In 2016 it will be held near Philadelphia at the ACE Conference Center in Lafayette, Pennsylvania, USA. Diagrams 2016 will run from 7th of August 2016 to the 10th of August 2016. It will be co-located with Spatial Cognition 2016<http://sites.temple.edu/sc16/> (2-5 August) and Cognitive Science 2016<http://cognitivesciencesociety.org/conference_future.html> (10-13 August). Diagrams is the only conference series that provides a united forum for all areas that are concerned with the study of diagrams, including architecture, artificial intelligence, biology, cartography, cognitive science, computer science, education, graphic design, history of science, human-computer interaction, linguistics, logic, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, and software modelling. The conference attracts a large number of researchers from almost all these related fields, positioning Diagrams as the major international event in the area. Diagrams 2016 is the ninth conference in the bi-annual series that started in 2000. Diagrams 2016 will include presentations of refereed papers, posters, tutorials, workshop sessions, and a graduate symposium. We invite submissions that focus on any aspect of diagrams research, as follows: - long research papers (15 pages) - short research papers (7 pages) - posters (3 pages) - tutorial proposals (2 pages; see the conference web page for full details) - workshop proposals (2 pages; see the conference web page for full details) - graduate symposium submissions (3 pages; see the conference web page for full details) All submissions will be fully peer reviewed. The Digital Latin Library project at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in interactive text visualization. The DLL project is led by Drs. Sam Huskey (Classics), June Abbas (Library & Information Science), and Chris Weaver (Computer Science). Dr. Weaver will serve as primary mentor. We seek a post-doctoral researcher with a background in information visualization, visual analytics, and/or human computer interaction. The ideal candidate will have a PhD and an excellent research track record in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, information science, or digital humanities. Substantial experience with user-centered design and rigorous evaluation of interactive visualization tools is essential. Experience with implementation of interactive visualization tools is also highly desired. Duties and responsibilities will include planning and execution of funded research projects, supervision of graduate and undergraduate research assistants, writing and presentation of research results in academic journals and at scientific conferences, and active participation in a large, collaborative research project. Teaching opportunities may be available if desired. This is a full time, non-tenure position, with renewal dependent upon performance and availability of funds. The newly established Department of Information Science in the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) seeks outstanding candidates for multiple tenure-track positions at all ranks. The Department takes a progressive approach to the discipline of Information Science, focusing on human-data interaction in all its diverse forms and contexts. The College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) is the first new college at CU in 53 years. This assistant is free to use and on-line here: www.vizassist.fr It can be tested with the available demo files, but you can also use it with your own data (that is kept private and local on your web client). We seek a post doc and PhD to work on HCI and information visualization at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen. We seek a postdoctoral researcher and a PhD student (fully funded) to work on visualizations of bio-processes. The work is part of a research center that offers a unique opportunity to join an ongoing collaboration with leading companies in bio-based production and researchers in different fields. The researchers will be focusing on understanding how visualizations of sensor data can be combined with process models and with statistical models that provide automated analyses of the data. The researchers will work as part of the BIOPRO2 research center (BIO-based PROduction: TOwards the next generation of optimized and sustainable processes, <http://biopro.nu<http://biopro.nu/>> http://biopro.nu) in which Technical University of Denmark, University of Copenhagen, and world-leading companies in bio-based production collaborate. The project aims to optimize bio-based production processes through the combined use of advanced sensors, statistical modeling, mathematical process models, and information visualization. As part of the project we develop prototypes that visualize data efficiently for different stakeholders and evaluate the visualizations both in laboratory studies and in field deployment within the industry partners. However, such pathways are often large and complex, making them difficult to overview and interpret, and a large number of pathways can often be related to the biological phenomena of interest. Furthermore, substantial amounts of meta-data are commonly available and have the potential to further increase understanding of the biological process. Building on the supervisory team’s previous work in multivariate data visualization, biological visualization and bioinformatics, and guided by the interests of the candidate, this project will address some of the challenges involved in visual analysis for understanding of biological processes. Within the project the candidate will design and develop novel interactive visualization methods for exploration of biological pathways and investigate how common visual representations of such pathways can be improved and extended to support understanding of complex biological phenomena. This project will suit a candidate with programming skills who has experience of visualization/visual analytics, HCI and/or data mining. Contest Challenge: Perceived vs. Actual Student Interest The importance of selecting and pursuing a major or career that fits a student's interests and passions cannot be overstated. ACT's research has shown that over time, students tend to declare the same or similar majors in their first year of college as their indicated planned major. However, ACT also has data regarding students' measured-rather than self-reported-interests and has developed a "fit index" that can help accurately predict success based on their fit with selected or intended majors. VPG's contest challenge is to develop a visual representation of Interest Perceived vs. Actual data that helps to relate the complexities of how students' measured interests match with their indicated plans, declared majors, or their persistence into their sophomore year. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: * Which majors are most affected by the influx/outflux of students? * Which majors have had an increase or decrease in measured interest over time? * Which majors have experienced differences in follow-through of students over time? This field allows you to compare a student's high interest-major and the major they actually choose. Eligibility All visualization and visual analytics designers, developers, researchers, and practitioners from business, academia, and government sectors around the world are eligible to participate. Submissions cannot promote a commercial product. Submission Limitation Contestants may be lead author on no more than three submissions to the 2015 contest. They may be a co-author of any number of submissions. Submission Deadline Contest packets must be received by 5 p.m. PDT on Monday, September 21, 2015 to qualify for the 2015 contest. Selection Procedure All active IEEE VPG members<http://vgtc.org/content/vpg-members> who do not make a submission to the contest will be invited to participate in the first-round review. The top contest submissions from this first-round review will undergo a second round of reviews conducted by five distinguished IEEE VPG members representing different backgrounds, who will be chosen jointly by the VGTC and VPG chairs. The five-member selection committee will thoroughly review and assess the top contest submissions. The chair of the selection committee will submit his or her recommendation for best visualization to the IEEE VGTC chair by Friday, Oct 16, 2015. Contest Award Along with a certificate, VPG will give a check for $100 USD to the winner in each of the following categories: 1. Most practical 2. Most original 3. One or more surprise categories in areas determined by the committee after reviewing the submissions. Submissions will be considered in all categories and may win more than one award. Perhaps most importantly, winners in all categories will have a chance to see their work being applied to ACT's data analysis, product development, and/or marketing/promotional efforts. Submission Details The 2015 contest accepts only static visualizations in the form of an image. Contest participants should email the submission package to ieeevpg(a)googlegroups.com<mailto:ieeevpg@googlegroups.com>. The package must include: 1. A pdf file that contains: * Title of the data-visualization contest submission * Name, affiliation, email address, and postal address of the participant * A 200-300 word description of the visualization written in English 2.
