*Call for Bids to host IEEE VR Conferences* *Call for Bids*. Once a year, the IEEE VR Publicity Committee sends relevant email mailing lists a “Call for Bids to host IEEE VR Conferences”. In the call for bids, the IEEE VR Conference Steering Committee is reaching out to our community to solicit interest for hosting future IEEE VR Conferences. Bids are received throughout the year. Also, the steering committee encourages those active in the IEEE VR community to consider hosting a future IEEE VR conference. Those interested in hosting the five-day conference should email the IEEE VR Steering Committee Chair, J. Edward Swan II (swan(a)acm.org) a brief (1 page) statement of interest. The statement of interest should include information about potential hosts, their previous participation with the IEEE VR Conference, potential locations (cities, convention facilities), possible years for hosting, the capacity of the area to support the conference (hotels and options for international travel), and previous conference organizing experience. At the IEEE VR Conference, the Call for Bids is reiterated during the closing conference remarks. *Consideration of Bids*. Twice a year, the IEEE VR Steering Committee meets to discuss conference organizing and management topics. During these meetings (around September and March during the conference), the committee reviews the submitted bids. The committee uses the following criteria in evaluating bids: - Previous experience of hosts in IEEE VR leadership positions (e.g., conference organizing and program committees) using data collected from previous conferences. - Previous experience of hosts in managing large conferences. - Potential of location and host to successfully host a large event with (400–1000+) international attendees along with a growing (likely 1000+) number of online attendees. - There is a preference (but not a requirement) that a hosting location meet a 3-year rotation of the Americas, Europe / Africa, and Asia / Oceania. - A goal for diversity in representation, research perspectives, and research areas. VIS4DH CfP – Provocation Track or Lab Talks: VIS4DH 2022 – Multimodality The workshop will take place as part of the IEEE VIS conference (16–21 October 2022) in Oklahoma City, OK, USA in the form of a hybrid format, including virtual as well as in-person parts. In this year’s workshop we invite you to explore and discuss aspects of multimodality: Human expression has myriad forms. Painting, reading & writing, music, crafts, dance, fashion, cooking, and other artistic or cultural efforts are more than just visual experiences—they incorporate hearing, touch, and even taste. This multimodality raises both reflective and creative questions about the role of visualization. What do we lose when we reduce these rich multisensory experiences, artifacts, or collections down to just the visual and textual content? How can we compensate for or offset these losses? How can we augment visualizations with other experiential modes, and can these augmentations improve the (embodied) experience accessibility, viscerality, or impact of our data? In other words, what does it mean to think beyond the visual when it comes to visualization in the humanities? The following areas are of particular interest: - Mixed Reality displays, in particular optical see-through head-mounted displays (design, algorithms, calibration) - Eye-tracking for Mixed Reality - Spatial perception, cognition and interaction in Mixed Reality The successful candidate will cover these or other topics in Mixed Reality. It is expected that the candidate closely collaborates with the institute’s strategic industrial partners in the area of Mixed Reality and leads a research team funded through such industrial collaborations. The position is initially funded by SNAP, Inc. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, or software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for about 30 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing, as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. GD 2022 will be held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, on September 13-16, 2022, with a reception on the evening of September 13. A pre-conference PhD school is planned for September 12-13, 2022. The conference format will be hybrid, as both on-site and remote participation/presentation will be possible. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to two pages, excluding references - using the llncs.cls LaTeX style file) describing the main points of the contribution, which must be submitted together with the poster. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Abstracts of accepted posters will appear in the conference proceedings (two pages+references). The maximum size for a poster is A0 (84.1 cm x 118.9 cm). The position can be extended after the initial 2-year period up to an additional year. We are seeking highly creative and motivated individuals that want to start their research career in immersive visualization at the EAC. Candidates need to have a strong background in interactive computer graphics or related fields, good programming skills, experience with current graphics APIs, and familiarity with visualization tools and/or game engines.
