Dear colleagues--- Please consider submitting a paper to the Interactive Visual Analytics for Knowledge Integration and Decision Intelligence ( Decision Analytics and Service Science Track, HICSS 56) by June 15, 2022 to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Maui January 3-6, 2023. Interactive Visual Analytics for Knowledge Integration and Decision Intelligence supports human decision making through interaction with data and statistical and machine learning processes, with applications in a broad range of situations where human expertise must be brought to bear on problems characterized by massive datasets and data that are uncertain in fact, relevance, location in space and position in time. In partnership with organizations in defence, health care, and business, visual analytics research methods combining laboratory studies, cognitive ethnography, and field experiments have aided the design of information systems for decision making about injuries to children, multiomic precision health, radiological diagnosis, and VR for conflict zone operations. Submissions are encouraged that focus on the core issues of theory and methods for visualization, analytics, knowledge integration and decision intelligence in organizations. Case studies of applications of these methods to new analytic and decision making tasks in science and technology, public health, business intelligence, financial analysis, social sciences, and other domains are particularly welcome. Submissions may include studies of visual analytics and decision support in the context of an organization (e.g., communication between analysts and policy-makers), perceptual and cognitive aspects of the analytic task, Interactive Machine Learning, and collaborative analysis using visual information systems. Additionally, submissions may include understandable, trustable AI as well as human-guided AI to round out the problem-solving process. Emphasis will be given to submissions that use visual analytics for social change discovery, analysis, communication, and focus on mixed-initiative human/AI analysis. This proposal builds upon our successful HICSS-47, HICSS-48, HICSS-49, HICSS-50, HICSS-51, HICSS-52, HICSS-53 and HICSS-54 +HICSS-55 minitracks on visual analytics for decision support and our earlier minitracks on visual analytics, mobile computing, and digital media at scale. It seeks to define analytical methods and technologies that use interactive visualization to meet challenges posed by data, platforms, and applications for decision making and risk-based decision making: Analysis of multi-perspective knowledge integration, synthesis and engineering in organizations. Use of interactive visualization and visual analytics in digital economies Visual analytics and visualization in "wicked" problem solving in organizations Analysis of datasets of varying size and complexity from archives and real-time streams Collaborative visual analysis and operational coordination within and across organizations. Interactive and visual risk-based decision making Interactive machine learning methods Managing response time of complex analytical tasks Effective deployment and case studies of success from deployed visualization and analytics experiences Visualization and analytics for data-driven policy making and decision support Issues and challenges in evaluation of visual decision making Mixed-initiative analysis methods for decision making Cognitive and social science aspects of visual decision-making environments For HICSS 2023 we extend our focus to multidisciplinary collaboration among researcher from a variety of research perspectives. Authors are encouraged to bring the lens of their own background and expertise to focus on the analytics of the data itself and coordination of multiple levels of analysis, decision-making and operations to the design and evaluation of effective presentations for stakeholders. We invite computational, cognitive, and organizational perspectives on advanced data processing and interactive visualization for analysis and decision-making across a range of human endeavors. We also invite participation from researchers who are looking at scaling issues and multiscale issues, whether these scales refer to the time of decision making, the form-factor and operational constraints of mobile devices, the number of decision makers or the more traditional notion of multiscale simulation and real-world scales of data. We are particularly interested in approaches that combine computational and interactive analytics in "mixed initiative" or Interactive Machine Learning systems, decision support in the context of an organization (e.g. communication between analysts and policy-makers), perceptual and cognitive aspects of the analytic task, and collaborative analysis using visual information systems. DCIC 2022 A multidisciplinary conference on Digital Creativity, Industry and Culture (DCIC 2022) DCIC 2022 is a forum for researchers and practitioners to share insights on the impact of interactive, immersive and artificially intelligent technologies on creative practices and the industries, societies and cultures through which they emerge. DCIC aims to create a sense of shared multi-disciplinary identity and foster new interdisciplinary links, by combining three interconnected perspectives: - technology-driven creative practices and technology advancements driven by creative practices - working practices and economic development in the creative and cultural industries - digital culture and society Through DCIC, we seek to bring together researchers from a variety of disciplines across STEM, arts and humanities, and the social sciences. We invite proposals for short presentations that expose thought-provoking aspects concerning digital creativity, industry and culture. These include but are not limited to: - new user experiences - new forms of content and artistic expression - new forms of mediated interaction beyond entertainment audience insights - new