We encourage the submission of STARs on topics that have not yet been covered in any recent STAR or other survey [1,2]. We welcome submissions that introduce emerging areas of research that are of relevance and interest to visualization research, as well as proposals on more traditional visualization topics. We also welcome contributions from related disciplines and application areas demonstrating contributions to, or benefits from, the area of visualization including, but not limited to, visual computing, computer graphics, human-computer interaction, virtual reality, image processing, computer vision, psychology, geography, chemistry, computational fluid dynamics, data analysis, computational sciences, medicine, biology, economy, social science, etc. All accepted EuroVis STAR reports will be published in the Computer Graphics Forum journal<https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/14678659>. Important Dates Submission of STAR Sketch: October 21, 2022 (two pages, +references, +bibliography) Invitation for full STAR submission: November 18, 2022 Submission of full STAR: February 3, 2023 Review notification: Mar 24, 2023 Second round submission: April 21, 2023 Second review notification: May 5, 2023 Camera-ready deadline: May 19, 2023 All deadlines are at 23:59 GMT on the date indicated. Instructions As part of the acceptance process for Computer Graphics Forum, STARs will undergo a multi-stage review process where authors first submit a 2-page STAR Sketch that they receive preliminary feedback on, followed by a full STAR submission. Submission of the STAR Sketch and full report is mandatory and will be conducted using the Precision Conference System (PCS<https://new.precisionconference.com/submissions/eurovis21c>). For detailed paper preparation and submission instructions please refer to the submission guidelines below. Upon acceptance, we aim to schedule each STAR as an approximately 45 minute presentation (subject to the schedule management of the EuroVis 2023 program). In any circumstance, a STAR presentation will be given a longer time slot than that of a full paper. STAR Sketch Submission A STAR Sketch briefly describes the planned STAR by outlining the topic, discussing its relevance to the visualization community, providing the planned structure and outline of the STAR together with all key references, and short biographies of the authors. The length of a STAR Sketch main text is limited to two pages. To demonstrate the relevant expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR, brief biographies of all authors are required as supplementary material. References and short biographies are considered supplementary pages and are not counted within the two page limit. Authors receive feedback on their sketches to help improve the submission and to inform their decisions whether to progress to the Full STAR submission stage. Full STAR Submission In the next stage, authors are required to submit a full STAR. There is no strict maximum length for full submissions. However, it is unusual for STARs to exceed 20 pages (excluding references). Full STAR submissions will then undergo a single blind, two-stage review process, similar to that of regular papers submitted to Computer Graphics Forum, where 3-4 external experts on the respective topic will evaluate the STAR. This workshop aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers to discuss their AI and VR/AR-related work in the context of learning, education, and serious gaming from both scientific and educational perspectives. The topics of this workshop include, but are not limited to analyses and applications of the following areas: + Simulations and serious games for learning,education and training. + Immersive sports training and exercising. + Intelligent tutoring systems. + AI-based learning performance monitoring and evaluation. + Behavior analysis in the context of training and learning. + AI models of gaze analysis, emotion analysis, and mental states analysis. + Learning/training data visualization and analysis in XR. + Development of new application scenarios and new prospects utilizing AI and/or XR in the context of learning. *SUBMISSIONS* We invite researchers and practitioners to submit their work in the form of a scientific technical paper or an application- or use-case centered paper. *Technical papers* should be 4-8 pages long (excluding references) and describe original research of new ideas, analyses, or scientific studies related to AI/XR and learning. The Research Network “Data Science @ Uni Vienna” invites applications for a doctoral position in the field of Machine Learning with applications for training load management in top-level sports We are looking for candidates with a strong background in statistics, particularly machine learning, good programming skills in R and/or Python and experience in visualization and visual data analysis. Candidates should have a master’s degree preferably in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science or related fields with strong quantitative orientation. We offer a pleasant work environment within a friendly, dynamic and international team, being placed in a city with the world-wide highest living quality. The candidate will work in the project “Artificial Intelligence in Rowing” (AIROW), a