Business Analytics is the application of analytics to business. The process required for the transformation of data into insight is multi-disciplinary. As such, business analytics falls at the intersection of computer science, statistics, mathematics (particularly optimization), and business. The Department of Business Analytics in the Tippie College of Business has been at the forefront of research in analytics since the beginning. We have particular strengths in predictive analytics in the areas of health care, social issue, text, and social media. Faculty members have developed key methodologies in social network analysis and continuous optimization. Our department is also internationally known for work in supply chain design and transportation, including humanitarian logistics. This is a kind reminder of the approaching deadline for the IEEE AIVR 2019 special session on “Immersive Analytics” *IEEE AIVR 2019, Dec 9-11, 2019, San Diego, CA, USA* http://ieee-aivr.org The IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2019), now in its second run, is a unique event, addressing researchers and industries from all areas of AI as well as Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. This year features a dedicated call for a special session on "Immersive Analytics": *Call for papers on Immersive Analytics* Immersive analytics (IA) is an interdisciplinary research field that uses VR/AR to create truly immersive and interactive representations of big data for a better analysis and understanding. In this special session, we want to explore the state of the art in IA, identify problems and major challenges, and look into recent improvements and promising ideas. We are particulary interested in examples that show how AI and VR/AR can be brought together to create and improve IA. Scope, Description, and More Information This special issue invites submissions that feature original research on designing, developing and evaluating interactive visual analytics methods that empower their users to make explainable and accountable inferences and decisions based on massive amounts of data. A suitable submission must also demonstrate its relevance to TiiS, the premier journal featuring interactive intelligent systems with two distinct characteristics: intelligence and interactivity. In particular, a suitable submission must exhibit or discuss how the resulting approaches, techniques, or systems advance an interactive intelligent system. Interdisciplinary and applied research is especially encouraged. The North Carolina State University Libraries is pleased to host the 5th Liberact (Libraries & Interactive Technologies) conference <https://www.lib.ncsu.edu/liberact> at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 14 and 15, 2019. Liberact offers practitioners and researchers involved in immersive and large-scale visual technologies the chance to meet, build community, and gain inspiration for collaboratively advancing this area of study and scholarly production. Like earlier Liberact events, this conference will focus on implementing, supporting, and maintaining visualization and interactive technologies and the content produced within/for them. We broadly define these technologies to include systems, applications, and tools like: interactive gesture- and motion-based systems, large scale visualization environments, 3D and virtual reality environments, and emergent areas. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: ACM ISS DOCTORAL SYMPOSIUM - EXTENDED The ISS Doctoral Symposium (ISS DS) is a single day invitation-only forum in which Ph.D. students can meet and discuss their work with each other and a panel of experienced researchers in an informal and interactive setting. Participants can expect an opportunity to present their dissertation research in a supportive environment and to receive constructive expert and peer feedback on their research topics and possible career paths in both academia and industry. The Symposium aims to support community building by connecting beginning and established researchers. The ideal time to apply to participate in the DS is when some progress has been made in Ph.D. research, and a path to completion is planned but could benefit from outside opinions and refinement. Students should submit a paper that describes: the problem that the thesis aims to address; the broad approach and how it builds upon and goes beyond key relevant previous work; the work completed and the plan for the full dissertation work; and open questions/issues for discussion and/or what you want to get out of participation in the symposium. Completed work may be presented as an overview or highlighting a particularly important part in depth. Doctoral Symposium papers will be published in the ISS conference companion proceedings, distributed at the conference and published in the ACM digital library. All research topics suitable for the ACM ISS Conference and associated workshops are appropriate for the DS. The DS chairs aim to achieve diversity among the student participants, including diversity across research groups and geographical areas. All Ph.D. students are welcome to apply regardless of whether they are presenting at the main conference or not. Each submission will be reviewed by both DS chairs to assess its suitability for the DS, as well as additional expert reviewers when necessary. This will be based on whether the work is sufficiently mature to present but still early enough for the student to benefit from the feedback and experience of the panel. Accepted authors will present their work to the DS chairs and expert reviewers and participate in an intensive workshop around ISS research. They will have *free registration*. The Doctoral Symposium will take place at the conference venue on Sunday, November 10, 2019 (for accepted authors and invited experts only!). Dear Colleagues, Please mark your calendars: the fifth ACM SIGIR Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR) (pronounced “cheer”) will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 14–18 March, 2020. ACM CHIIR 2020 invites submissions focused on user-centered approaches to the design and evaluation of systems for information access, retrieval, and use. *IEEE AIVR 2019, Dec 9-11, 2019, San Diego, CA, USA* http://ieee-aivr.org The IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2019), now in its second run, is a unique event, addressing researchers and industries from all areas of AI as well as Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. This year features a dedicated call for a special session on "Immersive Analytics": *Call for papers on Immersive Analytics* Immersive analytics (IA) is an interdisciplinary research field that uses VR/AR to create truly immersive and interactive representations of big data for a better analysis and understanding. In this special session, we want to explore the state of the art in IA, identify problems and major challenges, and look into recent improvements and promising ideas. We are particulary interested in examples that show how AI and VR/AR can be brought together to create and improve IA. Related topics include but are not limited to: * IA for data analysis, exploration, and decision making * Application domains for IA, including health, science & engineering, education * Human factors related to IA, including perception, awareness, and cognitive load * Good examples and innovative ideas for visualization, exploration, and interaction in IA * Tools, standards, and best practices Special session papers are treated like regular conference papers. They undergo a thorough double-blind review process. Accepted ones that are presented at the conference will be included in the proceedings and the IEEE Xplore digital library. Outstanding papers will be considered for inclusion in special issues of high ranked journals. *Deadline* for special session papers is September 9, 2019.
