(Apologies for cross-posting) The Visual+Interactive Data group <https://visualinteractivedata.github.io/> at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh <https://www.ed.ac.uk/informatics>, is searching for an engaged and creative postdoc / PhD summer intern to help doctors sharing, browsing, and visualizing clinical guidelines about Covid-19. Clinical guidelines are documents laying out specific diagnosis and treatment procedures and the project aims to facilitate doctors browsing and creating guidelines about Covid-19 for their hospital in an environment with quickly updating information and policies. Our effort is part of a larger UK-government funded project including partners in Natural Language Processing (NLP), the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary <https://www.nhslothian.scot/GoingToHospital/Locations/RIE/Pages/default.aspx>, and the Roslin Institute <https://www.ed.ac.uk/roslin>. The CDVE2020 conference will be held from October 25-28, 2020 as planned either in Bangkok or go virtual. Our plan A is to hold the conference in Bngkok and Plan B is to go virtual. All the paper submission, review, acceptance and final paper submission processes will be the same except that the registration fee will be lower for plan B. You will receive the proceedings book sent to you. We will announce which plan will be executed before the final paper due and early registration date. It aims to bring Machine Learning and Visualization researchers together in order to exchange research ideas. ============================================== Call for Papers GD 2020 28th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization September 15-18, 2020 Vancouver, Canada https://gd2020.cs.ubc.ca/ ================================================ Graph Drawing is concerned with the geometric representation of graphs and constitutes the algorithmic core of Network Visualization. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, and software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 25 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. GD 2020 will take place September 15-18, 2020, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters, and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. PAPERS ------ We invite authors to submit papers describing original research of theoretical or practical significance to graph drawing and network visualization. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of two distinct tracks described below. Papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): • Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms • Geometric and topological graph theory • Computational topology of graphs on surfaces • Geometric network design and optimization • Geometric computing Track 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as the development of network visualization systems and interfaces in different application areas. SHORT PAPERS ------------ In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers, describing theoretical or applied contributions of shorter length. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. SUBMISSION FORMAT ----------------- All submissions must be formatted using the LaTeX style file for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. To promote inclusion of more figures in the submitted papers, submission will have a strict number of lines limit and the possibility to have one page more compared to previous years. REGULAR PAPERS HAVE AT MOST 400 lines (excluding references and figures) AND AT MOST 13 PAGES (excluding references). Short papers have at most 200 lines (excluding references and figures) AND at most 7 pages (excluding references). The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. The LNCS proceedings will be made freely accessible to the GD community upon publication and openly accessible to anyone after four years. Further Information Design informatics develops concepts, systems, and devices that allow humans to interact better with technology and data, and with each other. It combines design thinking with computational and data-driven methodologies in areas such as internet of things, security and privacy, robotics, speech and language, visualisation and graphics, computational social science, and cognitive science. Design informatics is at the core of innovation in the 21st century, creating technology that makes our lives safer, cleaner, healthier, fairer, and more productive. The Centre for Design Informatics is a collaboration between the School of Informatics and the Edinburgh College of Art. It brings together faculty from both Schools and is located in the newly built Bayes Centre and in InSpace, which hosts lab space and public engagement facilities. Over the last five years, Design Informatics in Edinburgh has established a distinctive profile, attracted considerable funding from research councils, government, and industry, and built a substantial cohort of master's and PhD students. We are now seeking a world-leading researcher who will take Design Informatics to the next level. They will act as co-director of the Centre of Design Informatics, provide research leadership, spearhead funding initiatives, and develop design informatics teaching. They are also expected to play a significant outreach role, through public engagement and industry contacts. The successful candidate will have a vision for how to develop design informatics both as a field and within the Edinburgh ecosystem, which includes initiatives such as the Bayes Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the Edinburgh Futures Institute, and the Edinburgh City Region Deal, which focuses on data-driven innovation. This is an ideal possibility for a just-finished PhD student or a postdoc seeking short term employment as the project can include a significant amount of research in data visualization literacy, data literacy, and teaching visualization (for professionals). However, a PhD is not required if equivalent work experience in visualization can be shown. The group has access to the latest immersive tech <http://edinburghvishub.github.io/> (VR, MR, touch screens and tables, 3D printing and cutting, fab lab etc) and is about to plan its own lab space. Visual+Interactive Data is highly engaged in co-organizing Edinburgh’s monthly Data Vis meetup (over 700 members) and collaborates across Schools and outside the University involving: NHS, the Scottish Government statistics division, the City council, Visa, etc. In the Centre for Design Informatics https://www.designinformatics.org <https://www.designinformatics.org/>, we design systems for better human-data interaction, in diverse settings such as health, culture, mobility and finance. We explore design from, with, and by data: the central concern is the design of flows of data which sustain and enhance human values. The Centre for Design Informatics includes 10 faculty from both the School of Informatics and the Edinburgh College of Art, working with around 20 PhD students, seven research and engineering staff, and a team of eight professional services staff. The Centre runs dedicated master’s degrees in design informatics, attracting a group of around 45 master’s students each year, who take a broad portfolio of postgraduate courses thought by the Centre.