highly innovative and interdisciplinary project on the interface between statistics, computer science and sports sciences. This project will bring together methodological competence in data science with current developments in sport sciences as well as technological progress in wearables and medical diagnostics in order to optimize training load of top athletes in endurance sports, such as rowing, swimming, triathlon or running. We will collect and process „big data“ from training and performance processes of individual athletes and will use state-of-the-art machine learning technology in order to quantify the training workload, to predict the effect of training impulses and to optimize training management. In this talk, Stefanie Spidel presents her recent research regarding AI-assisted surgery with a specific focus on visualization for intraoperative assistance. Several examples to optimize the therapy of the individual patient by turning the available data into useful information are given, including context-aware assistance via augmented reality. Depending on the final decisions regarding the conference format, authors will have the possibility to offer either virtual or hybrid tutorials. Nevertheless, we invite tutorial organizers to think creatively about how tutorials can leverage the fact that ISS 2022 will likely be held as a hybrid conference. We encourage tutorials that explore new ways of engaging the ISS community that would not be possible in a traditional offline format. Topics include but are not limited to: * Online tools and technologies * Demonstrating hardware setups and installations, exploring the ins and outs of setting up interactive spaces in our * labs * Live coding and code demonstrations * The latest hardware and platforms (e.g. HoloLens 2, pen & touch, gaze trackers, LIDAR sensors, MaxMSP, P5.js) * Using online tools to scale tutorials (e.g. multiple camera angles for sketching) * Tutorials can run from 90 minutes to a full day (the length is up to the tutorial organizers). Case Studies are the continuation of the ISS application papers in previous years. Case Studies are open to researchers and practitioners (e.g. in industry, in education, etc.) and share compelling stories about HCI practice based on real-world experiences that will be instructive and of interest to other members of the community. Based on the concrete cases of research and design, HCI practitioners and researchers will learn how HCI principles and methods can be applied in practical HCI work. For example, industry members can submit papers to share customer outcomes and iterative improvements over next-best alternatives, or educators might submit papers to share applications of HCI to iterate over prior instructional methods or to share novel approaches to teaching HCI topics. Reviewers will emphasize the connection between the real-world domain and the technology used. This connection may for instance concern a challenging domain, features of a system crucial for the real-world use context, a special design process, practical issues in implementation or deployment, or new business opportunities. Case Studies should describe how a problem was addressed by HCI work carried out. They should describe the challenges experienced and how they were tackled, reflect on the experience, what could have been improved, and describe why the case study is of importance to the HCI community. Case Studies can also inspire HCI researchers to further investigate issues that arise from practical research and design work. Case Studies can illustrate, explore, report, analyze, summarize, challenge, or simply describe practical HCI work carried out to address a problem. Case Studies should focus on topics relevant to the ISS community and can include but are not limited to the following areas: * Architectural concepts and emerging trends * Immersive analytics and data physicalization * Museum and art installation trends * Interaction paradigms around large surfaces (tangibles, pen+touch, etc.) * New and emerging body and space sensing technologies * Overview of social protocols, presence, territoriality, and proxemics * Evaluation methods for surface applications * Multi-touch interaction with mobile devices * Large scale and outdoor interactive spaces (projected interfaces, drones, ...) * Feel, smell, taste, temperature, and splash user interfaces on surfaces * Affective spaces and surfaces * Novel and effective teaching of topics like the above * HCI teaching and education * ... and other exciting topics! Participants can expect the chance to present their dissertation research in a supportive environment and to receive constructive expert and peer feedback on their research topics and possible career paths in both academia and industry. The Symposium aims to support community building by connecting beginning and established researchers. The ideal time to apply to participate in the DS is when some progress has been made in Ph.D. research and a path to completion is planned but could benefit from outside opinions and refinement. All research topics suitable for the ACM ISS Conference and associated workshops are appropriate for the DS. The DS chairs aim to achieve diversity among the student participants, including diversity across research groups and geographical areas.
