Expressions of interest are invited for a postdoc position in graph drawing and related areas at the graph drawing research group led by Prof. Giuseppe Di Battista at the Department of Engineering at Roma Tre University. The research group includes Fabrizio Frati, Maurizio Patrignani, and Maurizio Pizzonia as permanent members, together with several postdocs and PhD students. The postdoc position is funded by the PRIN (Research Projects of National Interest) Project "MODE" - Morphing graph drawings efficiently. The ideal candidate for the position should have a PhD in Mathematics or Computer Science and should have a background in algorithms, theoretical computer science and/or discrete mathematics, preferably with an interest in graph drawing, graph theory, and/or combinatorial geometry. Should any candidate be considered fit for the postdoc position, a call for applications will be opened. The postdoc appointment is to begin at any time during 2017 (or early 2018), the sooner the better. The position is for one year, renewable for a second year. The position is full-time and research-only. The position is open to candidates of any nationality; in particular, no knowledge of Italian is required. The gross salary is 27K, which will result in ~1650 net per month. Travel funding will be available. VizSec provides an excellent venue for fostering greater exchange and new collaborations on a broad range of security- and privacy-related topics. VizSec will be held in Phoenix, AZ, USA in conjunction with IEEE VIS, on Monday, October 2nd 2017. VizSec explores effective and scalable visual interfaces for security domains such as network security, computer forensics, reverse engineering, insider threat detection, cryptography, privacy, user assisted attacks prevention, compliance management, wireless security, secure coding, and penetration testing. ** Technical Papers ** Full papers describing novel contributions in security visualization are solicited. Papers may present techniques, applications, theory, analysis, experiments, or evaluations. ** NIER and Tool track deadline is June 23, 2017 ** VISSOFT 2017: 5th IEEE Working Conference on Software Visualization -== Call for Papers ==- Software visualization is a broad research area whose general goal is to enhance and promote the theory, realization, and evaluation of approaches to visually encode and analyze software systems, including software development practices, evolution, structure, and software runtime behavior. Software visualization is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing on theories and techniques from information visualization and computer graphics and applying these in the software engineering domain. The VISSOFT conference is principally a venue for publishing and discussing research related to software visualization. VISSOFT brings together a community of researchers from software engineering, information visualization, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction to discuss theoretical foundations, algorithms, techniques, tools, and applications related to software visualization. This year’s VISSOFT, co-held with ICSME, encourages a variety of submissions that address outstanding challenges in software systems using visualization. This includes technical papers, empirical studies, applications, case studies, and papers that present novel ideas and tools. VISSOFT topics of interest include: * Innovative visualization and visual analytics techniques for analysis of software engineering data. This includes source code, dependencies, repositories, developer social networks like StackOverflow and GitHub, mobile app reviews, documentation, runtime logs, and DevOps data. * Visualization to support software development activities, including design, requirements engineering, program comprehension, software testing, and debugging. * Interaction techniques and algorithms for software visualization * Visualization-based techniques in software engineering education * Integration of software visualization tools with development environments * Empirical evaluation of software visualizations * Industrial experience with using software visualization * Applications of new technologies to enhance software visualization, including virtual reality, augmented reality, gamification, and machine learning. The research will be performed within the Linnaeus University Center on Data Intensive Sciences and Applications, DISA, funded by Linnaeus University for five years. Overall aim of this DISA subproject is to better understand and engineer complex cyber-physical systems. We will develop foundational visual analytics principles, techniques and tools for analyzing data and models in those systems. Thus, trust into the analysis results will be finally increased by making the analysis methods and resulting empirical models transparent for end users. In consequence, our users will be enabled to better predict the behavior of cyber-physical systems and to reconstruct the underlying models more efficiently when needed. Duties consist mainly of the following: • Graduate studies in the field of Visual Analytics, with a doctoral degree as the goal. The PhD thesis should be completed and defended within the official appointment duration of five years (4 years graduate studies, 1 year departmental tasks). • Research in the field Visual Analytics. The position is part of DISA and its subproject Visual Analytics for Engineering Smarter Systems. • Regularly present intermediate research results at international conferences and workshops, and publish them in conference proceedings and journals. • Close collaboration with the other project members in an interdisciplinary research environment as well as with domain experts. • At most 20% of the working time will be dedicated to teaching and other departmental tasks. Information visualization at DIKU is at the intersection between data science and human-centered computing. Data science techniques are central to dealing with and modelling large sets of data; human-centered computing is central to the design of effective visual representations and task-relevant interaction. The assistant professor will join the department’s Human-Centered Computing Section (http://www.diku.dk/english/research/hcc/) The section’s research is concerned with the theory and practice of how people engage with computing. Currently, our focus is on computer-supported collaborative work, health informatics, human-computer interaction, and information systems development. The candidate will be associated with the BIOPRO project (http://www.biopro.nu) This project aims to design and evaluate novel interactive visualizations that help domain experts develop and combine mathematical models and statistical models with online sensor data with the ultimate goal of optimizing bio-based production processes. We work with domain experts from leading bio-based manufacturing companies in Denmark and with leading university researchers in chemical engineering, chemometrics, and applied statistics. Preferred candidates should * combine an outstanding research record with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring. * have a PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent. * have a strong background in information visualization documented by publications in top tier venues or journals, such as IEEE VIS or ACM CHI. The tenure track assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within information visualization. Contributing to BIOPRO research – together with a professor and a PhD student – is also key to the position. To a limited extent the position may also include other duties. The position is available immediately at UBC’s Point Grey campus in Vancouver, Canada. Description: DFP is developing a new two-year graduate enrichment program with first phase of delivery targeted for September 2017. The teaching postdoc is envisioned to play a multi-faceted role for this program. The two primary foci for Year 1 are to work with a faculty team on the design and delivery of the program’s two core courses: (1) foundations of HCI, and (2) an eight-month externally-sponsored, team-based project in user-centered design. Both of these will be done in partnership with a network of DFP faculty members. The position has some flexibility – candidates who are also interested in building their research portfolio will have the option to include DFP research as part of their job description. For example, program evaluation is a secondary goal for the position, which includes assessment of best practices for ‘team’ building and interdisciplinarity. The postdoc could use the DFP environment to conduct research on these topics. Thus, this role will be ideal for an individual who wants to groom themself for a professional career in innovative, high-value education, rising out of a stellar doctoral research program - for example, as a tenure-track instructor, and/or education researcher. Both algorithmic data sciences approaches and human-centered "visualization" and visual analytics human-computer interface methods hold great promise for operationalizing massive datasets and streaming data in support of a broad range of human activities. Applications in basic scientific research, business analytics, health sciences, environmental science and engineering R&D explore the implications of these methods for advancement of knowledge and strategic planning. Applications in coordination, command, and control of complex human activities such as crowd and traffic management, disaster relief, law enforcement, and national and cyber security add the constraints of real-time performance and distribution of planning to the challenges faced. For this mintrack we invite computational, cognitive, and organizational perspectives on advanced data processing and interactive visualization across a range of human endeavors. We also invite participation from researchers who are looking at scaling issues and multiscale issues, whether these scales refer to the time of decision making, the form-factor and operational constraints of mobile devices, the number of decision makers or the more traditional notion of multiscale simulation and real world scales of data. We are particularly interested in approaches that combine computational and interactive analytics in mixed initiative or Interactive Machine Learning systems, decision support in the context of an organization (e.g. communication between analysts and policy-makers), perceptual and cognitive aspects of the analytic task, and collaborative analysis using visual information systems.
