Participants come from a range of backgrounds, including interface designers, user experience (UX) practitioners, information architects, software engineers, human factors experts, information systems analysts and social scientists. After 18 years, OzCHI finally come back to Western Australia. Time has passed and things have changed a lot since OzCHI 2001. More HCI and UX works have been done in Western Australia as well as its neighbouring countries. Having the privilege to convene the 2nd OzCHI conference in Western Australia, one of our objectives is to be inclusive towards attendees across overall Asia-Pacific. The conference theme is Experience Design in Asia Pacific, which highlights the challenges we all face in the endeavour to tame the environment without destroying it to ensure our continuing existence. Our vision is to make OzCHI 2019 as an inclusive event for academic, industry, research, start-ups, maker communities to learn and exchange knowledge in the recent and emerging HCI and UX areas - practical, technical, empirical and theoretical aspects regardless their level of maturity in the fields. We invite contributions on all topics related to Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Social Science, Creative Industries, and other related disciplines. Long papers report on innovative, original, and completed research, which is relevant, significant, and interesting to the HCI community. 2. Short papers present ideas that are emerging and would benefit from discussion with members of the HCI community. This type of submission may include work-in-progress, experiences of reflective practitioners, and first drafts of novel concepts and approaches. 3. Workshops are half-day and full-day sessions on topics that contribute to community building around a specific HCI topic. Topics may include methods, practices, and other areas of interest and that support active participation beyond presentation. 4. Doctoral consortium is a full-day intensive session for research students. A panel of experienced HCI researchers provides advice and guidance. 5. Student Design Challenge is an annual international competition in which students work rapidly researching, brainstorming and sketching a solution for a real HCI problem. Finalists will present their work at the OzCHI 2019 conference. 6. Industry papers provide the opportunity for practitioners and industries for their initiatives or new developments that could benefit from discussion with members of the HCI community. 7. Work-in-Progress papers are a subset of the long papers track (subject to the same format and deadlines). Rather than reporting on mature research, they describe work-in-progress, late-breaking and new ideas, questions, or challenges, and are intended to provoke discussion in the OzCHI community. The accepted submission will be required to present a poster 8. Demo/Posters is a venue for industry, research, startups, maker communities, the arts, and design to present their hands-on demonstration, share novel interactive technologies, and stage interactive experiences. HICSS-53 Call for Papers Track: Software Technology Minitrack: Security and Privacy Aspects of Human-Computer-Interactions Deadline: June 15, 2019 _____________________________________________ Call for Papers *Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences Minitrack on* *Security and Privacy Aspects of Human-Computer-Interactions* http://hicss.hawaii.edu With increasing digitization, the security and privacy aspects of information are a nonnegotiable factor in information system design and operation. Especially the human factor of information systems is a pivotal role in information security and increasingly relevant in establishing user-privacy concepts. More often than not, their knowledge about security aspects and ways of user-manipulation tactics are the last line of defense against cyberattacks. However, studies show users are also seen as the weakest link in information security. Therefore, they are also the primary target of attackers. In addition to the traditional forms of user-computer-interactions in the form of mouse-keyboard-input-devices, new ways of system-interactions, e.g., physiological data from fitness-trackers, eye-tracking devices or even pupillary responses indicating cognitive-load-levels, are increasingly feasible as everyday HCI-components. With the interest in data privacy increasing, are users aware how valuable those personal input data is and how do they value data privacy measures? We have identified two main aspects relevant to researchers within the domain of Software Technology: 1) how to securely deal with input data (also focusing on privacy aspects) 2) how this data can be utilized in order to increase secure behavior or to raise awareness among users (help the users to make better security-related decisions) In this minitrack we seek papers that explore concepts, prototypes, and evaluations of how users interact with information systems and what implications these interactions have for information security and data privacy. Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Visual Analytics Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN We invite applications for one or two postdoctoral researcher positions with Summer or Fall start dates in visual analytics, visualization, social media analytics, and big data analytics across a wide spectrum of application areas. The successful candidate will perform duties including: * Research in visual analytics in application domains including social medial analysis, interactive and explainable AI, sustainable food-energy-water systems public safety, crisis management, functional soil mapping, precision agriculture. * Assist in drafting successful research grant proposals. * Lead research activities within the group, including project management and stakeholder engagement. * Assist in supervising graduate and undergraduate students. * Interface with renowned academic research groups at and beyond Purdue University. