The workshops provide a venue to discuss and explore emerging areas of User Modelling and Adaptive Hypermedia research with a group of like-minded researchers and practitioners from Industry and academia. We welcome proposals for half-day and full-day workshops. We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshops, including but not limited to: - Working group meetings around a specific problem or topic; such workshops may wish to ask participants to submit a white paper or position statement. - Mini-conferences on specialized topics; such workshops may have their own paper submission and review processes. - Mini-competitions or challenges around selected topics with individual or team participation. =============== PROPOSAL FORMAT =============== The workshop proposals should be PDF documents not exceeding 5 pages, submitted by email to the workshop chairs. The proposals should be organized as follows: - Workshop title and acronym - Workshop chair(s), including affiliation, email address, homepage, and experiences in organizing such events - Abstract (up to 300 words) and topics - Motivation on why the topic is of particular interest at this time - Workshop format, discussing the mix of events such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, and general discussion - Intended audience and expected number of participants - List of (potential) members of the program committee (at least 50% have to be confirmed at the time of the proposal) - Requested duration (half day or full day) - Past versions of the workshop, including URLs as well as submission and acceptance statistics. Additionally, we strongly suggest to have organizers from different institutions, bringing different perspectives to the workshop topic. We welcome workshops with a creative structure that attracts various types of contributions and ensures rich interactions. The organizers of accepted workshops will prepare a workshop web site containing the call for papers and detailed information about the workshop organization and timeline. The organizers will be responsible for their own reviewing process, publicity, and publishing electronic proceedings (e.g., on the CEUR-WS website). We will study how to take advantage of explicit expert knowledge in the Visual Analytics process to make analytical reasoning more effective and efficient. We plan to develop and evaluate knowledge specification methods as well as knowledge-assisted visualization and interaction methods for time-oriented data. Current approaches mostly rely on static, externally given knowledge and do not emphasize reuse and sharing of these specifications. In contrast to that, we aim to integrate specification methods directly with interactive Visual Analytics methods to allow intuitive and direct refinement of explicit knowledge by analysts. The visualization methods will make use of explicit knowledge by automatically adapting themselves and using abstractions of the input data. For development and evaluation we plan to adopt data and user tasks from an application scenario in medicine. We will cooperate with distinguished research partners in Austria, Germany, Israel, and the USA. Postdoctoral Position in Intelligent User Interfaces / InfoVis, Dept. of Computer Science, University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver, BC, Canada ====================================== We are seeking outstanding candidates with a background in user-adaptive interaction HCI and possibly information visualization to contribute to a project aimed at developing user-adaptive visualizations. Experience with machine learning and/or eye-tracking technology is an asset. The project involves an interdisciplinary team from the fields of artificial intelligence, psychology, adaptive interfaces and information visualization, and it has been on-going for three years. We are seeking post docs to contribute to VCG's efforts in visualization for biology who will work closely with the Caleydo team in an interdisciplinary setting, as well as on topics related to visualization on the web. We welcome applications from those with visualization background and/or a computer science background and experience in working with biological data (e.g., bioinformatics). A strong track record demonstrating research experience and software development skills are required. Visual Analytics Postdoc Position Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher in visual analytics, visualization, and big data analytics across a wide spectrum of application areas. The successful candidate will perform research in visual analytics projects, big data analytics projects, lead research activities within the group, and interface with renowned academic research groups in visual analytics around the world. We are the lead of the Visualization Sciences Center of Excellence funded by U.S. DHS with additional funding, from DOD, NSF, and other government agencies. We have 26 partner institutions across the world. We have many interesting projects working on real data and great challenging projects. VACCINE is working closely with collaborators including health and public safety departments, medical doctors, US Coast Guard, TSA, computational scientists, combustion engineers, soundscape ecologists, businesses, and researchers in science, engineering, and economics.
