CFP: EuroVA 2016 EuroVA 2016 is the seventh international EuroVis workshop on Visual Analytics. It will take place June 6-7, 2016 in Groningen, the Netherlands. Visual Analytics has been defined as the science of analytical reasoning facilitated by interactive visual interfaces. Analytical reasoning includes analysis of complex (massive, dynamic, ambiguous, conflicting, …) data and information for gaining understanding, building knowledge, solving complex problems, and making right decisions. Visual Analytics deals with problems that cannot (yet) be solved algorithmically and therefore essentially require human thinking supported by the power of computers. Visual Analytics aims at effective division of labour between humans and computers and their synergistic collaboration, in which each side can efficiently utilize its unique capability. Thus, Visual Analytics can be understood as the science of human-computer data analysis, knowledge building, and problem solving. It is an interdisciplinary science integrating techniques from visualization and computer graphics, statistics and mathematics, data management and knowledge representation, data analysis and machine learning, cognitive and perceptual sciences, and more. EuroVA 2016 is the best place to present and discuss ideas of new methods and theories, interesting applications, designs, and studies of the use of visual analytics methods and systems. The workshop will accept a range of paper types, including technique, system, application, evaluation and theory papers in the area of Visual Analytics. The Symposium brings together researchers from the visualization, bioinformatics, and biology communities with the purpose of educating, inspiring, and engaging visualization researchers in problems in biological data visualization, as well as bioinformatics and biology researchers in state-of-the-art visualization research. It is hosted as a one-day single-track event at VIS (http://ieeevis.org) and a SIG half-day meeting at ISMB (https://www.iscb.org/ismb2016) We invite submissions of original research articles, poster submissions, as well as submissions for data visualization and redesign contests. We invite contributions on all aspects of data visualization in biology, from molecular to cell, tissue, organism and population biology. Poster submissions can be submitted to either the BioVis SIG meeting at ISMB, or to the BioVis symposium at VIS. Paper and Contest submissions can only be submitted to the BioVis symposium at VIS. All accepted papers for the conference will be linked on the BioVis website (http://www.biovis.net) and will be made available through the IEEE Digital Library and/or BMC Proceedings. In addition, all papers accepted for the conference will be considered for publication in the BMC Bioinformatics journal (impact factor 2.6), as part of the conference two-round review process. All accepted poster submissions will be made available on the BioVis website. Data Analysis and Design Contest entries that are accepted, and deemed to make a significant contribution to the field, will be invited to submit full manuscripts for inclusion in the BMC Bioinformatics journal. The ICCS conferences evolved from a series of seven annual workshops on conceptual graphs, starting with an informal gathering hosted by John F. Sowa in 1986. Recently, graph-based knowledge representation and reasoning (KRR) paradigms are getting more and more attention. The aim of the ICCS 2016 conference is to build upon its long standing expertise in graph-based KRR and focus on providing modelling, formal and application results of graph-based systems. ICCS 2016 will be co-located with FOIS 2016, held in Annecy, in the Polytech building at the campus of the University of Savoie. The conference welcomes contributions that address graph-based representation and reasoning paradigms (e.g. Bayesian Networks (BNs), Semantic Networks (SNs), RDF(S), Conceptual Graphs (CGs), Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), CP-Nets, GAI-Nets, Graph Databases, Diagrams, etc.) from a modelling, theoretical and application viewpoint: - Modelling results will investigate concrete real world needs for graph-based representation, how certain use cases are of interest to the graph community, how using graphs can bring added (business) value, what kind of graph representation is needed for a given case, etc. - Technical results will include fundamental graph theory based results for novel structures for representation, extensions of existing structures for added expressivity, conciseness, optimisation algorithms for reasoning, reasoning explanation, etc. - Papers reporting on application experience will be expected to demonstrate the benefits of the graph-based proposed solutions in the context of the use case studied with respect to other possible solutions.
