The submission deadline for the VISAP Arts Program (VISAP) 2022 is extended to June 9, 2022. This gives you another week to finalize your submission(s)! The VIS Arts Program (VISAP) is a mini-conference and exhibition where visualization researchers, designers, and (media) artists come together to showcase and discuss works at the intersection of data visualization, art, and design. It is the biggest associated event in the IEEE VIS conference, and its main goal is to foster new thinking, discussion, and collaboration across and between fields of research and practice. The theme for VISAP’22 is “mingling spaces.” For 10 years the VIS Arts Program, and before this, the VIS Arts Show, have represented a mingling space, a space “to bring or mix together or with something else, usually without fundamental loss of identity” [Merriam-Webster]. VISAP’22 will take place in a hybrid format, and we will therefore experiment with different forms of mingling, attempting to bridge and mix not only disciplines, methodologies, and techniques but also the virtual and the physical, the immaterial and the material; people and artifacts online and offline, remote and on-site. In line with this experiment, we invite submissions that explore, re-interpret, speculate and reflect on the idea of mingling spaces. VISAP welcomes a wide range of submissions, including interactive artworks, design projects, novel visualization tools and applications, art-science or artist-in-lab projects, critical interpretations and evaluations of data visualizations, and philosophical meditations on the intersections between art and research. Dear colleagues--- Please consider submitting a paper to the Interactive Visual Analytics for Knowledge Integration and Decision Intelligence ( Decision Analytics and Service Science Track, HICSS 56) by June 15, 2022 to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Maui January 3-6, 2023. Interactive Visual Analytics for Knowledge Integration and Decision Intelligence supports human decision making through interaction with data and statistical and machine learning processes, with applications in a broad range of situations where human expertise must be brought to bear on problems characterized by massive datasets and data that are uncertain in fact, relevance, location in space and position in time. In partnership with organizations in defence, health care, and business, visual analytics research methods combining laboratory studies, cognitive ethnography, and field experiments have aided the design of information systems for decision making about injuries to children, multiomic precision health, radiological diagnosis, and VR for conflict zone operations. Submissions are encouraged that focus on the core issues of theory and methods for visualization, analytics, knowledge integration and decision intelligence in organizations. Case studies of applications of these methods to new analytic and decision making tasks in science and technology, public health, business intelligence, financial analysis, social sciences, and other domains are particularly welcome. Submissions may include studies of visual analytics and decision support in the context of an organization (e.g., communication between analysts and policy-makers), perceptual and cognitive aspects of the analytic task, Interactive Machine Learning, and collaborative analysis using visual information systems. Additionally, submissions may include understandable, trustable AI as well as human-guided AI to round out the problem-solving process. Emphasis will be given to submissions that use visual analytics for social change discovery, analysis, communication, and focus on mixed-initiative human/AI analysis. This proposal builds upon our successful HICSS-47, HICSS-48, HICSS-49, HICSS-50, HICSS-51, HICSS-52, HICSS-53 and HICSS-54 +HICSS-55 minitracks on visual analytics for decision support and our earlier minitracks on visual analytics, mobile computing, and digital media at scale. It seeks to define analytical methods and technologies that use interactive visualization to meet challenges posed by data, platforms, and applications for decision making and risk-based decision making: Analysis of multi-perspective knowledge integration, synthesis and engineering in organizations. Use of interactive visualization and visual analytics in digital economies Visual analytics and visualization in "wicked" problem solving in organizations Analysis of datasets of varying size and complexity from archives and real-time streams Collaborative visual analysis and operational coordination within and across organizations. Interactive and visual risk-based decision making Interactive machine learning methods Managing response time of complex analytical tasks Effective deployment and case studies of success from deployed visualization and analytics experiences Visualization and analytics for data-driven policy making and decision support Issues and challenges in evaluation of visual decision making Mixed-initiative analysis methods for decision making Cognitive and social science aspects of visual decision-making environments For HICSS 2023 we extend our focus to multidisciplinary collaboration among researcher from a variety of research perspectives. Authors are encouraged to bring the lens of their own background and expertise to focus on the analytics of the data itself and