You will build on our existing Object-Based Media authoring toolkit which was developed in partnership with BBC R&D and will have access to a rich base of content creation companies via XR Stories, our centre for R&D in new forms of interactive and immersive storytelling. XR Stories also provides funding for both academia and industry that you will have access to. You will be expected to identify and formulate research questions from the perspective of storytelling, authoring processes and/or technology, use appropriate research techniques and methods to address them, and publish in high quality venues. The candidates are expected to initiate and conduct fundamental and applied research in the Tilburg Center for Cognition and Communication (TiCC). Researchers in TiCC explore cognitive and social aspects of human communication through a multidisciplinary approach, combining careful experimentation with survey methods, corpus analyses and computational modelling. Core research domains include (in alphabetical order) communication and technology, cross-cultural communication, information visualisation, language production, new media design, non-verbal communication, social media research, and strategic communication. The candidates are expected to develop new lines of research fitting within TiCC. Moreover, the candidates contribute to one of the leading programs in the Netherlands in Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), consisting of three tracks: Business Communication and Digital Media (BDM), Communication and Cognition (CC), and New Media Design (NMD). We are looking for an outstanding female computer scientist with a research focus in the field of Visual Computing, for example Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Visualization and Virtual/Augmented Reality. Expected Qualifications Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication activity, and international reputation. We welcome you to the 2019 ACM International Conference on Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS 2019), taking place from November 10th to 13th in Daejeon, South Korea. The early registration deadline is October 10th. Interactive surfaces and spaces have become increasingly prevalent, appearing in various sizes, shapes, and application contexts, which enables and requires novel forms of interaction going beyond the traditional WIMP paradigm. ACM ISS is the premier venue for sharing research on topics such as large-scale interactive displays, touch/gesture/whole-body and multimodal interaction, tabletop computing, 3D and spatial user interfaces, media facades, interactive architecture, interactive 3D spaces (mixed reality and augmented reality), and many others that lie within the overarching theme of interactive surfaces and spaces. Keynotes: We’re excited to announce that Bill Buxton will be our opening keynote speaker. His talk is titled “Ubiety, Mobility & Transitions: The Quest for Ecological Intelligence”. You will have good programming skills for prototype development (preferably HTML5 and JavaScript) and a passion for storytelling craft. You will have the ability to capture ideas from domain experts and stakeholders and translate them into research questions, and undertake rapid prototyping (with help from software engineers) to deliver concepts quickly and efficiently. You will have highly developed communication and publication skills. You will bring experience of carrying out independent and collaborative research. DATA VISUALIZATION CAREERS PROJECT

Dear Colleagues, I hope this email finds you doing well and having a productive semester. This semester I am teaching a new class, Topics in Data Visualization, to students who are participating in a campus wide Data Mine Initiative here at Purdue. Students are from various majors, but are interested in data visualization. The class meets once a week. Some of the students have not chosen a major yet, so I see this as an opportunity to encourage them to consider majoring in Data Visualization (my department offers an undergraduate degree in data visualization) and for those who have already chosen a major to become more knowledgeable about data visualization careers. One of the assignments is to identify and interview someone in the data visualization field and/or someone who's job/career requires data visualization skills or data visualization is a key component of their duties. I see this as a great opportunity for students from a broad array of backgrounds to connect with persons in the data visualization field who could provide some insight on their work experience, the benefits and value of data visualization in today's data driven world. I am writing to see if there are any persons on this list (or know of someone in the field) willing to give a student 10 minutes of their time for a one-on-one interview to ask you about your job. The questions will be predetermined and made available before the interview. The interview will be scheduled at a time that is most convenient for you. I have reached out to a number of colleagues from a broad range of disciplines so that students will have a diverse pool to choose from. I would like to ensure the pool is diverse in terms of occupation, discipline and gender. Students are working to complete interviews by October 10, 2019.
