-ready deadlines. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, and software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 25 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. GD 2020 will take place September 15-18, 2020, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters, and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. PAPERS ------ We invite authors to submit papers describing original research of theoretical or practical significance to graph drawing and network visualization. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of two distinct tracks described below. Papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms • Geometric and topological graph theory • Computational topology of graphs on surfaces • Geometric network design and optimization • Geometric computing Track 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as the development of network visualization systems and interfaces in different application areas. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Visualization of graphs and networks in real world applications, including big data analysis • Engineering of network visualization algorithms and systems • Experimental results in graph theory and algorithms • Benchmarks and experimental studies of network visualization systems and user interfaces • Cognitive studies on graph drawing readability and user interaction • Interfaces and methods for interacting with graphs Authors of applied papers will have the opportunity to show a demo of their software/system during the conference. SHORT PAPERS ------------ In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers, describing theoretical or applied contributions of shorter length. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. SUBMISSION FORMAT ----------------- All submissions must be formatted using the LaTeX style file for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. To promote inclusion of more figures in the submitted papers, submission will have a strict number of lines limit and the possibility to have one page more compared to previous years. REGULAR PAPERS HAVE AT MOST 400 lines (excluding references and figures) AND AT MOST 13 PAGES (excluding references). Short papers have at most 200 lines (excluding references and figures) AND at most 7 pages (excluding references). The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. If this information does not fit within the page limits, the authors should include it in a clearly marked appendix, whose length is not constrained and which the reviewers may read at their own discretion. All submissions will be handled through EasyChair at the web site : https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=gd2020 POSTERS & CONTEST ----------------- Submissions of posters on graph drawing, network visualization, and related areas are solicited. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to 2 pages in the LNCS style) that must be submitted together with the poster itself. Details about the traditional Graph Drawing Contest held at the conference are provided on the conference web site. PUBLICATION ----------- All accepted papers (including the two-page poster abstracts) will appear in the conference proceedings, published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. The LNCS proceedings will be made freely accessible to the GD community upon publication and openly accessible to anyone after four years. Authors will be required to submit their accepted papers to the arXiv repository, in order to provide immediate and unrestricted open access to them. The self-archived arXiv papers shall consist of the LNCS proceedings version (identical, except for possibly changed references to the appendix resp. the arXiv version) plus an optional clearly marked appendix. Subsequent submissions of revised versions of the paper to the arXiv (known as arXiv ``replacements’’) are allowed. Failure to comply with these guidelines will impede the publication of the paper. Each paper or poster must be presented at the conference by an author (barring unforeseen circumstances), otherwise the paper will not be included in the proceedings. Should any visa restriction prevent an author from attending the conference and presenting a paper, he/she will be given ways to participate and give the talk via electronic means. Selected papers from both tracks will be invited for submission to a special issue of the Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications (JGAA). The authors of two selected papers in Track 2 will be invited to submit a substantially extended version of their work to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). Furthermore, two regular TVCG papers will be presented by their authors in a TVCG papers session.