authoring tools, creative processes and production workflows - content distribution architectures and systems - virtual and real-time production, approaches and working practices - industry responses to new immersive technologies and media - skills gaps and training needs - EDI implications in the creation, distribution and consumption of digital media - politics, inequalities and power relations of technology innovations and digitalisation - interactive and immersive technologies in relation to activism and political discourse - digital technologies and well-being - utopic and dystopic futurisms for a digitally mediated world. The conference format has been designed to maximise the potential for crossing disciplinary boundaries and encouraging multi-disciplinary connections and debates. Each conference session will be curated in such a way as to include related complementary contributions from each of the three perspectives mentioned above as well as a fair distribution of topics. DCIC expects a significant participation from industry partners, facilitated through the University of York’s rich network of collaborators maintained through the sponsoring bodies listed further below. It will thus be a platform for conversations and debates between academic research and industry R&D and practice. Format: - Attendance is free. - The conference will take place in-person at the University of York. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, or software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for about 30 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing, as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. GD 2022 will be held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, on September 13-16, 2022, with a reception on the evening of September 13. A pre-conference PhD school is planned for September 12-13, 2022. While we hope that a physical conference will be possible, details of the exact format of the venue (onsite, online, hybrid) will be announced before the submission deadline. Regardless of the format, we are committed to offering remote participation for both presenters and the audience. To promote a balanced coverage of the field, GD has two distinct tracks, and papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Regular papers must be submitted explicitly to one of the two tracks. However, all program committee members may review papers from either track. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. The range of topics for this track includes (but is not limited to): * Design and analysis of graph drawing algorithms * Geometric and topological graph theory * Computational topology of graphs on surfaces * Geometric network design and optimization * Geometric computing Track 2: Experimental, applied, and network visualization aspects -------------------------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to the practical aspects of graph drawing, such as the development and evaluation of network visualization algorithms, systems, and interfaces in different application areas. Short papers ------------ In addition to the above two tracks, there will be a separate category for short papers, describing theoretical or applied contributions of shorter length. Papers in this category will be assigned a shorter time for presentation during the conference. Submission format ----------------- All submissions must be formatted using the appropriate LaTeX style file, either gd-llncs.cls<https://graphdrawing.github.io/gd2022/assets/template/gd-llncs.cls> for long papers or gd-llncs-short.cls<https://graphdrawing.github.io/gd2022/assets/template/gd-llncs-short.cls> for short papers; these are derived from the style file used for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. To promote inclusion of figures in the submitted papers, submissions will have a strict number of lines limit. Regular papers must have at most 400 lines and at most 14 pages (excluding references). Short papers must have at most 225 lines and at most 7 pages (excluding references). When counting the lines, the following sections should be excluded: title, authors block, keywords, references. For figures, tables, and algorithm pseudo-code, only the lines of the main caption should be counted. Lines in all the rest of the paper should be counted, including the abstract. The claims of the paper should be fully substantiated. If this information does not fit within the line/page limits, the authors should include it in a clearly marked appendix, whose length is not constrained and which the reviewers may read at their own discretion. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to 2 pages in the LNCS style) that must be submitted together with the poster itself. PUBLICATION: PROCEEDINGS AND SPECIAL ISSUES ----------------------- All accepted papers (including the two-page poster abstracts) will appear in the conference proceedings, published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. The LNCS proceedings will be made freely accessible to the GD community upon publication and openly accessible to anyone after four years. Authors will be required to submit their accepted papers to the arXiv repository at the same time as submitting their camera-ready versions, in order to provide immediate and unrestricted open access to them. The self-archived arXiv papers shall consist of the LNCS proceedings version (identical, except for possibly changed references to the appendix resp. the arXiv version) plus an optional clearly marked appendix. This appendix could contain a long version of the entire paper or proofs that have been omitted from the main text. Subsequent submissions of revised versions of the paper to the arXiv (known as arXiv "replacements") are allowed. Upon submission of the camera-ready version of an accepted paper, the authors will be required to specify the arXiv identifier associated with the paper for inclusion in a conference index, which will be also published in the arXiv