Dear Graph Drawers & Network Visualizers! As you may know, the 24th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization will take place in Athens, Greece, from September 19 to 21, 2016. As has been tradition since 1994, the symposium will be accompanied by a Graph Drawing Contest, allowing all community members to demonstrate their graph drawing skills in a fun competitive setting. I am pleased to announce the contents of this year's contest. Creative Topics For your entertainment and inspiration, we have composed two nice graphs that you may draw with full artistic freedom. The first graph represents relations between countries through off-shore companies, as recently revealed in the so-called "Panama papers". The second graph is a family tree of the most popular (according to the internet) ancient Greek gods. In both cases, you may visualize the graph in any way you like. Submissions will be judged both on aesthetic appeal and clarity of displayed structure and information. For more details, visit http://graphdrawing.de/contest2016/topics.html Live Challenge Following popular tradition, a live challenge will be held during the symposium in a format similar to a typical programming contest. Teams are presented with a collection of challenge graphs and have approximately one hour to submit their highest scoring drawings. This year, as last year, the challenge shall focus on minimizing the crossing number in book embeddings. Teams may either draw the graphs manually, or use their own customized tools. Remote participation will also be possible. It attracts researchers from across the country and from further afield. The 2016 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to focus on increasing the dialogue between academic research groups, researchers in academic and in industrial developments. In order to facilitate such dialogue, we are seeking contributions mainly in the form of extended abstract and industrial demonstrations. However, we also welcome submissions of full papers. Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research. Papers will be refereed by members of the EGUK programme committee. Authors of accepted papers will be expected to give a 20 minute presentation at the conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library and will count as full paper publications. Extended abstract - an abstract of up to 1000 words, plus figures and references. An extended abstract can describe work in progress, interim results, industrial work, or research presented more fully elsewhere. Extended abstracts will also be refereed by a panel drawn from the EGUK programme committee. All accepted extended abstracts will be presented as posters in a poster session and authors of selected submissions will also be expected to give a 15 minute presentation at the conference. Industrial project abstracts �C a technical abstract of 1 to 4 pages, demonstrating implementations and/or product development. Technical abstracts will be presented at the conference site as large format posters during a poster session. Accepted abstracts will appear in the Eurographics digital library. GD has been the main annual event in this area for more than 20 years. Itsfocus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing as well asthe design of network visualization systems and interfaces. GD 2016 will behosted by the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems, an affiliate ofthe National Technical University of Athens from September 19 to 21, 2016 inAthens, Greece. The papers in this category must be based on deep understanding of existing research or industrial problems and should be defining new promising research directions. Paper publication: Position papers will be published as a SEPARATE ELECTRONIC VOLUME (of the Annals of Computer Science and Information Systems series; annals-csis.org) WITH an ISBN, ISSN and DOI numbers. These papers will NOT be placed in the IEEE Digital Library and will NOT be submitted to Thomson Reuters Web of Science. However, they will be indexed in the CrossRef, BazEkon, J-Gate, and submitted for indexing to: SCOPUS, Inspec, DBLP Computer Science Bibliography and Google Scholar. Paper submission: Authors should submit a position paper in English, carefully checked for correct grammar and spelling, using the on-line submission procedure. The guidelines for paper formatting provided at the conference website ought to be used for all submitted papers. The required submission format is the same as the camera-ready format. Please check, and carefully follow, the instructions and templates provided. Papers that are out of scope of the selected event, or that contain any form of (self)plagiarism will be rejected without reviews. All position papers will be refereed before inclusion in the conference program.
