Conference on Extending Database Technology & 26th Intl. Conference on Database Theory (EDBT/ICDT 2023) Information Visualization is nowadays one of the cornerstones of Data Science, turning the abundance of Big Data being produced through modern systems into actionable knowledge. Indeed, the Big Data era has realized the availability of voluminous datasets that are dynamic, noisy and heterogeneous in nature. Transforming a data-curious user into someone who can access and analyze that data is even more burdensome now for a great number of users with little or no support and expertise on the data processing part. Thus, the area of data visualization, visual exploration and analysis has gained great attention recently, calling for joint action from different research areas from the HCI, Computer graphics and Data management and mining communities. In this respect, several traditional problems from these communities such as efficient data storage, querying & indexing for enabling visual analytics, new ways for visual presentation of massive data, efficient interaction and personalization techniques that can fit to different user needs are revisited. The modern exploration and visualization systems should nowadays offer scalable techniques to efficiently handle billion objects datasets, limiting the visual response in a few milliseconds along with mechanisms for information abstraction, sampling and summarization for addressing problems related to visual information over-plotting. Further, they must encourage user comprehension offering customization capabilities to different user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences according to the analysis needs. Overall, the challenge is to offer self-service visual analytics, i.e. enable data scientists and business analysts to visually gain value and insights out of the data as rapidly as possible, minimizing the role of IT-expert in the loop. The BigVis workshop aims at addressing the above challenges and issues by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss, exchange, and disseminate their work. BigVis attempts to attract attention from the research areas of Data Management & Mining, Information Visualization and Human-Computer Interaction and highlight novel works that bridge together these communities. IUI 2023 will be located in Sydney, Australia from March 27-31, 2023. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community, with contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design, the arts, and more. We invite contributions to the Posters and Demos tracks, with a submission deadline in early January. All submissions should convey a scientific result or work in progress that is not yet ready to be published as a full-length research paper at a refereed conference. Graphics Interface 2023 - Call for Papers

Graphics Interface 2023 invites submissions covering all aspects of HCI, graphics, and visualization. Research at the intersections of these areas, as well as intersections with computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence are also encouraged. All paper submissions are rigorously peer reviewed by at least three reviewers. Graphics Interface is the Canadian annual conference devoted to computer graphics, interactive systems, and human-computer interaction. It is the oldest regularly-scheduled computer graphics and HCI conference; the first conference was held in 1969. GI 2023 will be in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, between May 30 and June 2, 2023. For more details, visit http://graphicsinterface.org/conference/2023/ All accepted GI papers will be indexed in the ACM Digital Library and will be open access in the GI archive. The Michael A. J. Sweeney Award will be awarded at the conference to the best student papers in computer graphics and HCI. Additionally, authors of top papers will be invited to submit revised and extended versions to the journals IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG) and Computers & Graphics. Conference Format GI 2023 will be a hybrid conference. Attendees/presenters will have the option of attending and presenting in person or remotely. We encourage attendance in person to fully take advantage of the extensive opportunities to connect with other researchers in a great environment, and to build community. However, we will also facilitate remote attendance for those who cannot make it in person. Registration fees for paper presenters will be the same regardless of whether they present in person or remotely. Submission Instructions Following the lead of other conferences in Graphics/HCI, we are using a multiple deadline model for GI. Papers can be submitted to one of two deadlines strategically placed by considering other graphics and HCI deadlines. CfP EuroVis 2023 Workshop: VisGap - The Gap between Visualization Research and Visualization Software

Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to contribute to: ******************************************************************************* VisGap - The Gap between Visualization Research and Visualization Software (co-located with EuroVis 2023) June 12th, 2023, Leipzig, Germany ******************************************************************************* Over the years, many visualization methods and tools have been developed and published by the visualization research community. However, most of these are prototypes and never reach a state that can be reliably used by the target audience, e.g., domain scientists. Also, availability of these prototypes as source code or at least as executables is still the exception rather than the norm. The VisGap workshop aims to shed light on this gap between research and practical applicability, examine the obstacles every researcher faces, and propose solutions to overcome this problem as a community. VisGap'23 aims at gathering experts from all over the visualization community in order to advance the way our field works with software, sustains software, and values the effort our members put into developing said software. Following the scheme of EGPGV, VisGap'23 has two submission deadlines: early submission in mid-December and regular submission in early March. This gives authors the flexibility to choose between the two submission deadlines. The early submission deadline also allows authors improving their manuscripts and resubmitting them to the regular deadline in case they are not successful in the early review stage, similar to a major revision. We solicit papers with 4-8 pages, with one additional page allowed for references. All submissions must be original works that have not been published previously in any conference proceedings, magazine, journal, or edited book, or must present a substantial extension of previous work (at least 30%). Papers must be submitted through PCS (https://new.precisionconference.com/) All submissions will undergo a single-blind, single-stage peer review process. Accepted papers will be published by the Eurographics Association, and be stored in the Eurographics Digital Library. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and participate in the VisGap'23 workshop to present their work. The Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions in Computer Science at the rank of assistant professor, with a starting date as early as January 1, 2023 or July 1, 2023 (negotiable). Applications from exceptional candidates in all areas of Computer Science will receive full consideration. Expertise in any of the following areas will be considered an asset: Computer Graphics and Digital Media, Human Computer Interaction (including immersive computing and VR research), Software Engineering, Machine Learning (especially with applications in Natural Language Processing), and Data Science. Candidates should have obtained or be near completion of a PhD in Computer Science or related fields. Ideal applicants will be able to exhibit a strong academic background, a record of excellence in research, and evidence of or strong potential for effective teaching. In addition, candidates should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large. The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year. They will be expected to develop successful and innovative externally-funded research programs which support peer-reviewed publications, training of graduate students at both masters and PhD level, and academic and industrial collaborations. They will also be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level and contributing to curriculum development. The Computer Science BSc (Honours) program includes specializations in Digital Media and Data Science as well as a co-op option. The Computer Science MSc and PhD programs are cross-Faculty and are supported by over 20 research faculty, including three Canada Research Chairs.