repository. Failure to comply with these guidelines will impede the publication of the paper. Each paper or poster must be presented at the conference by an author (barring unforeseen circumstances), otherwise the paper will not be included in the proceedings. Should any visa/travel restriction prevent an author from attending the conference and presenting a paper, he/she will be given ways to participate and give the talk via electronic means. Selected papers from both tracks will be invited for submission to a special issue of the Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications (JGAA). The authors of two selected papers in Track 2 will be invited to submit a substantially extended and enhanced version of their work to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). InfraVis (https://infravis.se) is a national research infrastructure in support of scientific advancement through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. The goals of InfraVis are to significantly improve data analysis support, address new challenges involving large and complex data and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to high-end visualization laboratories. Users of InfraVis will be offered assistance through a national helpdesk as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. This year’s edition focuses on * Visualization Research in the Wild and the roles guidelines play in it * Implementing an actionable framework around creating, curating, and applying guidelines for the wider visualization and non-visualization community. Submit your work and ideas as either a short paper, long paper, or a guideline report discussing a guideline, its empirical evidence, application, and limitations. Become part of a vibrant half-day workshop that will bring together an exciting program with papers and discussions on the future of guidelines in visualization. This workshop also features an open call for being part of the program committee (PC) to provide an opportunity to advocate for guidelines in a broad range of topics. Website: https://visguides-workshop.github.io/ Topics and Scope The IEEE VIS VisGuides workshop is a forum for constructive discussions around guidelines in visualization and how the visualization researchers and creators disseminate and discuss their designs. The understanding and operationalization of guidelines is important not only for academics, but also for practitioners alike, who are tasked to make design trade-offs, problem-solving, and justify decisions. Moreover, guidelines are essential for teaching and learning about visualization. Questions this workshop wants to discuss include: * What visualization guidelines exist and how do we (as a scientific community) collect and disseminate them? * How do we apply and discuss guidelines in daily-work practice, in design, in advising, and in teaching? * What is the role of visualization knowledge and guidelines in the wild, i.e., outside the scientific community? * How to scrutinize empirical knowledge and make a discussion around guidelines public? * What are types of guidelines, guidance, and how do we formalize visualization knowledge? * How can we systematize, rank and categorize guidelines in the wild? Goals * Illustrating the use of best practices and guidelines in the wild as seen from the VIS community and practitioners, through discussions among the presenters and the audience. Collecting, reflecting and discussing a survey of well-known guidelines from the presenters and the audience through interactive activities, examples, and submissions * Constructing an open and democratic discussion about principles, guidelines, recommendations, based on the presented evidence (including examples of their uses and misuses), critique (including revision and improvement) and conditioning (i.e., education, training, and deployment) compiling the lessons learned from the usage of those guidelines * Discussing ideas and proposals of feasible approaches towards the formalization of visualization guidelines, with an impact beyond the scientific visualization community. This is an important point as more and more visualization designs are created outside the scientific community. The visualization community must reinforce the efforts to publicize their study results * To raise questions about the ethical, practical, and technical implications of establishing guidelines for visualization. Cheers, Matt --------------------- Hi there, I am a masters student from the Australian National University (ANU) conducting a research project: Multi-View Web Interfaces in Augmented Reality. This project is to investigate informational web page presentation in augmented reality (AR), which involves using a virtual reality (VR) application to simulate different physical environments or activities and AR information contents. This study aims to elicit preferred layouts of arranging AR content. Participants will be asked to interact with the self-guided VR application and fill in an online survey to answer questions about their interaction experience. We are looking for participants who are: * Aged over 18 years old; * Can communicate in English; * Have access to an Oculus Quest or Quest 2 device. The study is designed to be self-guided so you can try our app with your own Quest device and answer survey questions by yourself remotely. Dear InfoVis Community, We invite participants to submit work in progress and preliminary results, previously published work from other venues or visualization challenges to be presented as a poster and/or interactive demo. Posters submitted for this May 19th deadline may not get a poster slot during the conference. Authors are required to submit a short abstract (250 words) and a supporting figure by May 19, 2022. Abstracts should include a concise description of an idea, work in progress, preliminary results, visualization challenges, or previously published work presented at other venues that is also relevant to the BioVis community.