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Science, Industrial Engineering, Geography, Statistics, or a related field, with a strong research background and expertise in visual analytics and some of these areas: visualization, geospatial and temporal analysis, statistics, machine learning, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, big data, human factors, computer graphics, food-water-energy systems, sustainable/precision agriculture. Purdue has multiple joint research projects with Peruvian Universities. Therefore, professional proficiency in Spanish is a plus. Description: Interactive visualizations can help in better understanding and handling of security incidents. The goal is to explore different ways to visualize and interact with knowledge extracted automatically from extensive heterogeneous datasets from the network monitoring tools. The student will be working within the team of cybersecurity researchers and practitioners. Since the underlying infrastructure for collecting the data already exists, the student will have immediate access to datasets and users. User evaluation sessions (workshops, interviews, tests) with the incident handlers will be part of the work, to validate the visualization design. Dear Colleagues, Please mark your calendars: the fifth ACM SIGIR Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR <https://www.chiir.org/>) (pronounced “cheer”) will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 14–18 March, 2020. ACM CHIIR 2020 invites submissions focused on user-centered approaches to the design and evaluation of systems for information access, retrieval, and use. Papers may explore improvements to existing systems and interfaces, propose novel theories, models, and systems, or focus on understanding individual and group interactions with information and information systems. As a multi-disciplinary research meeting, we welcome submissions using a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methods. CALL FOR PAPERS The 4th Workshop on Data Systems for Interactive Analysis (DSIA 2019), Co-located with VIS 2019 https://www.interactive-analysis.org/ October 20 or 21st, 2019 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In conjunction with IEEE VIS 2019. *** Submission Deadline: July 13, 2019 *** DSIA seeks to foster innovative research at the intersection of data processing systems and interactive visualization. In this workshop, we will explore ideas at the frontier of databases, machine learning, and other large-scale data-processing systems impact visualization systems design. It is our core tenant that designing these systems together will yield better systems. Examples include: * How can machine learning influence visualization design? * What data pre-processing can or should be done automatically in a database? * How can perceptual principles be applied to query optimization? This workshop is a forum for cross-pollination between these fields. The program will include invited talks from researches in these communities and preliminary research work. It will include time for short presentations outlining needs and new approaches. Finally, we will break into discussion groups and have a report out on research areas for the next year (Please see http://www.interactive-analysis.org/ for links to the program from previous years, including the notes from last year's discussion groups). -- LIST OF TOPICS -- This workshop will focus on interactive systems: techniques, methods, architecture, systems that enable the user to explore and analyze large amounts of data. The focus will be on issues that span front-end and back-end, with low-latency techniques that enable interaction especially interesting. We encourage research in progress, position papers and late-breaking results in interactive analysis in the broadest sense. We are generally interested in questions that arise at as visualization systems interface with other systems. Topics of interest workshop include (but are not limited to): * Application architectures that exploit these novel back-end capabilities * Techniques for data storage, retrieval, compression, transformation, sampling, and streaming * Database architectures for interactive analysis (designs or implementations) * Novel use of database facilities for interactive analysis * Novel database techniques based on perceptual constraints and human-centered design * Evaluation of data systems for interactive analysis * Identify unique characteristics of databases for supporting visualization * Communication protocols between front and back ends * Techniques for metadata generation We are also interested in position abstracts. In this format, we invite ideas for new research directions, their expected impact and anticipated challenges. We especially encourage junior researchers and students to consider this track as an opportunity to share concepts and get feedback. -- SUBMISSIONS -- We are accepting papers in two formats: * Preliminary research, late-breaking results and work in progress: 4 to 6 pages excluding references in IEEE VIS paper format. Accepted papers will be given a full slot to present at the workshop and will have the option to publish in IEEE Xplore. * Position abstracts, research ideas and desired future work: 1 to 3 pages excluding references in IEEE VIS paper format.
