The Visual Computing Group at the Harvard School of Engineering is seeking post-doctoral fellows and PhD students in the area of visualization. We are seeking post docs to contribute to VCG's efforts in visualization for biology who will work closely with the Caleydo team in an interdisciplinary setting, as well as on topics related to visualization on the web. We welcome applications from those with visualization background and/or a computer science background and experience in working with biological data (e.g., bioinformatics). A strong track record demonstrating research experience and software development skills are required. PhD students will have a chance to work on the aforementioned topics as well as other visualization topics, such as human-computer interaction in the context of visualization. The School of Interactive Computing (IC) within the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. The VGTC Scholars will blog and host discussions on the new VGTC.org website, to enliven the community through raising topics which are on the forefront of research or important to the community. Scholars will also blog about VGTC-sponsored conferences they attend. Each Scholar will be recognized on the new VGTC website (launching soon), and receive a remuneration of US $350. It allows you to see the number of Google Scholar citations that papers have received, when papers cite other papers, Best Paper award winners, and papers of particular authors or about particular topics. They should place the work within the field, clearly indicate the novelty of the application, and present the impact and significance of the experience to advance the UMAP research and application. - Short experience papers (6 pages): Short experience papers should present an original and highly promising application of user modeling and adaptation technologies, whose merit will be assessed in terms of originality and importance rather than maturity and extensive user validation. RESEARCH TRACK Peer reviewed, original, and principled research papers addressing both the theory and practice of User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization. Papers will be assessed based on the originality and significance of the presented contribution to the research field, as well as their technical soundness and overall readability. - Long research papers (12 pages): Long research papers should present original reports of substantive new research. They should place the work within the field, and clearly indicate its innovative aspects and its significance. - Short research papers (6 pages): Short research papers should present original and highly promising research, whose merit will be assessed in terms of originality and importance rather than maturity and technical validation. SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION Papers must be formatted according to Springer’s LNCS style guidelines ( http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0) and not exceed the page length, as specified above. The long and short paper categories will be strictly kept apart in the submission and review process. Accepted papers will be distributed to conference attendees, and also published by Springer in both online and printed conference proceedings. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference and present the paper there.
