Due to the recent advances in immersive technologies (VR, AR, large displays, tangible surfaces, etc.), we see new opportunities to using these technologies to analyze and explore data. Visual analytics is concerned with analytical reasoning facilitated by interactive visual interfaces. This definition is agnostic of the actual interface devices employed by visual analysis systems. Nevertheless, the affordances of the display and input devices used for analyzing data strongly affect the experience of the users of such systems, and so, their degree of engagement and productivity. However, a systematic approach to developing visual analytic tools that move beyond the desktop is yet lacking. >> What? In this call, we are looking for innovative research, design, and view-points, mature or work-in-progress, that fall into or are related to the following topics: * Real-world VA/AR, * Collaboration, * Hybrid 2D/3D, * Affordances for Immersion, * Changing Technologies, * Application Areas, * Platforms and Toolkits. Special issue on “cooperative design, visualization and engineering for multimodal systems and datasets” at Journal of Multimodal User Interfaces. http://www.springer.com/computer/hci/journal/12193 With the rapid advancement of storage media and network technologies, the data we need to deal with in organizational systems has become increasingly large and complex. How to address the distributive and multimodal nature of enterprise data and cooperative practice of system design to accommodate the demand for systems of data analytics remains an open problem, which has attracted rich attention from both from researchers and practitioners in these days. This specie issue targets on novel design principles, analytics techniques and evaluation methodologies that are to address issues surrounding cooperative design, visualization and engineering for multimodal systems and datasets. The primary objective is to foster focused attention in this emerging area and to serve as forum for researchers and professionals all over the world to exchange and discuss the latest advances. Papers to be submitted to this special issue must focus on multimodal interaction and multimodal interfaces (e.g. combination of several input and/or output modalities such as gesture, speech, vision, graphics, haptics, touch, etc.). All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and papers will be selected based on their quality and relevance to the theme of this special issue. The primary focus of the exhibition is not a trade show, but rather a venue where job candidates can circulate and representatives for employers can be found at known locations so that contact can be made. 2. Beyond a traditional job board, as part of the VIS Community program (formerly known as VIS Compass) VIS 2016 is adding a job poster venue during the regular poster sessions. Individuals can bring posters that showcase their research, their skills and capabilities, and their interests. In contrast to academic posters which have one subject and multiple authors, a job poster is expected to have a single author and could cover multiple areas of expertise. Your poster should include a URL or QR code to your online resume or CV. This is the converse of the exhibition; job seekers will be stationary, and employers can circulate. This session will be Wednesday afternoon before the banquet. 3. In addition to the exhibition, high-level supporters have a session, Tuesday, October 25, 4:15-5:55 PM, to present their technologies and research. 4. To facilitate connections between employers and job seekers, we are adding an additional request for information to the registration system. If you are or will be on the job market soon, you can signify this when you register, and even upload a CV or resume. You must elect to share your information; we will not be volunteering attendee information to our supporters without permission.