coordination of multiple levels of analysis, decision-making and operations to the design and evaluation of effective presentations for stakeholders. We invite computational, cognitive, and organizational perspectives on advanced data processing and interactive visualization for analysis and decision-making across a range of human endeavors. We also invite participation from researchers who are looking at scaling issues and multiscale issues, whether these scales refer to the time of decision making, the form-factor and operational constraints of mobile devices, the number of decision makers or the more traditional notion of multiscale simulation and real-world scales of data. DCIC 2022 A multidisciplinary conference on Digital Creativity, Industry and Culture (DCIC 2022) DCIC 2022 is a forum for researchers and practitioners to share insights on the impact of interactive, immersive and artificially intelligent technologies on creative practices and the industries, societies and cultures through which they emerge. DCIC aims to create a sense of shared multi-disciplinary identity and foster new interdisciplinary links, by combining three interconnected perspectives: - technology-driven creative practices and technology advancements driven by creative practices - working practices and economic development in the creative and cultural industries - digital culture and society Through DCIC, we seek to bring together researchers from a variety of disciplines across STEM, arts and humanities, and the social sciences. We invite proposals for short presentations that expose thought-provoking aspects concerning digital creativity, industry and culture. These include but are not limited to: - new user experiences - new forms of content and artistic expression - new forms of mediated interaction beyond entertainment audience insights - new authoring tools, creative processes and production workflows - content distribution architectures and systems - virtual and real-time production, approaches and working practices - industry responses to new immersive technologies and media - skills gaps and training needs - EDI implications in the creation, distribution and consumption of digital media - politics, inequalities and power relations of technology innovations and digitalisation - interactive and immersive technologies in relation to activism and political discourse - digital technologies and well-being - utopic and dystopic futurisms for a digitally mediated world. The conference format has been designed to maximise the potential for crossing disciplinary boundaries and encouraging multi-disciplinary connections and debates. Each conference session will be curated in such a way as to include related complementary contributions from each of the three perspectives mentioned above as well as a fair distribution of topics. DCIC expects a significant participation from industry partners, facilitated through the University of York’s rich network of collaborators maintained through the sponsoring bodies listed further below. Graph Drawing and Network Visualization are motivated by applications where it is crucial to visually analyze and interact with relational datasets. Examples of such application areas include data science, social sciences, web computing, information systems, biology, geography, business intelligence, information security, or software engineering. GD has been the main annual event in this area for about 30 years. Its focus is on combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of graph drawing, as well as the design of network visualization systems and interfaces. Researchers and practitioners working on any aspects of graph drawing and network visualization are invited to contribute papers and posters and to participate in the symposium and the graph drawing contest. GD 2022 will be held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, on September 13-16, 2022, with a reception on the evening of September 13. A pre-conference PhD school is planned for September 12-13, 2022. While we hope that a physical conference will be possible, details of the exact format of the venue (onsite, online, hybrid) will be announced before the submission deadline. To promote a balanced coverage of the field, GD has two distinct tracks, and papers submitted to one track will not compete with papers submitted to the other track. Track 1: Combinatorial and algorithmic aspects ---------------------------------------------- This track is mainly devoted to fundamental graph drawing advances, such as combinatorial aspects and algorithm design. Submission format ----------------- All submissions must be formatted using the appropriate LaTeX style file, either gd-llncs.cls<https://graphdrawing.github.io/gd2022/assets/template/gd-llncs.cls> for long papers or gd-llncs-short.cls<https://graphdrawing.github.io/gd2022/assets/template/gd-llncs-short.cls> for short papers; these are derived from the style file used for the conference series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) provided by Springer. The default margins and fonts must not be modified; in particular, the use of packages such as times.sty is not allowed. Submissions that do not comply with this format risk rejection without consideration of their merits. To promote inclusion of figures in the submitted papers, submissions will have a strict number of lines