The candidates are expected to initiate and conduct fundamental and applied research in the Tilburg Center for Cognition and Communication (TiCC). Researchers in TiCC explore cognitive and social aspects of human communication through a multidisciplinary approach, combining careful experimentation with survey methods, corpus analyses and computational modelling. Core research domains include (in alphabetical order) communication and technology, cross-cultural communication, information visualisation, language production, new media design, non-verbal communication, social media research, and strategic communication. The candidates are expected to develop new lines of research fitting within TiCC. We are looking for an outstanding female computer scientist with a research focus in the field of Visual Computing, for example Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Visualization and Virtual/Augmented Reality. We welcome you to the 2019 ACM International Conference on Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS 2019), taking place from November 10th to 13th in Daejeon, South Korea. The early registration deadline is October 10th. Interactive surfaces and spaces have become increasingly prevalent, appearing in various sizes, shapes, and application contexts, which enables and requires novel forms of interaction going beyond the traditional WIMP paradigm. ACM ISS is the premier venue for sharing research on topics such as large-scale interactive displays, touch/gesture/whole-body and multimodal interaction, tabletop computing, 3D and spatial user interfaces, media facades, interactive architecture, interactive 3D spaces (mixed reality and augmented reality), and many others that lie within the overarching theme of interactive surfaces and spaces. Keynotes: We’re excited to announce that Bill Buxton will be our opening keynote speaker. His talk is titled “Ubiety, Mobility & Transitions: The Quest for Ecological Intelligence”. You will build on our existing Object-Based Media authoring toolkit which was developed in partnership with BBC R&D and will have access to a rich base of content creation companies via XR Stories, our centre for R&D in new forms of interactive and immersive storytelling. XR Stories also provides funding for both academia and industry that you will have access to. You will be expected to identify and formulate research questions from the perspective of storytelling, authoring processes and/or technology, use appropriate research techniques and methods to address them, and publish in high quality venues. You are also expected to contribute to public engagement and outreach activities and undertake appropriate organisational, administrative and teaching activities. == Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed == You will have a PhD in an area related to digital storytelling or equivalent experience, a good record of high-quality scientific publications, and bring an appetite for innovation and learning across discipline boundaries and application domains. You will have knowledge in an area related to digital storytelling and of a range of research techniques and methodologies applicable to this field. You will have good programming skills for prototype development (preferably HTML5 and JavaScript) and a passion for storytelling craft. You will have the ability to capture ideas from domain experts and stakeholders and translate them into research questions, and undertake rapid prototyping (with help from software engineers) to deliver concepts quickly and efficiently. You will have highly developed communication and publication skills. You will bring experience of carrying out independent and collaborative research. You will be a team player with a collaborative approach. You will have the opportunity to develop your career by engaging (with appropriate training and mentorship) in the process of writing research grant applications as well as research management/supervision/teaching.
