Position papers must not exceed 8 pages and they should relate to an ongoing research or experience. Position papers will be presented by the authors alongside regular papers. Position papers may be also submitted as DEMO PAPERS and presented as demonstrations of software tools and products. They should describe non-for-profit software tools in a prototype-, alpha-, or beta-version. We invite TWO TYPES OF POSITION PAPERS: EMERGING RESEARCH PAPERS present preliminary research results from work-in-progress based on sound scientific approach but presenting work not completely validated as yet. They must describe precisely the research problem and its rationale. They must also define the intended future work including the expected benefits from solution to the tackled problem. CHALLENGE PAPERS propose and describe research challenges in theory or practice of computer science and information systems. The papers in this category must be based on deep understanding of existing research or industrial problems and should be defining new promising research directions. 2nd Biennial BPViz: Broadening Participation in Visualization Workshop, August 3 - 4, 2016

The 2016 CRA-W/CDC CADENS Broadening Participation in Visualization (BPViz'16) Workshop will be held August 3-4, 2016. The workshop will be co-located at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The goal of the workshop is to cross boundaries between STEM and non-STEM domains of scientists with data visualization needs, to facilitate collaborations and broaden participation in visualization on all levels in academia, research and industry. Sponsored by Computing Research Association -Women (CRA-W), The Coalition to Diversity Computing (CDC), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), BPViz is designed to bring together persons with an interest in visualization to: (1) present work-in-progress, (2) engage with others in the field, (3) obtain feedback from visualization experts, (4) discuss research and career interests, and (4) build a community of persons interested in broadening participation and inclusion across all domains where data visualization drives analysis and discovery. The workshop will include presentations on a variety of visualization topics, plenary speakers from academia, industry and research in the visualization field and much more. We have taken into account feedback from the 1st CRA-W/CDC BPViz Workshop participants in 2014, and we are changing the format a bit to include hands-on visualization workshops with various visualization tools and a trip to The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. BPViz'16 Workshop is an ideal opportunity to engage with others with interests in visualization, get hands-on experience with commonly used visualization tools, and network with visualization domain scientists. It is designed to inform, inspire and encourage participants to engage in the multidisciplinary dynamics of visualization. Who should apply: All persons with an interest in visualization are encouraged to apply (this includes, but is not limited to): undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, faculty, research faculty and staff. All academic majors and research interests with an interest in visualization are encouraged to apply. Women and members of underrepresented groups and underrepresented academic domains are also encouraged to apply. Travel expenses (flight or mileage), meals and lodging costs will be provided for a limited number of workshop participants. Persons who would like to be considered for travel support should indicate so when applying. We are regrettably restricted to reimbursing/providing travel support to only U.S. Citizens. We recognize this is a serious constraint, but it is a federal regulation on the funding. Persons with their own travel funds wishing to participate in the workshop are also encouraged to apply. Managing and analyzing large datasets in order to transform it into insight is critical for a variety of disciplines including climate science, nuclear physics, security, materials design, transportation, and urban planning. This is currently referred to as the Big Data Challenge. The tools and approaches needed to mine, analyze, and visualize data at extreme scales can be fully realized only if we have end-to-end solutions, which demands collective, interdisciplinary efforts. 3-year Research Associate Position on Interactive Visual Analysis for Decision-Making within Cyber-Security Systems Dear colleagues, The giCentre at City University London is seeking a Research Associate in Visualisation to work on the EU funded Project DiSIEM. The post is on researching Interactive Visualisation methods for Supporting Decision-Making in Diverse Cyber-Security Systems. The position is within the EC H2020 funded "DiSIEM - Diversity Enhancements for SIEMs" and is for a fixed term of 36 months and is available from 1 September 2016. The project is coordinated by University of Lisbon and has 5 industrial partners involved -- EDP, ATOS, Amadeus, Digital MR, and Fraunhofer Institute . The project is an innovation action and in addition to excellent research, we strive to deliver deployable quality solutions. We expect you to have a PhD degree (either awarded or thesis submitted) or equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline possibly within Computer Science or related fields. We will be looking for expertise and publication record in visualisation, visual-analytics, human-computer interaction, and human factors in visualisation design. In addition, knowledge in machine-learning and/or data mining approaches to data analysis is beneficial for the project.