limit. Regular papers must have at most 400 lines and at most 14 pages (excluding references). Short papers must have at most 225 lines and at most 7 pages (excluding references). When counting the lines, the following sections should be excluded: title, authors block, keywords, references. The poster session will provide a forum for the communication of late-breaking research results (which may also appear elsewhere) to the GD community. Authors of posters should prepare an abstract (up to 2 pages in the LNCS style) that must be submitted together with the poster itself. Details about the traditional Graph Drawing Contest held at the conference are provided on the conference web site https://graphdrawing.github.io/gd2022/pages/contest/ LIGHTWEIGHT DOUBLE-BLIND REVIEW PROCESS -------------------------------- This year, for the first time in the GD conference, the review process will be handled in a “lightweight double-blind mode”. This means that authors are not allowed to reveal their identity in the paper that they submit to GD'22, but are free to disseminate draft versions of the paper prior to the conference and to give talks on the topic as they normally would. In particular, the submitted paper should not contain authors' names, affiliations, and email addresses. References to their own related work are allowed, as long as the supporting text maintains anonymity (e.g., using sentences in the third person, anonymising references). Members of the Program Committee will not have the identity of the authors of any paper revealed to them during the entire review process. To handle conflicts of interest effectively, authors will be offered the opportunity to declare conflict of interest with relevant PC members when they submit their paper. PUBLICATION: PROCEEDINGS AND SPECIAL ISSUES ----------------------- All accepted papers (including the two-page poster abstracts) will appear in the conference proceedings, published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. The LNCS proceedings will be made freely accessible to the GD community upon publication and openly accessible to anyone after four years. Authors will be required to submit their accepted papers to the arXiv repository at the same time as submitting their camera-ready versions, in order to provide immediate and unrestricted open access to them. The self-archived arXiv papers shall consist of the LNCS proceedings version (identical, except for possibly changed references to the appendix resp. the arXiv version) plus an optional clearly marked appendix. This appendix could contain a long version of the entire paper or proofs that have been omitted from the main text. Subsequent submissions of revised versions of the paper to the arXiv (known as arXiv "replacements") are allowed. Upon submission of the camera-ready version of an accepted paper, the authors will be required to specify the arXiv identifier associated with the paper for inclusion in a conference index, which will be also published in the arXiv repository. Failure to comply with these guidelines will impede the publication of the paper. Each paper or poster must be presented at the conference by an author (barring unforeseen circumstances), otherwise the paper will not be included in the proceedings. Should any visa/travel restriction prevent an author from attending the conference and presenting a paper, he/she will be given ways to participate and give the talk via electronic means. Selected papers from both tracks will be invited for submission to a special issue of the Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications (JGAA). The authors of two selected papers in Track 2 will be invited to submit a substantially extended and enhanced version of their work to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). Invitations to the special issues will be sent at most two weeks after the conference. A TVCG papers session at the Graph Drawing conference will also feature regular TVCG papers. The advertised position (reference number: 2022/494-2.2.1) will be affiliated to the information visualization research group (ISOVIS) led by Professor Andreas Kerren (see http://cs.lnu.se/isovis/) The group is part of the national research infrastructure InfraVis and is with this advertisement recruiting a research engineer in information visualization for InfraVis. InfraVis (https://infravis.se) is a national research infrastructure in support of scientific advancement through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. The goals of InfraVis are to significantly improve data analysis support, address new challenges involving large and complex data and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to high-end visualization laboratories. Users of InfraVis will be offered assistance through a national helpdesk as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. InfraVis will also provide software solutions based on development in connected research groups, curation of international software and best practice, and user training in the form of courses, seminars, and on-line documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for support and development in the visualization of data. The general tasks include advanced user support, selection of suitable software, development of visualization tools, and training of user groups from many different research areas.
