After 18 years, OzCHI finally come back to Western Australia. Time has passed and things have changed a lot since OzCHI 2001. More HCI and UX works have been done in Western Australia as well as its neighbouring countries. Having the privilege to convene the 2nd OzCHI conference in Western Australia, one of our objectives is to be inclusive towards attendees across overall Asia-Pacific. The conference theme is Experience Design in Asia Pacific, which highlights the challenges we all face in the endeavour to tame the environment without destroying it to ensure our continuing existence. Our vision is to make OzCHI 2019 as an inclusive event for academic, industry, research, start-ups, maker communities to learn and exchange knowledge in the recent and emerging HCI and UX areas - practical, technical, empirical and theoretical aspects regardless their level of maturity in the fields. Long papers report on innovative, original, and completed research, which is relevant, significant, and interesting to the HCI community. 2. Short papers present ideas that are emerging and would benefit from discussion with members of the HCI community. This type of submission may include work-in-progress, experiences of reflective practitioners, and first drafts of novel concepts and approaches. 3. Workshops are half-day and full-day sessions on topics that contribute to community building around a specific HCI topic. Topics may include methods, practices, and other areas of interest and that support active participation beyond presentation. 4. Doctoral consortium is a full-day intensive session for research students. A panel of experienced HCI researchers provides advice and guidance. 5. Student Design Challenge is an annual international competition in which students work rapidly researching, brainstorming and sketching a solution for a real HCI problem. Finalists will present their work at the OzCHI 2019 conference. 6. Industry papers provide the opportunity for practitioners and industries for their initiatives or new developments that could benefit from discussion with members of the HCI community. 7. Work-in-Progress papers are a subset of the long papers track (subject to the same format and deadlines). Rather than reporting on mature research, they describe work-in-progress, late-breaking and new ideas, questions, or challenges, and are intended to provoke discussion in the OzCHI community. The accepted submission will be required to present a poster 8. Demo/Posters is a venue for industry, research, startups, maker communities, the arts, and design to present their hands-on demonstration, share novel interactive technologies, and stage interactive experiences. Launched in September 2014, this interdisciplinary BSc programme achieved an overall satisfaction score of 90% in the 2018 National Student Survey, and ranked first in the Russell Group for “Learning Opportunities” and “Organisation and Management” measures. This position will commence mid-December 2019 and will be available as a full time appointment for a period of 6 months (until mid-June 2020). The role will be held within the University’s interdisciplinary Department of Theatre, Film and Television (TFTV). TFTV, established in 2006, is a highly innovative department that brings together research, teaching and commercial activities in the fields of interactive media, film, television and theatre. In September 2010, we moved into a £30m purpose-designed building with superb facilities for both production activities and academic study. In 2015, the department together with Computer Science started leading the Digital Creativity Labs, a newly funded £18m flagship project of the UK Government’s Digital Economy programme. On 1 May 2019, the department, together with the Digital Creativity Labs, launches XR Stories, an exciting new R&D partnership for the Yorkshire screen industries as part of the Creative Industries Cluster Programme, funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council and part of the Industrial Strategy. == Role == The successful candidate will lead and teach on existing modules covering introductory programming in Processing (Java) and the interactive media development process (e.g. design, user experience, prototyping, evaluation and project management for a variety of applications). You will develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material to create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students as well as carry out on-going curriculum review, and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies. You will also contribute to final year project supervision and marking and undertake a range of administrative responsibilities. == Skills, Experience & Qualification needed == You will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a PhD, but at least a Masters degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Computer Science, HCI or Games Design and Development) and experience teaching at HE level. Dear Colleagues, The Department of Geography at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position, in Geographic Information Science (GIScience) with specific focus on environmental or social applications of Spatial Data Science, beginning in August 2020. We seek candidates whose work advances the frontiers of spatiotemporal analytics and geographic data science in creative and novel ways to drive emerging questions involving change and dynamics, and in the interplay between human and environmental systems, as related to natural hazards or climate, natural or human resources, public health, demography, urbanization, or other questions at the nexus of human-natural dimensions of environmental change. The successful candidate has a strong foundation in GIScience, current and emerging methods in statistics, data science, and/or machine learning, and can demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary research in and beyond the geographical sciences. The Department of Geography sponsors a vital undergraduate certificate in GIS and Computational Science in collaboration with the Computer Science Department. The Department also plays a key role in Earth Lab, a synthesis center for Earth systems research that aims to accelerate data-driven discovery (https://www.colorado.edu/earthlab/) with a strong focus on leveraging remotely-sensed geospatial data. Interest in spatiotemporal analysis, dynamic modeling, data science and computational GIScience is high across the College of Arts & Sciences and campus as a whole. The ideal candidate will be motivated to interact with colleagues across a broad array of disciplines. As part of the normal three courses per year teaching expectation, the successful candidate will rotate regularly into three existing courses: Introductory GIScience, Basic Statistics and Advanced Quantitative Methods at least every other year. The candidate will teach an upper division elective in spatiotemporal analysis for undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will also regularly teach a graduate level seminar on a research topic of their choosing and congruent with student demand and department needs. This is a kind reminder of the approaching deadline for the IEEE AIVR 2019 special session on “Immersive Analytics” *IEEE AIVR 2019, Dec 9-11, 2019, San Diego, CA, USA* http://ieee-aivr.org The IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2019), now in its second run, is a unique event, addressing researchers and industries from all areas of AI as well as Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. This year features a dedicated call for a special session on "Immersive Analytics": *Call for papers on Immersive Analytics* Immersive analytics (IA) is an interdisciplinary research field that uses VR/AR to create truly immersive and interactive representations of big data for a better analysis and understanding. In this special session, we want to explore the state of the art in IA, identify problems and major challenges, and look into recent improvements and promising ideas. We are particulary interested in examples that show how AI and VR/AR can be brought together to create and improve IA. Related topics include but are not limited to: * IA for data analysis, exploration, and decision making * Application domains for IA, including health, science & engineering, education * Human factors related to IA, including perception, awareness, and cognitive load * Good examples and innovative ideas for visualization, exploration, and interaction in IA * Tools, standards, and best practices Special session papers are treated like regular conference papers. In this special issue, we will feature cutting-edge research where interactive visual analytics methods are applied together with complex computational methods for making explainable and accountable decisions informed by data. Scope, Description, and More Information This special issue invites submissions that feature original research on designing, developing and evaluating interactive visual analytics methods that empower their users to make explainable and accountable inferences and decisions based on massive amounts of data. A suitable submission must also demonstrate its relevance to TiiS, the premier journal featuring interactive intelligent systems with two distinct characteristics: intelligence and interactivity. In particular, a suitable submission must exhibit or discuss how the resulting approaches, techniques, or systems advance an interactive intelligent system. Interdisciplinary and applied research is especially encouraged.
