These systems span from Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) environments to novel Human-Computer Interaction systems (such as multimodal or multitouch architectures) and entertainment applications in general. Their common principle is a strong user centric orientation which requires real-time processing of simulation aspects as well as input/output events according to perceptual constraints. Therefore, we encourage researchers and developers of real-time human computer interaction systems of all flavors to share their experiences and learn from each other during this workshop. SEARIS wants to account the state-of-the-art in software design and software engineering for realtime interactive systems, to shape a common understanding, to compare systems and approaches and derive common paradigms, to develop useful and necessary methods and techniques, and to foster new ideas. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): - Architectures: data-flow-oriented, object-oriented, component-based, scene graph(s), etc. - Abstraction mechanisms: entity centered design, world descriptions, semantic modeling - Reusability/Extensibility: plugins, components, modules, extension points, etc. - RIS Programming: class libraries, scripting & core implementation languages, declarative languages and solutions - System Issues: operating systems, portability, networking, distribution, etc. - Adaptivity: support of configurability, personalization, adaptation - Behavior: support and integration of behavioral components (physics, AI, etc.) - Implementation and Testing of Realtime Interactive Systems - Performance: consideration of evaluation strategies, latency, synchronization, etc. This year we are celebrating the 10th edition of SEARIS in IEEE VR, and we want you to actively participate to make it special, first by submitting your contribution, and second by participating in the activities that we will announce in our website. Contribution Formats: Following last years, contributions are planned to be included and indexed in the IEEE digital library. 1. Research Papers (6-8 pages) Novel results in the field in the above mentioned categories related to RIS development. 2. Short Papers (up to 4 pages) Preliminary results or work in progress. 3. Position Papers (2-8 pages) Interesting and possibly controversial points of view of technical or technological advancements and approaches to foster a lively discussion at the event. 4. Request for participants for visualization study

Dear Colleague, The visualization and analysis of incomplete data is an area that has not received much attention from the research community, although it is a challenge experienced in many areas of data analysis. You are invited to participate in a survey that aims to evaluate the performance of three visualization methods from the R-package VIM (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/VIM/VIM.pdf) in the context of displaying incomplete data. From your responses we will be able to evaluate what type of visualization may be best for solving particular tasks, and through this provide guidance for future research. The study is completely anonymous and is part of a project at University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK. It starts with an instructive video, followed by a set of tasks that will take around 15 minutes to complete. Short-term Visual Analytics Postdoc Position Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN We invite applications for a short-term postdoctoral researcher in visual analytics, visualization, and big data analytics across a wide spectrum of application areas. The successful candidate will perform research in visual analytics projects, big data analytics projects, lead research activities within the group, and interface with renowned academic research groups in visual analytics around the world. We are the lead of the Visualization Sciences Center of Excellence funded by U.S. DHS with additional funding, from DOD, NSF, and other government agencies. We have 26 partner institutions across the world. We have many interesting projects working on real data and great challenging projects. VACCINE is working closely with collaborators including health and public safety departments, medical doctors, US Coast Guard, TSA, computational scientists, combustion engineers, soundscape ecologists, businesses, and researchers in science, engineering, and economics. The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. with strong research background in one of the following: visual analytics, geospatial and temporal analysis, statistics, visualization, cognitive science, human computer interaction, big data, computer graphics or a closely related field. Both beginning and senior postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to apply. Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to be part of our leading visualization group Aviz at INRIA in the Paris area in France, to work on our novel research direction: progressive data analysis. Progressive data analysis, including progressive visualization and progressive visual analytics, is concerned by data at scale, allowing analysts to perform complex analyses with results arriving as estimates improving progressively, with latency guaranteed to remain below a few seconds. The research work will be done under the direction of Jean-Daniel Fekete, group leader of Aviz (www.aviz.fr/~fekete/) Applicants should have a PhD in computer science or a closely related discipline.
